I'm not so addicted that it stops me holding down a responsible job, but Civ does stop me doing alot of things I should be doing.

It reminds me too much of the game Tropico. Too bright. I hate bright lights. HDR bloom is just noob. I loved Tropico, except for the island generator as that meant my Palace was always on some damn slope and couldn't have a grand plaze in front of it. An undo button also would have been good and less insanely destructive hurricanes!

OMG first strike is crazy i had no idea, i done a test yesterday. It seems to me with first strike, if you are fighting units with considerablly less str, first strike fuc king kicks ass. Its killing the unit even before combat takes place. But when you are facing units that have high str, for example knights, then tripple city works alot better. I thought protective was abit of a tool trait, maybe i was wrong. I found this out during single-player winning an emperor level game as Victoria. So many great generals I was able to have extremely highly promoed units built in capital (West Point there too) and my machine guns...well. Napolean had a vast military, yet it attacked a drill IV machine gunner fortified in a hill jungle, lets just say it wasn't long before he capitulated to me any became a vassal - without me having attacked, let alone taken any of his cities as he had lost that much power. The key is as you say that the unit has a higher strength than the attackers, first strikes re-roll lost battles when combat is being resolved and the more you go, the more chance of not only winning, but winning with no damage. Certainly this is part of the game I'm interested in learning more about, the appeal of a unit nearly impossible to kill.

Subs should definitely be reported to if they are on the winning side, the main perk of taking over someone elses mess.
I agree with the penalty for leaving to be to report to all, simply as it became a certainty that people (and usually the same people) that would never finish a game they started.

Why was that guy's post deleted? Clearly offering a new ranking system is the quickest way to get your post deleted. Poor AddictedForce.

I fully support the admins here. No mercy to team quitters. But, that isn't the admins position.

Well originally subs were not supported at all, and we have not changed that much here at C4P, I'm not sure when they made subs official at C3P but it was after I left as an admin there. Personally I think that making subs official is a dogs breakfast, it would be extremely difficult to prove or disprove and therefore very difficult to enforce as a rule. In my opinion subs are right were they should be, a gentlemen's agreement, and nothing more. And whether a sub is involved or not, has no impact on the rules that must be applied if a complaint is filed. CS What this means in practice is the following as I've just been stung by this: 1. You are accepted as a sub for a player of similar skill - I replaced Knupp. 2. You play and win the game, this time a very easy job as it was a formality as clearly the side we beat were fools not to have conceded early. 3. They don't report. 4. You file non-report. 5. Admin says we don't do reports for subs. Soooo, logic here is that the ladder admins don't mind you not reporting to subs and so why sub in if your contribution is likely to be for nothing. When I subbed in it was in part due to helping Knupp out and partly as the situation sounded good for a win and that it wouldn't take long (important given it had been a long Nations Cup weekend.) Of course I can't name and shame the non-reporters, because for some reason that ain't allowed, but it is allowed to non-report to subs, that is the new law.

Excellent work admins recently from what I've heard chasing down the less honourable ladderites. The sub issue has always annoyed me, now it is clear, you leave, you report as this idea of getting a sub of comparable ability is a nonsense.
Subs should be their to let a game continue, but for the quitter there is a forfeit in reports, simple as.
Now, back to cleaning up GOD of the less worthy members.

i am curious as to if someone could post stats as to how many games are being played, be it week by week ( idealy ) or month by month personaly i dont even try to play much anymore cus i dont have the 2 hours of trying to find a game, on top of the 3 hrs of play time. dont get me wrong , i love the game, just seems that there are a lot less who do these days. Well today there was plenty. Alot of people played a good 12 hours today that is for sure...TBG ancient teamers proving very popular (no ancient UU or jags allowed).

Spore will put civ 4 to shame when it comes out, its the one game im looking forward to play. LOL there is no game there! It looks to me to be a simplistic, playschool trip through easy-peasy mini-games and only appear good by it's apparent scale. The shame of it will be that it is all window dressing and no substance and that I know won't make it a good game for you MGT. I do hope to be proven wrong on this. In terms of games I'm looking forward to...well, Arma coming out already met that category and was a bit of a disappointment (though I've not had time to play mods yet or make my own missions) and next to that I'm looking forward to the next Elder Scrolls Game. TBH I just want to avoid playing Civ4 so much and working so much so I play all these games I've got sitting here barely touched!

Thought of another really annoying thing:
SPECIALISTS
When I set two guys as artists I don't want to find that the AI has gone and changed my selection to something else a few turns later.
When it can be critical to make a great artist or a scientist it shouldn't require so much babysitting to ensure the AI hasn't changed the specialists selected. We're got emphasis growth etc, how about an emphasis a particular type of specialist as an option?

Things to improve or add:
1. Identical land for many more map settings. We've got mirror map which is good for 1vs1 duels, but I'd love to see a hub map with each hub providing the same land to make for a fair contest. Land being so critical in Civ4 it is in my view more a test of ability when you've all the same land, but who uses it better.
2. Agree with AOE, seeing pings in hosting would be good.
3. Reduction in repetitive strain injury - essentially an easy way to set and cancel waypoints for city production as I find it tortuous at present.
4. A go to threatened city option. Essentially you can designate a city as "threatened" and can identify units that if you press the "threatened city button" those units move for that city.
This is to cut down those occasions where people try to use the last seconds of a turn to take out a city when there are units that can respond IF the person is fast enough.
5. Improved connectivity - be it not having to rely on gayspy or less problems with people dropping. We can avoid the use of gayspy by direct ip games, the problem then is communicating with people as the lobby is part of gayspy and it isn't wholly reliable!

I think we need some socialism here. Why dont all the ladder members with lots of money buy premuim memberships for all of us who just can't afford it. See, my mom used to beat me. My dad has been in jail my entire life. My welfare check, food stamps, grants, and loans just didnt get me far. I as a human being am entitled to a premium membership, and healthcare, and social services, and a drivers licence. Why you oppressin us poor folk with ur capitolist membership system. With my system we make rich people buy everyone a memebership so u sell 100% of the memberships. And if the rich people refuse, well thats what siberia is for. Sounds like a case of gene poisoning. Sterilisation in return for gold membership? Deal or no deal?

I have a gold membership because I want the options that really should just come as standard: 1. Them not deleting your account after a short absence e.g an extended holiday etc. This happened twice to my Civ3 account. 2. I like to see who I've played and the ratio of wins to losses I have with them to keep track of my performance against them. 3. $10 a year isn't alot of money. I spend that money buying cotton buds for my ears each year I'd like to be able to see the stats profile of other players, but that just isn't an option.

If you can finish a game or two that is fine, just post what matches got completed in the "follow the action" thread. Unfortunately many euros and Asians have gone to bed. We will do our best to schedule the, matches for next weekend, I know it's easter but not much we can do about GS shutting down for hours. CS It'd be best if clans tried to finish them whenever. People play weekdays e.g random random how hard can it be for mud mdr to get together tomorrow and then ray vs whoever then meet GOD in the final of that event. That way I can at least play in the final of that event which I started and did alot to get us through to the final in.

Ok we are 5-6 hours late for the CCC Sunday matches due to GS crashing. Therefore we will cancel this sunday and move it to next weekend. We will decide on a schedule as soon as possible. All games will start fresh to avoid the possibility that saves will be looked at by anyone. Sorry for the problems but they are out of my hands as well. CS Gamespy is up. We lost 2 hours not 6. Next weekend I'm away and HELL start afresh, no way. We're about to finish our random random, there is no chance that guy can win. Totally outrageous.
