hey we won EC in '88 lol not same as winnin the world cup though Hmm, so I know what to expect from the World Cup 2006, now that GC has won the CCC! ;D. And thx for the very fair competition. All in all it seemed to be a very flawless tourney. I had serious doubts in the stability of the game during the Ironman, but it was running well until the end. Thx to the TD´s for making the tourney run without GS. See ya next month! (or next week, not sure..)

Guessing the winner of the CCC is boring...how about guessing the members of Fried´s clan, hehe....
My bets are on: Cobra, Vermillion, Onan, Fried, SRay, Craigbob

I believe that the 100 turns for the future event are too much. 80-90 would be good. But then, most games will be decided by kills anyway because of the 2 city elim. However, a 100 turn future game to the end will last about 4-5 hours. (A GC test game took 2 hours for the first 50 turns)
The tiny map for 1vs1 is good imo. You dont necessarily start at the opposite sides of the map - and you can cross the edges of the map anyway. But the 100 turns here are much too few I believe.

I remember that when I joined the ladder CCC V had just happened and when I got more involved into GC and the CCC it was very easy to differenciate between the CCC´s simply because there weren´t that many and every single one was somehow special. Now today I might think about something that happened in a CCC: Was that CCC XIX? No! It was CCC XXI! I would really prefer to start counting from 1 on again - especially since there will be another c3c CCC this month where we can continue to count in the old way.

How about a future 1vs1 instead of an ancient? Or how about same civs for everyone?

UserName: GCReptile on the ladder - Reptile is the name without the clantag NickNames: Rep, Repticide, Regicide Rep, Gossip Rep Gender: M Birthdate: 25.08.1982 EmailAddress: alexander_schulz82@yahoo.de HomeTown: Cologne, raised in Hückelhoven TimeZone: MEZ Location: Cologne Occupation: Student Usually Online When: after the courses, will also have late nite sessions at the weekend Favorite Civ: all financial ones, especially Mali Game Style (dagger, sledge, castle, etc): hehe, do these categories still fit? Castle-like though atm, the ladder environment will make me become more aggressive Game Strengths: Tech Race, mean kills with a few units Game Weaknesses: developing a great invasion plan Ideal game Length: it really depends on the day Preferred Game Options: I think I will lean to longer games, though quick ladder fights also have their charm Hobbies Besides Civ: Theatre, Music, Reading/Writing FavoriteMovie: ...still Aliens Favorite Music to Civ By: atm, its Pink Floyd/Led Zeppelin/ the recent Gorillaz Album FavoriteSportsTeam: the GC-Clan (e-sports, :cough:) When playing CIV4, I also: laugh at my enemies Most Memorable Win: i keep that space free for a victory that deserves it Most Memorable Loss: atm, getting killed by 62 keshiks by Unimatrix I second Blu´s, err Random´s remarks. CIV is a game that you cant swallow quickly. It wants to be chewed and digested (omg get this voice out of my head!). If people could play civ3 mp for 3 years, this one might even see the next decade.

No ressources vs horse archers IS a big problem. If feudalism is too far away, maybe going for construction is a good alternative. Catapults are a strength 5 unit of their own and get this big bonus against horse archers. Catapults will also do well against axemen, because one needs combat II first to promote axemen with a bonus against catapults, whereas catapults only need combat I to get the melee bonus. However, one needs to "steal" a few turns to get catapults in time, i.e. use archers to prevent the enemy from connecting the ressources. If I calculated correctly, the cheapest way to construction costs 1040 beakers - whereas the way to feudalism takes 1310 beakers. I like Mali a lot to eliminate the danger of a chariot rush. Aztecs are good, too, if one knows that he is a good builder. And inca are the best civ to steal some turns.
Edit: I just realized that catapults don´t get a bonus against horse archers....it´s the other way round, lol.

People need to be aware that "pangaea" is not the only way to go (in fact it´s rather a no-go for mp). When you get away from this map several other choices suddenly appear . Btw, I won the game against cruise by the power of a woodsman II warrior that took his empty 2nd city. It was needed though, because Cruise had copper 2 tiles away from his capital and I had neither bronce nor iron - my 2nd city was placed right on horses though.

I was a bit late with experiencing the new patch but now I know that I like it. It seems they made the interface a little faster, which was one of the really needed points for mp. Finally the game speed is back to where it was before 1.52... - I lost a lot of motivation to play with that patch and kept on asking myself how they could do it...a patch that, by mistake, changes the pace of the game... So now the game is less rng-luck dependant or like chess, and it nicely evens out the forest chop nerfing, which is a good thing, too! People now complain about the ressources being more important, well before the patch it was even more important to have enough forest.

originally the game came out and there were so many technical issues to overcome (new hardware/software/drivers for the player's comps) and many comps just wouldn't work. Then they came out with a patch that fixed a great deal of that, enabling quite a few people to play (there were still a few others with overall game usage issues). In December, they came out with the second patch (1.52, the current one) and that's when all the connectivity issues began. At first, it was blamed on individuals, then gamespy and finally they realized that when they made the game lobby more playable (view/chat lobby from staging areas, buddy lists, private chat, etc) that they HAD created the rarely seen before "peer issues." It was fun. now it's tiresome and weary. I don't even care what kind of game I play anymore, ladder, open, etc - I just connect where I can when I can. I'm apparently not a "bad peer" as people have no problem connecting after I join a game. that SINGLE issue should have been fixed before the did anything else - but it wasn't (it's in a pending patch and has been since............. darn, I forget) Will it work? WE DON'T KNOW BECAUSE THEY WON'T RELEASE IT TO THE PUBLIC SO THAT IT CAN BE USED IN A COMPUTER/NETWORK HEAVY ENVIRONMENT! Now that you describe it that way, maybe the mute function is related to the connection issues? Btw, it´s not true, as you posted before, that Take 2 did no testing at all. They also had their testers, so-called in-house testers. There are many factors that lead to this unsatisfying situation. Firaxis and Take 2 both play a part.

Interestingly, another major difference between C3P and C4P's communities is that the key members, however bad it got, spent their time trying to find ways around the problems the game presented and pumped the game up. Here, we have high-profile members who do absolutely nothing but run the game down. Anyone could take the good or the bad and run with it; here, they're making a specific choice to take the bad. You want a real community? Do your own part. I know for a fact that I've heard more than once: "All they do is bitch and moan and complain about everything. No matter what's done, or what's said, they find the most negative way to talk about it. Who wants to post on a board like that?" Don't hand me that "Well, it's just SO horrible and there's nothing good going on, and I just can't STAND playing this way." You obviously CAN stand it. You ARE playing. You still haven't left yet, despite claiming you would a dozen times. Obviously, then, it's not QUITE as bad as you seem to claim. The problems we're having now are nothing compared to what C3P had to deal with, and you're complaining ten times as much. Building a community is just that - about building a community. It doesn't work when all you try to do is tear it down. Lol, funny, I just wanted to write something like this over at the c3p-boards in response to Donkey´s thread. Only a sudden internet disconnection prevented me from posting that at the exactly same time as Fried. The difference is just so obvious. Over at c3p the players always find new ways to enjoy their favorite game while people here have got nothing better to do than writing it off. Not finding enough interest in my own clan for this game I kinda hoped that the MUD-people would lay the foundation for a new community - like people such as Zaxxon/Cton, Donkey, cmdishr, Lastride etc... over at c3p.

Well, a big difference (if not THE difference) between the Firaxis model and the Blizzard model is the money. You have to pay every month to play. You and the company seal a contract - but you can quit it whenever you like. It forces the company to provide support. Blizzard knows that if they ever lower their standards they will lose a lot of customers. Of course, you need to know if it´s really worth it. So far, I couldn´t complain. In the 1 year that WoW is out there have been 10 big patches, patches 11-13 are already announced. They slightly correct some things and also add new content. On the other hand, Blizzard also knows how to milk the cash-cow. The XP has been announced for a while now, it won´t be for free (inspite of the monthly fee). And it won´t be the only XP.
