You haven't actually mentioned what you're racing for.. a wonder? a tech? a unit? a resource?

With an ancient start usually a defensive unit, then a worker when it reaches size two, then chop for a granary. usually I try to have a second worker out pretty quick from the first city to start managing bonus tiles asap in the second city. If I'm lucky I can work towards the tiles closest to where I want to place the city in the first place and so save a turn or two setting up the city. One of my biggest mistakes is not sending out warriors in advance of a plant, sometimes I just forget and end up having to wait while the escorts catch up or dodging bears for a couple of turns. Having played only limited amounts of the other starts I'd say pretty simillar. Granaries as ever are pretty key.

In every start after ancient, granaries are already in place.

Not so sure about classical...?

What Jever and Avogadro say is true and STILL happens. If you automate your city, it will never get back to non-automated until the end of the game! I got that too, it's a BUG that needs to be worked out in the next PATCH. Annoying as hell. Do NOT automate your cities until the next patch, or they will never be non-auto again in that game.

Not so sure about classical...? Isn't that the one and only building in place in Classical?

I thought I'd remembered building them on classical starts, so I checked. Nope, you got nada in your cities with classical, 'cept the palace. Must be medieval.

Hey everyone,
Civ4 is my first experience with the series. But I've played a lot of MP freeciv. I understand that sp vs mp is much different... wanted to hear any suggestions on settings for a sp game that would best emulate a mp game. Not really possible I know, but any settings changes to bring it a bit closer would be welcome.

Hmmm, not sure how you can emulate MP, but 1 setting that most MP games have is "always war" pretty much teaches you what units are effective agianst what. ie spears agianst horses, etc. And it always allows you to get a mental map of where each technology is and what each technology gives you, which is very Important IMO

the only problem with always war with AI is that you'll be at war with them, but they won't necessarily be at war with each other. So, it'll teach you defense pretty quick.

How do I reload an mp game when its over to view histograph? I died turn 89 and wish to see how many cities my opponent had....

I think the current histograph "graphics glitch" prevents that (which may be tied in with "the fog or war")

As far as I know, Avo, unless you get to the end of the game, you don't get to see the replay. I don't like it either.

Could they have made it that way to prevent cheating?? Drop check save and comeback within 10 minutes. I figured some did it in c3c.
I haven't seen it specifically stated but assume it to be the case. Do bombers have defensive value when inside a city and being attacked? In c3c they had none so just wanted to verify what it was. And if they do have defensive value, do they get the benefits of culture bonus and land defense like other units.

When you die, you're pretty much at "end of game" LOL!
and yes, you can view histograph (at least what's there, lol) when you die.

FYI - as Admins we can't move a single post. We can move a thread, but not a post.

I can cut and paste someone's words into my own post - but that's not the same thing as moving a user's post, which for some reason we can't do.
