Hopefully that's fixed. It used to freak my dog out. Think it is. Actually played some teamers, and the same old problem of too many people dying to single units lamely. But, this is made worse by the pinger not only not making a noise, it doesn't give any location finders at ALL! This needs to be improved.

Actually, ping without sound can't be bad. I've played for most my time with all sounds off and it hasn't been an issue. This has been the case after the SAM infantry deafened me and scared me nutsless one too many times. WHOOOOOOOOOOOSH GRACKLE!

Comrade is just another useless piece of software like Xfire before it.. CS XFire is not useless. If anything, it counts time played and i like it So i use it all the time when i'm playing. I too can confirm XFire isn't useless. When doing the KAC tournies I use it to get in touch with Polish and East European players. It tells you if they're playing, when they played last and so you can more easily know if they're about and can get hold of them. It also isn't hard to use. What is their not to like? Pity more people don't use it.

My opinion: Siege weapons were not overpowered. Catapults were. MP beta testers (and some SP beta testers) posted countless times explaining that in order to fix catapults, all the developers needed to do was simply increase the cost of them. Instead of listening to us, they decided they would completely revamp all siege weapons. Why? I'm not really sure. My best guess is that they'd rather recreate the game the way they wanted it to be (the BTS developers were not the same as the original Civ4 developers). Artillery and cannon still own.

besides, DD got his paratroopers! So he's a happy man! The range is an issue...should be at least 7 tiles. Otherwise they are pretty cool.

Cata's seem pretty much perfect right now imo. Will take some more playing to see. I like that swordsman really has emerged as a unit of use. The only problem I really see is that it's very difficult to get very far in enemy territory, perhaps even more difficult than before, just because having a stack of almost all catapults before was defense against collateral while now you need a very diverse stack. A diverse stack will be collateraled and destroyed far too easily.... If MLL is happy, then it must be okay. I agree btw, the seige weapons are still vital and useful, just aren't a replacement for other units which should be present. Artillery for example still are wonderful, wonderful units and cannon too. This shows just how good they are anyway never mind being able to kill! I have had a few ideas on "training" catapults actually as they can't kill units...

Whenever I try to install SMAC it always stalls out at the end of the installation and quits. I guess I could try again on my new computer or try to dl the game (even though I have the freaking cd so it's frustrating!). Smac is an awesome game . It was pretty insane when someone got monsoon jungles though . Well I installed it successfully on my new computer, so that's cool:D. MSg me on c4f or AIM (sn - Malruse) if you want to play SMAC. I don't have expansion, though. Hmm, might have to play you some SMAC (SMAX is horrid), but MP has some serious balancing issues. For one thing datalinks and stealing techs can't be allowed.

It seems there are going to be loads of ancient non-resource units, games will be rush, rush, rush. Kinda funny because this is what SP hate most about MP. I just hope they are really thinking long and hard about civ revolution to come up with a really clever well thought out game. I just hope bts can keep me entertained for a couple of months. I dont think the current game makers know very much about how the game is played out, they seem to have a habit of doing crazy knee-jerk reactions to balance issues. Does anyone know when the game will be out in the US and UK? Think the 20th in the UK. So not this Friday coming, but the one after and on the start of my Summer Holidays. As for balance, I'm inclined the other way to MGT. I don't think it is bad if UU/UB/Traits/Wonders are good, but that there are civs with useless UU/UB/Traits/Wonders in competition. The Numidian Cav, only its mother could love, the Babylonian UB, only if it came with an awesome graphic could it be loved. The Angor Wat...nope, noone could ever love this pointless wonder and finally for a worthless trait, well, I'd say charismatic is the weakest by a country mile.

At this point in time I wouldn't take any release date seriously until you see Firaxis/Take2 release official dates. Retail companies are notorious for making up dates to increase pre-sales. CS Firaxis are notorious for releasing in the USA way ahead of the UK, well notorious in my book. Civ3, her expansions and Civ4 etc. Hell, by the time I got Civ4 and started playing online many Americans had 100s of games to their names. Joy.

I was on play.com this morning about to pre-order my copy of BTS, then i went on amazon.com and noticed there is a 20 day difference between the US release date the UK one. Now i dont mind paying for software, but if paying means waiting an extra 20 days... no thanx. However i can get it ASAP, that’s how i will obtain it. Don’t understand such crazy stuff, and then complaining about piracy being a form of theft. Whats the alternative, wait an extra month? pffffft. I don't see what's the problem. If you want to pay for it then you can always do so, irregardless of how you got the game. Indeed, I "had" to play with a downloaded version of Warlords to start off with whilst waiting for my purchased copy to arrive. As a Civ addict I'm not waiting just because the publishers of this game refuse to sell via a download and are geographically challenged. Now there are many who unlike me won't bother with the whole purchasing the real deal after the event, so it just seems an insane decision to release in the USA and not in the UK at the same time.

so make a giant army of catapults. they can be countered with a HORSE ARCHERS. OMG catapults have a counter!! WOW its a revelation. Problems include the fact that HA get owned by spearmen and elephants which makes attacking catapults tough, HA require a tech that is not often pursued and they are expensive too. However, you're right that not enough of us build up HA to counter catapult led attacking stacks. Just a enough catas to weaken the escorts and throw in the HA. Personnally I liked the way artillery was done in Alpha Centaurai where they could just damage units, but if the stack you were attacking had an artillery unit in it, they'd have an artillery duel and one of the artilleries would die. Success in that duel was influenced by promos and elevation. Man that was teh best game evah.

Simple way to limit catapults is that you can only have 1 catapult for every 3 units other other types so making it an auxillary weapon to the main force.

Due to a lack of free time to properly plan the NC at this time, I have decided to cancel the next NC and move them to between every other CCC instead. Sorry for the late notice, but I felt this was better then running a near copy of the last one and not have put in many changes that are really needed. Sorry, DTA A wise decision. NC shouldn't be too often, maybe 4 times a year to not be burdensome and so that they are special events that people will be keen to play. Please preview the format you're going throguh so people can offer suggestions that could make it better.

Second the teams themselves for the most part failed to organize well in time for the NC, with the exception of the 2 french teams that have a well defined fan site to help them organized. Team Commonwealth was very well organised, just that ALOT of people were happy to sign up but then do nothing or relatively little given there were alot of games to cover. Penny, Myself, Billy_3_Fingers went above and beyond.

Obviously, anything that members of RaY participate in is controversial. Get over it. I swear, if any of us farts, we're blamed for global warming. Only pre-game, once the game starts you guys are fine, it is simply that if people aren't careful you'll try to win the game/tournament before it even starts.

Whilst EON is being opportunitistic to stick the knife in, he is right that the format of the Nations Cup is awful.
14 events requires a large team and with the exception of France and the USA and to a lesser extent Germany it is not possible to effectively compete except as a coalition.
If teams were limited to 6-8 players and far less events, 6 over the 3 days. THEN I think it'd be a tournament that could be a success and far more countries could compete. Individual US States could even be represented I am sure, but as it is on its first outing it is bigger than the CCC.
Now this HAS been said as soon as we saw the format, but no changes were made.
Then we have the whole NATO thing, which was just the sort of bollocks we expect from certain people around here.
I think in its current format this Nations Cup is too long, too fat and requires big teams if you want to stand a chance and what point is there in a tournament where only the larger civ playing countries have a chance?
I think it should be as I suggested and run another time, where there are 6 events and teams of between 6-8 players. If you want a bigger tournament with nations, have Europe Versus America - The Civ4 Ryders Cup.
