Why did you underline the words? Do you want to imply that he still is a cheater, but we don´t know it yet? Why do you add the word "hard"? Is there a "soft" evidence accusing yumpak? A high win streak is not a piece of evidence. Okay, since we're playing that game.... Why did you automatically assume the worst possible connotation from my underlined words? Why not consider other possibilities that don't immediately villify administrators, or possibly Yumpak? Why are you immediately looking for a way to negatively cast my statement? Is there a reason or problem you have here? Do you want to imply that I or the administrative team has an ulterior motive? A suspicious attitude is not a piece of evidence. Weee! Was that fun for you? The reason for the underlined section was to clarify that hard evidence is what is required to make "conviction" against another player. Many accusations were handed out towards that player, but none of them supplied evidence which was either convincing or significant. Thus: no hard evidence.Any other interpretive questions? First, I was writing an answer to all your questions until I realized that this would lead to a rather useless sparring match - especially since we both know what I was assuming. But, my post was neither "automatically" nor "immediately" - I don´t have inborn anti-Fried-reflexes. And I don´t accuse the admin team of having ulterior motives. The admin team cleared Yumpak of the cheating accusations.

No hard evidence in the form of save games or any other concrete, demonstrable prove was shown to exist tying Yumpak to any form of cheating or hacking behaviors, and as such, he has been released from his suspension after the five days which have already passed, and is now free to play as before. Why did you underline the words? Do you want to imply that he still is a cheater, but we don´t know it yet? Why do you add the word "hard"? Is there a "soft" evidence accusing yumpak? A high win streak is not a piece of evidence.

It sounds like a cheat to me, unfortunately.
1st: It is very likely to die, or at least get choked terribly without producing anything in the first 6 turns. 2nd: Good players don´t need to cheat. The good player wouldn´t settle on the iron, he´d rather use the bonus shields and settle next to it. 3rd: He needed to pop bronce and iron working. And he doesn´t have a scout, so it is very, very unlikely. And even then, would you move around several turns with your first settler just hoping to find an iron "somewhere"?
The only other thing I could imagine would be that he recognized this map from the game before - that weird map in cache thing.

I might be mistaken, but Horizon´s email-address reminds me of someone.

Hmm, related to the vote: i didnt have problems before and I dont have them now, but since others seem to have more problems it´s getting more difficult for me, too.
I tried an hour to get a game today. Once we got to the 1st turn and the host dropped. Mostly the games didnt get started because there were too few players. Then I hosted one game by myself by IP. First, I had to ask someone to leave because he was the only one in the game and obviously blocked other players. So the bad-peer-problem really exists. Literally the second I could make him leave another player joined. And then so on and on until we were 6. The game was running without any problem until the end. When we were 6 I asked the "bad peer" to join up, i wanted to try if it works this way, but he didnt enter. I dont know though if it wasnt possible for him or if he didnt try at all. The question then is: what makes you a bad peer? Even IP-ing doesn´t solve it.
Edit: No, that one vote was not coming from SPM, I bet it was umbra. Just look at the myleague ladder main page and you can realize SPM´s objectivity.

Levi points to the right spot: If we want the community to grow we need to put more effort into it. At the moment "we" only do what we have done on c3c for 2 years. We more or less maintain the status quo. I have to admit I wasn´t here in the ptw-days, but I guess the very small core group of players back then just did a little "more"... because they wanted the community to grow. I remember the times when there were tourneys outside from the CCC. Advertisement for the ladder was just stronger, yes, the kind of support Levi gave. At the moment, the ladder is only barely visible in the lobby. The most obvious sign for it is a clan tag. Ladder games are only a marginal minority - but that shows that the players are THERE, more than ever with civ3. The big problem is that civ3MP and civ4MP are very different, veteran players will disappear in any case (or already have), and if they aren´t replaced by the same number of new names there will be less players at the end. That´s why just going on as ever doesn´t help.

I think Take2 should sponsor a few tourneys with good prizes.
And CIV could have a game mode "quicker" than quick, not in relation to research speed, but to unit production.

it seems to me you dont build enough cottages - or maybe you build them but you don´t let your citizens work on them. I would also suggest going for fishing and work on coast/lake tiles.
Btw, nice trick to research really well: go for great scientists and build academies.

Pitboss is like a "real time pbem". Every 12 (?) hours one turn passes. During this time you have to make your turn (similar to a democracy game, where you get a punishment if you dont finish your turn within the timeframe). One server is needed to host the game as long as possible.

I think it´s a great option, it gives enough reward for successful attacks to catch up to the builders that could develop freely. I wish it would become the standard in our games, and I guess it hasn´t happened yet just because it´s a mostly unknown feature.
There is just one thing I am not sure about: You can get your cities back and they won´t count for elimination anymore... but does this also happen if one of my teammates takes that city back? Or would he at least be able to trade that city to me?

With the financial trait I usually build my cottages at rivers and get 3 coins from the very beginning - excellent for a quick tech boost in a mp game.
Btw, for me, the traits help me to "deconstruct" psychological barriers...i.e. I hardly built forges because they seem to be so expensive without the industrial trait. The financial trait makes me use the cottages, whereas they look pretty useless if they´d only yield 1 coin. Or the philosophical trait makes me go for GP more than I´d do in a normal game. Maybe Organized is considered weak because its effects arent that obvious. (Still, I think its a bit weak - I voted maybe.)

Checked the coding and found the problem: I repeat you don't exist, at least not totally. You happen to be stuck in between to classes atm. It´s like in that movie "Ghost" You are not gone completely yet, you still have got something to do here...

The Great Plains map is a bit tricky. If you start in the middle you DO have a lot of cows, but you will most probably not have copper.

I would also like to see people using the other maps for ancient starts, especially wheel, ring and hub. You can change the width of the landbridges and block incoming chariot rushes with fortified archers (which becomes very easy when you choose 1-tile landbridges and fortify on hills). Have at least a look at them and try them in SP first. Some of them are bigger than others, for example wheel on small is really big.

In an interview some time this year Sid Meier said something about 2 projects he is involved in personally. One will see the light of day in 2006, the other one 2007. Take2 is so keen on stating that Sid Meier is still with them, I guess these 2 projects will be big cash cows - maybe a Colonization 2, or a new Alpha Centauri...

By clicking on "game name" in the game list you can sort the games alphabetically. So maybe we could have an easily visible block of games by calling them "Ladder game (host, settings etc...)"
