I am currently thinking about picking up a new computer, I am between a dell and a compaq...the dells video card is an "integrated intel extreme graphics 2 (320-2870)" will it work for this game? The chances of it working are the same as the Bears winning 5 straight. translates to: guaranteed to work, since they gonna roll over San Fran this Sunday. I highly recommend HP/Compaq over Dell Dish. Dell is useless. Are you going for a desktop or notebook?

Personally I would avoid an integrated graphics card. A new comp now I would want to see at least 256MB graphics card in there. I like to know my RAM isn't going to Graphics, or at least if it is, it is rectifiable and I can upgrade a graphics card and solve that.

I've been eyeballing some nice athlon 64 3400s w/ 2.2 ghz for $500 on www.techforless.com. They're refurb though... dunno how u feel about those. I like Dell: great quality. We bought our first Dell back in 1994 after our 6 month old packard bell broke down. Hehe my dad kept that computer for almost 8 years. Anywho, I don't care for Hewlitt-Packard (HP) because of that piece of crap we got back in the 90s. If you're going to go name-brand, Dell is the way to go, imo. Integrated graphics = non-gamer graphics

Don....yea I am looking at a desktop. It will accomplish 2 things upgrade the computer and get my 15 year old the hell off of mine. I am leaning to the compaq..

People who use computers actually buy premade crap computers? I thought dell got all there sales from buisness owners and computer newbies....
BUILD YOU OWN!
that way you choose what it gets. Its cheaper. It's very very easy to do (if you take the time to learn about what you are doing before you cut cards to make them fit!~).
The only "hard part" is the blasted windows installation.
Just wanted to add, right now i am using a dell at work. any time it hangs up the only power reset switch does not work, and they did not include a switch on the power supply. I'm actually required to UNPLUG the computer... now thats planning.

There is a third set...people who dont want to spend their time building something that they only have to pay a few dollars to build...sorry my time is worth more than the savings...and by the way if the reason you were unplugging the computer is because you didnt know to hold the button down for a few seconds umm good luck with what you build!!

LOL! You have any idea on the amount of cash and qaulity you get in return for building it yourself? You have fun with your pre-made 2.6 ghz celeron with 1024mb pc2100 ram and 256mb nvidia 5700.

Dish, how much is your time worth?
The last system I put together took me one hour for the hardware and 1 1/2 hours to get the OS straight. That system under a corporate nameplate would cost $500 more.

ignore these pompous computer building geeks Dish. We're professionals our time is money. We have better things to do with it like play video games ;D However if you can build your own computer while saving time and money, more power to you. Maybe you can build yourself a car, tv, house, and anything else out there that in our modern economy has not fallen to the overrated relationship between specialists and stupid consumers.

well whip you still had to pay for the components so I dont think you saved the full 500 bucks. and yilar one man's satisfaction is another man's pain in the ass...well in most cases anyway...I definately side with lv on this one .... you build, Ill buy and more power to ya!!

I'm sure I saved the $500 because I know what I have and I know what a comparable HP, Compaq, Dell or whatever costs for the same thing.
It's really not hard to assemble a system. The only drawback for me is that I have large hands and fingers. Sometimes it's kinda tough getting into the tight spaces.

Do you get illegal copies of programs? or do you pay the full price for Windows, MS Works, Excel, Outlook Today, and any other program? And after purchasing all of those, is it still less than buying a pre made?

hoped this thread could stay clean and have only things to be patched in - sure dishs PC have to be patched aswell - but thats not topic i guess
another "bug" i found was 2 continents on a 1-1 morrior duel map - we had exactly same land but a huge sea in the middle - I doubt that any1 wana have a MP 1-1 starting on 2 different continents
next bug: once a mais tiles produced 6 food - thats 1 too much
also no bug but a failed game concept is the superfast wooding - wtf does it only take 2 turns and give 20 shields - both is far too powerful atm lot of players seem not to have figured how powerful it is - but soon we ll see 4 workers of each civ just wooding all map - not sure if that does fit into the soooo far advanced game concept
I doubt that we ll see it but there should be something to make these early pilliging raids of superior units beatable - something like a catapult in a more early tech
take of 1 hp each turn or so to be able to kill the axeman/chariot at some time with the bow
every civilisation should be able to defend at least its own land (not only city) somehow

I hate that too. But you can Que up units.
IE: Hold down shift then click
Settler, Warrior, Warrior
and go for your attack, when the settler is done, it won't ask you for your next build only start building the warrrior.
Hope that helps.

"minimize popups" Find that in options and make sure you check it, very important!! It delays the build/tech popup till you have moved all your units, or you can click the icon and do it whenever you like..
