Yeah an 'Actual Replay' that you can view from the perspective of any player. You can see their build order, research order, etc You can see how they reacted to what you did and drastically improve your game (or just laugh @ their team chat as you whooped them ;D). I used to play Rise of Nations and it had the replay feature (I believe AoE had it aswell). The actions and camera movements were all saved to a rather tiny file which could be loaded through the game to watch a playback. You couldn't change the course of history so to speak, but simply view it as an observer (again, from any point of view you chose). You could also fast-foward or pause the game as you saw fit. You could open up the fog of war or follow someones view exactly (where were they looking when you attacked in 5 places @ once?). Even if people try to 'steal your strats' it doesn't mean they are adaptable players or that they have as good micro as yourself (and of course, you always know how to beat your own strats). It's great for players of all levels to be able to watch someone elses playstyle compared to their own, or perhaps in reaction to their own And there's also the possibility of ego posts accompanied by a replay file ;D So, umm ..I'm guessing it's not in the game then. I still haven't been able to find it. There's some useless blocky playback of your religion spreading, but I'm not sure why anyone would recommend you watch that -just watch the minimap during a replay ;D

I see. So the problem is then that games don't complete properly.
eg. if everyone leaves, and is replaced by AI, can I stop the game and watch the replay, or do I have to play it through to it's conclusion against the AI just to watch the replay?
Other games I have had everyone elses scores on 0 but the game didn't say 'grats u win' or anything so i just retired and went back to the lobby like usual. Afterwards I find I cannot seem to watch the replay even though I won.
On the other side of the coin, if I am defeated do I have to stick around until the game's conclusion just to watch the replay. My score is 0 so my game is over -surely I should now be able to view the replay right now??

I saw this in the newbie tips: 'Watch your opponents in replays after the game is over'. I've played a few RTS games before and love watching the replays (especially their team chat as you play sneaky tricks on them ). But I can't for the life of me figure out how to watch replay's in CiV4. There is no option in the main or multiplayer menu to have anything to do with replays. There is no option after you beat everyone to watch a replay (hell you don't even get a 'grats'). So, umm ...How do you do it?

I've reconnected to MANY oos games (and dc'd a couple times) and only once did it prompt me for my password.. That's including 1.00 and 1.09 ;D Infact, the one time it did prompt was my 1st 1.09 game and I was like "Yes, it's fixed!" Sadly I was mistaken ;D

Well I downloaded xfire when prompted but can't find a 'civ4 room' or anything. I already have 'friends' listed that I don't know and it seems kinda useless. Does anyone actually use it?
The lobby is severely broken even after the patch, but someone there directed me here so I guess it's not all bad ;D

Thought you were intelligent enough to fill in the blanks there.
But I'll spell it out for ya: Civ4 is a backwards step from RoN in terms of connectivity, stability and control.
The same could probably be said for Civ4 being a backwards step from Online Solitare ;D

It's an awesome game, but has a few connectivity problems. Not as bad as civ4, but they are still there. It uses gayspy aswell The lobby is way better designed tho (ie you can see the lobby whilst in a game room). The ladder rankings are all official and built into the game aswell. Really, civ4 is a backwards step, but it's a nice change to play with a different ruleset once in a while.. ;D Thing I like about RoN is, depending on how good your opponents are, you can go through the 8 different ages in as little as 25-30 mins (that's solid booming -most games you will be stuck in the first few ages for a while whilst fighting). Someone told me they were bringing out expansion2 for RoN, but I haven't looked into it (although if it came out I'd definately get it).

The civ programmers have always been poor. Always have, always will be.
This isn't limited to the civ games on pc either. Civ2 on ps1, for example, is buggy as hell. RoN (made by ex-civ Bryan Reynolds) has similar mp probs to civ4 (though less). The list goes on..
These guys need to hire a team of programmers and stick to designing. Their designs are awesome, but the execution is absolutely terrible.
*RoN (Rise of Nations) is like an RTS-civ4, but came out sooner -was the 1st RTS to have religion borders, 'villages', many special resources, etc

To the OP:
Have a look @ your starting techs. Hunting is required to build Scouts. Different Civs start with different techs.
If you don't start with Hunting you get a Warrior. However, if you do start with Hunting it gets 'upgraded' to a Scout.
Get to know your Civs. Know which start with a Warrior and which start with a Scout. As people are choosing their Civs you should know who is rushable and who isn't.
I tend to play with Civs that start with a Scout and always get rushed by the Decent players in about 5 turns.
You don't have to report people, it's not cheating. You just don't fully understand how the game works.
