...are NOT broken, they actually changed them on purpose for reasons unknown to even me. And yes I have told them how pissed off MPers will be, and I've asked for it to atleast be an option.

you can still ping but there is no sound.....
which begs the question, what will caesar do when hes moved all his units after the first 5 seconds of the turn?
maybe he will shout PING

Well, I can understand why the ping is quiet. Before I gave up playing I had some teamers where there were so many pings that I gave up trying to follow them, and turned my sound off. One or two is ok, but maybe some of the development team found the same players I did!

The "no sound" ping was probably a request by longhorn, lol

A simple limit on consecutive pings in a short period time would have solved ping spam. This solution is one of the weak points in BTS even if it isnt the most important thing in the game. It is still a function that greatly makes team games easier to follow, especially with a fast/blazing timer when the game proceeds quickly, you don't have time to scroll around the map, you can just click the ping pointer.

I prefer the new ping. I mean, its not as useful as the old one, but I'm so sick of ping happy morons who totally screw your game up by pinging, which resets your selected units, and then whine that you didnt move your units in time. bleh.

The new ping is almost useless. You never know when you are being pinged unless you are already looking there and then why would you need a ping? We require sound.

we survived for a VERY long time with NO PING at all, lol
we all used the "grid map" - a simple teamer post like "watch C6" was called TEAM communication.
come on, let's face it, having your team-mates ping you 20 times to show you a unit that's on your civ border and you can already see is just stupid.
Let's face it - when we had them, it use to start with the massive pings at the beginning of the game for a player to a-show off their great land (or their crappy land) but even MORE fun with the three people pinging YOUR land to point out how great (or crappy) your land was, lol.
It went downhill from there to the really bad and notorious pingers who deemed it necessary to ping a stack of enemy units (at least one ping per unit in the stack, lol) - and while he was so busy pinging everyone elses stuff, he'd get boated and lose.
LACK of "noise" ping will cause more people to PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO THE GAME and INCREASE communication levels through clear speach vice simply pointing out a "rock" on the map that you want someone to settle on

I would like to enter the following statement into the record Mr President.
The fact remains that the designers of this game believe that a silent ping is better than an audable ping and this further complements my general opinion that fried and the rest of the mp thinkers are worthless and the designers over at firaxis really arnt intelligent enough and lack strategic insight when it comes to expanding on a product worth purchasing .
I reserve the balance of my time.

Sent via Blackberry That's funny, Fried has had nothing to do with Civ development since before Warlords shipped and you still blame him for a design decision made by SP oriented developers.... That says alot about how seriously we should take your opinions. CS

Incorrect, Anything that occurs on planet earth could support my opinion of fried Becides, even if you did remove Fried from that equation the rest remains accurate. "Updating a product worth purchasing" If the developers of civ were intelligent they could of updated civ and made an expansion which attracted the interests of fans while upgrading or atleast maintaining the respect it recieved from an MP community.

Its not thats just silent... its INVISIBLE if you dont happends to look over that plot of land where the ping occurs. The tracktion market that you could click before so it "zoomed" to the ping is ALSO gone!! =(/&!"!(&%#!(%!(/"#=!/#&(/"& who is the slowed gaming programmer for this game really??
Ok he never pings AI, but i cant play MP because ping is more then necessary to alert your teammates in last second enemy movements and so on.
Outrages crap! wtf is this, if they want no ping spam then just build in that u can only ping every 2nd second or so.
yesterday i had to waste half my turn to explain and make signs to explain where enemy chariots had been sighted.
- OK, have your cursor over your city of Nidaros.
- Now move it up 10 tiles and east 5 tiles.
- Do you see the sign i made?
- OK good, i need to hurry to finish my turn now.
