This is what I sent to Firaxis; lets hope they listen to the community. I think they should provide continuous regular patches as opposed to One Patch to Rule Them All! Please feel free to add your quote if your name isnt in this list already.
The following sample of quotes are all from a single thread from a single community (Civ4Players), each from a different person, over a period of 2 days (28th to 29th of March). Please monitor this first post as I edit in more comments over time.
"The number of games in lobby are indicative of the connectivity issues. It is our hope that a good patch will remedy the situation." "At the moment it is a frustrating job to be a tourney director because of the issues involved... Let's keep our fingers crosses regarding the stability of the patch." - GCAvogadro, C4P Admin
"I logged on last night and saw <10 people in the lobby and the game list less than half a page full. I think people are simply fed up with Firaxis, the retire bug is a game stopper that should have been a quick patch by firaxis." - notagoodname
"It's not like these are content patches or big design issues; these are little bugfixes for major issues. Waiting months for them is inexplicable." - Elledge
"Patches: FFS what is up with this? how long has it been? One patch, thats a great thing, thanks gang. Take the money and run me thinks... too much trouble to create a patch that fixes a few SIMPLE problems... Of course it is too much to expect, lets wait till we get a patch for everything and release it. Hmm, lets call it Civ 4 Expan$ion more money Yehaw." - DrShot
"I should have been fired from my work a long time ago if i fixed bugs as "fast" as Firaxis programmers." - Ellestar
"If you say ladder dying more cos of bad peers and tech than these other things, then I say prolly good point." - arma
"Most know I am a big fan of civ, but we have been told now for about 2 months that the patch will be out any day now. Starting to look more and more like it is going to be included in the XP. If you want the patch you have to buy the XP. Now this may not be the case, but the amount of time it has taken to unfrustrate alot of customers is not "good business"." - DustyDragon
"I wish the patch was out yesterday as well" - CanuckSoldier
"Wish I could find games easier...it's ok at the weekend but just now...I have given up again. A few open games that was all. Guess I'm the wrong time zone or something!" - Magzi
"i m not sure - but maybe this suppercrapy costumer support gets known in public a bit and discourage new byuers - they did this nonsupport it in civ3 allready now in civ4 - I should have known" - tommynt
Edit: 30th March Update:
"A LONG time ago I told myself to take some time off ladder play until connection issues were fixed by the upcoming patch. I'm still waiting..." - NicodaMax
"There should be a lesson here, there should have been a quick patch to clear up some of the minor bugs." - Sidhe
From a seperate Thread in which I explicitly invite people to comment:
"It's looking more and more like they're waiting for the expansion now and I don't see how they could possibly force people to buy a bug-fixing patch but if that's the case I'm out. I don't understand what's taking so long. We don't need a patch that fixes every single balance issue in the game. Not now anyway. We need a patch that fixes all the down-right broken parts of the game that make it impossible to play like the 'retire bug' and 'password bug'." - lporiginal
"I have had enough of people saying they are working flat out. Spend some of those millions you made on this for an extra programmer, prefrabbly one that know a little about networks." - Tony
"I have no intention of buying any expansion pack. The only way I would buy the expansion is if they fixed all the bugs and integrated an online ladder, which rated games automatically reported wins/losses to a ranking website. I think Firaxis has done a disgraceful job, and it is their responsibility not TakeTwo's, as some people have incorrectly surmised." - weaksauce
"This is very sad though. Wasn't MP really hyped in the prerelease propaganda from Take2? Wasn't there a rather large, solid group of C3C ladder players involved in play-testing with the aim of making MP really work? (thank you very much, btw) Haven't we been hearing about a "final" patch for months?" - whiplash
"I have no idea how Firaxis work and frankly I don't care, I want a patch to fix the errors last month and I want it then, since they have all been fixed this stalling is intolerable, patch now anything else is just fobbing people off with lameness, wow I have gone a whole month without playing CIV that's amazing? Good work firaxis this pile is annoying the hell out of everyone, fix it I'm bored of reading all the complaints." - Sidhe
"I am VERY disappointed after all the promises that have been are are being made. I have a message for Sid Meier if by some chance he should happen to read this thread. Sid, when its time to start thinking about civ5, fire Firaxis, fire Take2 and abandon the peer to peer concept. Instead hire Blizzard entertainment to produce a client/server version of civilization and produce a game that you can take pride in having your name on the box." - Levi
I'm sure people are probably talking in other threads of other communities. Please Firaxis, dont disappoint your fans like this.
