Dreaded network socket error again. Reloaded. Looks like we have another one, unfortunately... can't connect once again. EDIT: Hmm, well that was odd. It's working now. Must have been on my end. Just WarningU2 to play...

Is there a 1000 AD benchmark? And what is one supposed to do for them, if there is one?

Quoting from the Epic Guidelines: Wins will be awarded at the following years: 2000BC, 500BC, 500AD, 1000AD, 1500AD, 1800AD, 1900AD, 1950AD, 2000AD, 2050AD. Guests who are kind enough to take over for a leaker need not report.

Quoting from the Epic Guidelines: Could you provide a link to these 'Epic Guidelines'? Thanks. Wins will be awarded at the following years: 2000BC, 500BC, 500AD, 1000AD, 1500AD, 1800AD, 1900AD, 1950AD, 2000AD, 2050AD. So, am I correct in assuming that the player with the highest score at each benchmark "wins" that benchmark? Does this have any effect on the overall winner of the game, then? (Eg if one player wins all benchmarks but is then annihilated by another civ just before the end of the game.) Guests who are kind enough to take over for a leaker need not report. OK, that's fine. I figured that since I'm currently in the #1 position it might have been worth doing so or something. ;D

Citizens of the search for the shrubbery rejoice !
A visiting Carvel from a land far away has turned up on our pen is shaped shores bearing gifts of sharp pointed sticks and flattened rocks.
The visitors are thanked with the empassioned salute of our people - to trumpet their arrival with great bends of our buttocks towards their heart felt stares.
Nicht Nicht Nicht ... Niiiii !
(ok so it was a long day at work today - seriously it is good to see someone visit me ... I've been so lonely on my odd shaped land.)

Join ladder emperor, and you get reports for all benchmarks as far as I understand it. As good as you start seems to be, I would say, you should announce yourself a fully active player and forgo any sub courtesies.

I still don't understand what exactly I'm supposed to put in a report and who I'm supposed to send it to, but whatever.

Since your leading you don't have to report at all - everyone else reports to you Does anyone have a ranking that we use for the turn ? It seems to have jumped about a lot since the turn started. I feel for you Warning I've also been stuck on an Optics isolated island in the tundra belt but at least it looks to have been a bit bigger than yours.

Emperor, every benchmark(BM) a player reports his loses to everyone with a higher score. You are first place so everyone will report to you. Let's say next BM you are 3rd in place. Then you would report ose to all above you in score and get reports from all below you in score. If you get killed or are last in score, at the next BM, then you would report to all. Got it?
One more example. I will be reporting lose to: Emperor Score 717 plattfuss Score 711 Elucidus Score 669 IglooDude Score 650 Test_Of_Time Score 615 whiplash Score 576 IanDC Score 522 And getting reports from: Pagan[CyC] Score 480 Conquistador45 Score 410 KC_Random Score 314 WarningU2 Score 215
If they were all ladder players that started the game at the beginning

Quick question(s) for you guys, since I'm certain someone in this bunch will know the answer: 1) Is Pitboss only functional with the Warlords expansion? 2) If it's already functional with the basic game, are there games played with that version? 3) Are you loving it? Why / why not? Better than PBEM? Thanks, Onan p.s.: sorry for the threadjack. Admins among you, feel free to dump me in a new thread linked here or something.

I think this is the superior way to play the game of CIV. I wish there was a few more ladders hosting them. I wouldn't mind joining about 3 more. 120 -130 turn headbangers are fun but having time to analyze your moves and play epic format is great. And pitboss is nice cause I get my CIV fix when I don't have time for a 2 to 4 hour MP game.
Pitboss vs PBEM: I can't imagine myself getting into PBEM with 6 to 8 human players. I would just move to slow for me, I,m sure. I played a few 1v1 PBEM with AI in the mix and I enjoy those, but more than 2 human players, no way I wouldn't even try it. Wait, actually I am involved in the ISDG, which is PBEM, with, I think, 7 players. And that is painfully slow, but doesn't seem too bad cause we all debate over next moves.
I don't think I would start another pitboss game with earlier version of CIV and wouldn't plan on starting a new one till the next expansion, Beyond the Sword, comes out in July.

Thanks for your feedback, Necro. I completely agree that the slower games are the way Civ was meant to be played--at least, I find them much more enjoyable, with full diplomacy and not just kill kill kill ASAP.
Hmmn, I hope BTS and Warlords are bundled by then, and I won't have to buy both separately just to play a pitboss game....

I think with Beyond the Sword EP you'll need the original dics and just BtS but don't need WL installed.

As Necro says, it's functional with both the original Civ4 and Warlords. 2. Yes, there are, although they're diminishing in number since most people now have Warlords and there's no sense in playing without the new features. I'm currently in one such vanilla Civ4 Pitboss that's in the late modern ages (we're now fighting with Mech Infantry and soon Modern Armor). That's still an extremely exciting game, with the 15 remaining players roughly split into two fairly evenly matched alliances. The battles and struggles over territory are immense, and the game still hasn't fallen to one side or the other. You can find that game on Civstats, actually: www.civstats.com/viewgame.php?gameid=23By the way, I expect that once the second expansion (BTS) becomes common amongst people, games started in Warlords will begin to diminish too. 3. Absolutely, Pitboss is awesome. It's like a PBEM in many ways, in that each time you log into your turn you can analyse your position and play out your moves. Pitboss and PBEM both tend to bring out the best in players, since you have to make every turn count (not like in single player where it's just enter-enter-enter at the end of the turn). The diplomacy between players is also much more exciting, since you actually have time to discuss with them between moves. Unlike PBEM though, you don't ever get that annoying lag when one player goes on holiday (for instance), so turns are pretty much rigidly stuck to 24 hours (or less, if everyone ends their turn in time). This is the major thing which makes Pitboss better than PBEM, since you can have a (virtually) unlimited number of human players with little to no extra turn delay, whereas a PBEM with any more than 4 or 5 players will usually experience a severe lag. With Pitboss, you can go to 18 players and beyond. Necro: If you want to get involved in more Pitboss games, there are always large-scale games being started over at Strategamer, or alternatively you can try CFC. Of course, you may wish to stick with PAL, and that's fine. Personally I just go wherever the games are though, myself.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I look forward to possibly getting into a BTS pitboss game with some of you later in the year.

I wasn't around today and find that the game was down. I have no intermediate save, so 1090 AD is now up with no turns played.
