I had a odd problem when I installed Warlords that I thought I'd share.
Inserted CD, Autorun ran but then flashed a screen and ... nothing.
Tried it a couple of times. Ran something called Diag on the CD but it did nothing but put a folder on my desktop.
Anyways ran the setup.exe and warlords installed succesfully. Odd though that autorun did squat. Note I use the /ALTROOT parm to set the saves to my E drive
I also setup a separate Warlords and Civ4 folder there as there seems to be some incompatiblity when they try to share the same directory.
I also added the fix for pitboss and that seems to be successful too.

Cautionary note
Some players are getting new PCs and installing CIV4 right away. Everyone is wonderful. But they go back and install C3C again to finish off epics and PBEM games and they are unable to play C3C - it locks up.
The solution it appears and I have no reason why ... is that you must install C3C prior to CIV4
This is one solution to the problem I suggesed to someone had over in CIVFANATICS and the resolution worked. I am posting here incase someone else has the same issue.
I'm sure you have done everything you can but here are some suggestions that I would do in your shoes. 1) uninstall civ3, ptw, conquests and civ4 2) remove registry entries HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Infogrames Interactive and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Infogrames HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BreakAway Games HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games 3) remove temp files and any folders left over 4) reboot 5) reinstall civ3 and conquests (it contains PTW) and then apply the full 122 patch for conquests 6) reboot See if conquests will play 7) if it does reinstall civ4 I recently installed CIV4 after reinstalling CIV3/PTW/Conquests on my new machine. They will run fine.

I would suggest everyone writes a letter of complaint to
usa@take2support.com and then print it and mail to
Firaxis Games 11350 McCormick Road Executive Plaza III; Suite 1100 Hunt Valley, MD 21031
There's nothing like a bag of mail to get people's attention.
You may think it is worthless but lets show them that the MP community maybe small but they are vocal.

Related to piracy ... I've noticed with the new patch that something called Cleanup ~e5.0001.html launched each time with warlords. A google revealed ... www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/~e5.0001.htmlSo it seems there is some anti-piracy code running now that I don't recall seeing before. Personally, having worked for a software co. that's a good thing. Pirated code puts people out of work. Anyone not purchasing a proper license is a thief. The ladder should not be associated with tolerating piracy in any form.

FP did more to help the game than you realize ... maybe not BTS but MP would not be as good as it is without his help. Did Friedrich hate losing ? Oh yeah ... and yes he had pride but But really this is all ancient history ... forgettaboutit

Besides all the connection, gamespy bugs which will never change ... I'd like to see something entirely different ...
Remove the ability to see into cities and on ships what units are contained within those squares ... should require use of spys ... make spys easier and much earlier to obtain. Espionage was a common tactic even in the ancient world.

Farewell SPM ... thanks for stepping into the vacuum and keeping the ladder concept alive and making it better.
We haven't always seen eye to eye on things but those that can differ and remain friends and work together are better for it both.
I know how difficult it can be and despite all that happened over the past several years you carried on and stepped down with grace. You showed me how it is done. Good Luck in your career and a sincere thank you.

Hmmmm not correct CS. It's the IP of the person or the ISP in some cases. What gets confusing is when people have accounts with MSN, AOL and a few others that don't have a unique id. But most do have unique IP addresses. I don't recall anything being the cases server unless the tracking has changed since I was admin.
Listen CS, you asked for suggestions ... I'm only responded. I think you doth protest too much. Crawling under my rock.

Do you really want to fix non reports ?
As a few other veterans have commented... the only way is to return to an "invite only" ladder.
All the penalties are meaningless when a player can return over and over again and ignore the admins. Put them in the box, reduce them in rank whatever...means nothing when you can come back and get a new id and or have several ids.

I would suggest you read the rules and what happens when you don't report on this forum ullaheinz. And in case you don't know as a ladder member you have the right to file non reports (legitimate that is) as well, so it's a two way street. Morale of the story ...report your losses promptly and this nasty business would never have occurred.

Actually I pop over to C3C on the odd occassion and some of those names are still there.
Another name I wonder about Sallandair (I think that was his name) ... he was a sniper in special forces and went to IRAQ very early ... he was one of the originals for the ladder.
Anyways ... times change ... I'm sure there are more memorable characters out there.

I think we had a thread like this once before but I can't find it.
I was cleaning up my contacts list for CIV and ran across a name I haven't seen in a long time ... anyone remember Stinkynuts ?
Is he still around ?

Occassionally I read the forum on my lunch break to see what's happening in the crazy mixed up world of CIV and the ladder and this made me fall out my chair laughing. That's the oddest threat I've heard. I've never considered masturbation something to threaten somebody with ... no wonder he didn't move that unit ... ;D

Merry Christmas to all the ladderites and espcially Wilburn who have no grudge for ... this topic just ran away. And for no particular reason ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxY8JxLLOPEIt made me realize that our conflicts are so less hazardous to our health.

Really well then obviously I'm an ass. You're absolutely right I don't know Willburn and I don't know you. I'll tell you what next time I'm in the lobby I'll join the game you're hosting and drive you nuts. The reason I don't play with half the people on the ladder now is displayed here in this thread. Being admin and coping with all the nonsense made me sick. I left and check in once in a while to see what goes on ... to see if anything has changed. And then I see this thread. Come on the guy says I'm not a cheat and then goes on in the same thread to list all the ways you can exploit things. Does anyone else not see the irony ? I'm sure he's a decent bloke and a fine player but you have to admit that its most strange to list the exploits in the same thread where he pleads innocence. Yes I don't play as much with ladder players because to be quite honest to me ladder play just got so tired. Unfortunately for multi play there is no substitute. You can't get a decent game in the lobby that doesn't end prematurely. No game restarts after ending. You have no idea how lucky it is that the ladder exists. I'm not good a good player ... I'm the first to admit but I understand more than you think. Having said that I'd rather be ignorant in the "finer" points of the game. I have no desire to learn how to learn the exploits ... I was just trying to understand how its possible. I didn't understand his explanation in the thread. His overwhelming command of the English language and proper punctuation just confused me.

Interesting topic besides the Ascesion rambling - btw you really have to see someone about having your prescription modified.
I have been in a few games with people new to multiplay and having combat automation enabled is a common mistake. Ladder players are much more demanding to disable it - which comes down (to me anyway) the host is the person who needs to ensure its clearly identified at the beginning of the game that options are set properly. It takes 10 seconds to make the game more enjoyable for all.
I'm scratching my head a little where Willburn says he didn't know it was a cheat (I don't think it is when people are not aware that its common practice to disable it in multiplay) but he does seem to know so many questionable tactics and the reasons why. Some I don't understand so in the interest of being better informed ...
How do you have someone drop all queued movement on every player ? Not sure what this means.
Not sure what you mean here ... likely my inexperience with the subtleties of the game but what freeze ?
Brilliant ! Now I understand it was intentional ... and all this time I thought I was capturing workers because of my superior key/mouse dexterity ... not !
Not sure what this is ?
What the archers die ?
Any sort of deliberate pausing or causing a lag by downloading a file is cheating. Had I still been an admin this would get you tossed from the ladder.
Which brings me to .... really if you are using any of the tactics (which you obviously have experimented with), how is this skillful ? Do you still get any enjoyment out of the game ? I can't understand people who exploit things like this.
Thank you though for a most educational thread. Most important thing I've learned - not that I play that often anymore - don't play with Willburn.

In the past couple of days I have received several worm infection attempts by email to my warningu2 account.
W32.Stration.DW@mm is the worm attack.
Symantic has prevented the attack however what surprises me is that the virus definition is fairly recent (Nov 8.) Be cautious of accepting any unknown email attachments and be sure to update your virus / worm definitions. Could be someone is trolling the board and or someone in the ladder is already infected.
Just a heads up.

Not sure of the difference but I'm in several DirectIP Pitboss games where the game is password protected and the individual civs are too.
