This is also posted in the Epic Forum:
I am involved in a Warlords PitBoss epic hosted by ColonelTrieze. It's running quite well and I am now convinced that PitBoss is stable. PitBoss combines the best of an EPBM and a real-time MP game. It eliminates the suspision of the reload cheat by capturing each unit move on the server at the instant it is made. (Too bad the ISDG was launched before this feature was available) It can be played EPBM style with a preset turn time limit or in real time if all of the players are availble for a real time session.
I am proposing the following play format:
24 hour limit for one turn per day for each player, and A 3-4 hour time commitment for real time play on weekends.
This means that you will commit to playing one turn any time of every day and for the weekend session at a time mutally agreed upon.
I would like to run this with 6 or 8 dedicated players. If I only get 4, I might consider running 4 players each having 2 civ's.
We can discuss settings, the settings in Trieze's game seem to be working pretty well.
Post here if interested.

I'd be in if it's going to be a 24 hr pitboss and would likely play turns as they came up at weekends (As I understand it if all players have played the turn clock resets) but not sure I could be sure of a 3-4 hour slot every weekend.

What's so crazy about it? I think people freak out about leaving their own computer with their own info on it connected 24-7, worried about hackers, and information stealing etc. But if you have more than 1 computer, and the 24-7 is dedicated just to games and has nothing valuable or personal on it and isnt networked to your other computers that have personal/valuablse information......I dont think it's that crazy at all. Just a dedicated game server.

If it is one turn a day count me in. The weekend part may be possible on some weekends.

I've never played a PitBoss before... but I'm interested in playing in one. I like the idea of playing a little each day...
I'm not sure about the 3-4 hours on a weekend thing except for maybe the first week to get things started though.
In Pitboss, do you get a lot of people drop out as they start to loss - or do most players finish?
Please message me if I can play.
Cheers. mmm_ok

I'll take a spot and can play most weekends. I am in treize game as you know and the one setting I would like to see change is to have a slightly bigger world. I think epic should be very roomy pangea map to give all room to expand and to meet all players. A snakey like land mass or an inland sea would work too.
But that being said I will gladly take a spot no matter what the map or settings are. I player should be able to adjust to all factors.

Whiplash I would be interested in participating in your game as well if you need any more players.
If you are already full I would be happy to sub temporarily or on a permanent basis.
I have no problems reporting from a subsitution position either ... makes no difference to me.

There is one major issue with this IMO. I LOVE randomness, this is one of the main reaons i play civ to see what i can do with any given situation.
But if you are going to invest lots of time on such a game it is piontless and boring if you have a ice dominated start for example.
And mulligans kinda lame and slow!

I'd also like to reiterate what I said in the other thread for this game:
"The only recommendation I would suggest is using a Terra map. I think Continents encourages the players on each continent to team up, each continent then isloates itself, then possibly the two or three continent-teams do battle. This format can be predictable. On a Terra map, everyone will meet before Optics, therefore they will have to choose sides based on other factors. Also, Terra still allows a New World to be settled. This map worked great in another diplomacy style game I played. Good luck, whip!"
Out of seven Civs, there are 3 on one island, and 3 on another. Poor Conqui started alone on a small island, with no ability to trade until other Civs came to him. I am saying this out of character (ooc) as an objective host.

I was actually thinking Snakey Continents, Huge. This usually yields 6 or 7 medium to large size continents.

That's fine, too. But remeber, Terra maps have enough land for every civ to have a decent empire on the first continent, plus a second decent empire in The New World.

Ok, it looks like 11 players if everybody follows through.
My suggested rules/settings:
FFA with no AIs
Settings Map: Snakey Continents Size: Huge Climate: Temperate Sea Level: Medium Starting Era: Ancient Speed: Normal World Wrap: Cylindrical Resources: Balanced
Options No Barbarians: unchecked No Technology Trading: unchecked Permanent Alliances: unchecked Always War: unchecked Always Peace: unchecked Permanent War or Peace: unchecked Require complete kills: checked
All game victories are enabled, as well as additional scoring opportunities during the game at ten benchmark years. The firstBM year will be 500 BC instead of 2000 BC(see sections 26-8, 26-9, 26-12, and 26-13).
Multiplayer Options Simultaneous turns: checked Take over AI: checked Shuffle Teams: unchecked (N/A) Anonymous: unchecked Turn Timer: checked (You have 24 hours maximum to log in and make your move. Players are asked to make an effort to play more often than this when available. If a player misses enough consecutive turns without a good reason, he/she may be kicked pending admin consultation.) Turn Limit: none (except for the standard 2050 endgame) City Elimination: none
There is a default rule that states that in an epic there shall be NO WAR until 500 BC. We are not using this rule in our epic. I repeat: war can be declared at any time, as the game would allow.
This will be a password-protected Direct IP hosted game from my PC which will be logged on throughout the entirety of the game. One potential little headache is that my ISP uses dynamic IP's. This means my IP occasionally changes. I will monitor this and update the players.
I will email the password of the game to you before it begins. I need potential players to provide their email addy for this and other host-like things to my email at: whiplash@wi.rr.com. I'd like to also remind everyone to password-protect your civ at startup and include your email addy in the player details section in the staging area (Ctl D) if you want to recieve an automatic email telling you when it's your turn.
