Some comments on the 1v1 settings:
I just played a practice game against Knupp. We got a Modern start on the Random era.
* The map is huge even on duel size.
* You cannot play Modern on a Fast Timer. You will not be able to finish your turns, and in a 1 city elimination game you cannot afford to be trying to move all of your units during the last 10 seconds of a turn. We play using a Medium Timer for the Random/Random, and probably should here as well.
* 120 turns in the advanced eras is going to result in some very long games. Unless people are dying left and right to rushes, this event will take much longer than it ever has before.

I'm echoing everything mookie said here. This map was larger than it needed to be on a modern game. Forget about ever attacking during the early eras. Your opponents will be so far away what's the point of ever attacking? Build-fest.
Any event played on random era needs to be medium turn timer.

* The map is huge even on duel size. yea, like i said, the map script generates really big maps ... since duel is they smallest size and high sea will give you only 1 tile land on the right/left edge in 99%, there's no chance to make it smaller * You cannot play Modern on a Fast Timer. You will not be able to finish your turns, and in a 1 city elimination game you cannot afford to be trying to move all of your units during the last 10 seconds of a turn. We play using a Medium Timer for the Random/Random, and probably should here as well. well, you CAN play modern on a fast timer ;D ... only the 1st maybe 10 turns are hard, after that it's manageable (depends on the player though, if you are not familiar with later eras it might be even harder, but for myself i have no probs with fast ), but i'm ok with playing it on medium (as long as ppl hit enter if it's anc/class or just concede if they let 5 turns hit zero in a row ) * 120 turns in the advanced eras is going to result in some very long games. Unless people are dying left and right to rushes, this event will take much longer than it ever has before. oops, i missed the turn limit in my test games ... the AI was dead too early, but i agree that 120 turns might be too much - 100 turns should be a good middle and acceptable in every era. I'm echoing everything mookie said here. This map was larger than it needed to be on a modern game. Forget about ever attacking during the early eras. Your opponents will be so far away what's the point of ever attacking? Build-fest. building is part of the game, we have events like CTON and ironman which are mainly build-fests ... and imho you can have good fights starting with class or at least medi, those few games starting at anc, well, build better than your opp ...

PAF clan is missing in the schedule here. It's not a big deal but it might be easier for you to add us before the CCC begins

wtf u f**ked up the 1-1?
I m really pissed here - why kill classics? also fast timer is way too fast - even for anc fast is nearly too fast after u got some cities - but in later eras it s impossible if u arent a machine. I m no machine and i dont wana be one.
If civ is about who clicks fastest not about who can play best there s no need to play civ as there are way better games which need fast clicks

I'm very familiar with later eras, I play both modern and future for RaY. Mookie and I drew modern and I couldn't think. The first 20 turns it's a struggle to even move all of your units before the next turn begins on fast timer. Forget about strategizing or even thinking about what you are doing.
I agree with Tommy. Change isn't always good. 1v1 Mirror Ancient was a classic.

Sure building is part of the game. But it shouldn't be all of it. If we are going to start playing duels to see who builds the fastest, count me out. One dimensional games like this are no fun, just like a 12 man duel map where all you can do is attack wouldn't be fun either.

Well apparently it is impossible to make everyone happy, a few people now are saying "don't change" when last CCC's thread said "playing the same stuff is boring" why can't we change some of it? I of course will keep a close eye on problems/balance issues with events this CCC and make changes as required for next CCC but I think we have a pretty good line up right now and making knee jerk changes for every different post here would be counter productive in the week before the CCC. People did have 2 weeks before this to give us there opinion and we acted on the feedback we recieved. CS

The question was about which map to use for 1-1 not which era and timer ...
CS dont get me wrong I appreciate your work so much - what u r doing for this game is imo more then some1 can do. But some ccc settings are so weired that I then often just think - this guy never played this setting otherwise he d know ..

QFT, I thought some of the map changes were really interesting, and was disappointed to see them voted down in the polls CS put up. Let's not turn the CCC into a chess tournament; I think it's far more fun to have to come up with new ideas and think on your feet than it is to try to perfect the opening you've played 100 times before.

I only issue i have with saying that the map is no good is why did no one say this 2 weeks ago? I can't very well change a map everyone has been practising for the day before the CCC. I will look at this issue for the next CCC however. CS

My only complaint so far would be that the Industrial Event is at a horrid time for Europeans. Late night finishing Friday Events and then dead early in morning. No wonder we could get up for it as it is hard to sleep only for 2-3 hours.
Then nothing until 3 pm apart from the ironman which is one guy.
Bored now, no games for me till the modern like ages away.
Then Sunday is mental with tonnes of games in a short period.

Although most people aren't like you DD, they don't actually want to play in all 6 events that they are legally able As to sunday, I could spread out the start times, but I don't want to start any match to late or the euros will be playing until monday morning if matches take a long time. CS You know, we all complain about the events, times, and settings every CCC. I think the general consensus is that the admins and the previous TDs do not play the game types that the majority of us ladder players are playing. My resolution is to give the the top several clans, maybe the top 4,6, or 8, home field advantage. In that, they get to pick an event they want, the settings, and the time. This way, the onus is on us, we're getting the damn events we want, and actually getting points in previous CCCs have some sort of bearing. The CCC, not having a regular season, it appears that some starting clans have a hard time staying together for more than 1 CCC or if they are around, from even improving their standings at all.

Dey and I were talking about this: How about a draft for the 7 teams events for the top 4 clans. There are 7 different eras therefore there will be 7 different events. Also, the Ironman, OCC cton, Cton, 1v1, and Random/Random events being staples in the CCC lineup. I recommend the following: Each team would get to pick the event they want, the map they want, and the time they want it. I also I assume that the team events would take place in this order 2 on Friday, 3 on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday. 1. MDR would get 3 picks 2. RaY would get 2 picks 3. MUD would get 1 pick 4. RUS would get 1 pick
THe draft would follow
1st round: MDR,RaY,MUD,RUS 2nd round: MDR,RaY 3rd round: MDR

MUD/SD2R, it was an alliance...

MUD/SD2R, it was an alliance... That would be a sticking point, if the two clans decided to play seperately in the next CCC, but I'm sure something could be worked out. After all, you did manage to work out a plan to play in the CCC together.

After playing Industrial on an HB map in the Nation's Cup, I would suggest that the CCC Industrial event be changed from Ring to HB Ring. Granting every player access to Coal, Oil, and Uranium in a later era game can only be a good thing.
