When you first get the game and start playing it, will you first play it online or offline? I hear some people jump to play multiplayer, without first trying the campaigns.
I will have a nice cup of hot chocolate and I'll play the campaigns. I hear they have better campaigns now, with a storyline, etc.
But how long will it take you to go for the multiplayer? One hour, one day? I think I will first finish a couple of campaigns, then play multiplayer.

I'll play a little SP just to get a feel for the game but I'll probably be looking for a MP game that evening.

Well to me this is the best Civ game since Civ2, and has that "just one more turn" addiction that C3C never quite had like Civ2 did, but CIV certainly does. I'll still be a MP player first, but for the SP crowd you might even find a few susprises around the corner in CIV CS

You beta testers don't have many reasons to play SP. In fact, you have an unfair advantage in MP, because you know what the deal is. That's another reason why the rest of us should first try it in SP, first.

I'll play MP 1st, because more player will find tricks faster than you can alone Don't think anyone will play ladder games that night, think everyone will just be testing game. Except of those beta testers, who'll be looking for ez wins.

I'll probably be playing a bit of both. I played civ3 for almost a year before I went online, mostly due to not having internet. But once I went MP I never went back. But hopefuly as some have said SP will have a lot of new things to do that civ3 did not. But most likely I'll end up playing strictly MP. I like the interaction with the other people.

I'll play SP first, for how long I don't know. When PTW came out, MP was unplayable before the patches came out. With CIV, the MP game is on par with SP in that it will be playable immediately, but I'll still want to learn from SP before moving on to MP.

Unless you have a computer with alot of memory you might want to start out on a small/meduim map, I'll talk more about system requirements on release day as I have a article ready for the tech section on these issues.

Good, thats exactly what I wanted to know CS. ;D However, as far as online or offline, I believe I will take it to my buddies LAN setup in his basement, for a little co-op against the AI.

Ahh yes the good old 2 minute IBT i used to get on huge maps with c3c, not as bad as some from what i have heard. That being the reason they scaled down the map sizes this time i guess, still I dont see why it should take any longer for the turns than c3c as the 3d shouldnt affect that, isnt it just all the calculations the ai has to do? But I can still put up with it to be able to play huge maps.

Once I found mp I never completed another sp game. I never even loaded a single sp game from ptw onward. I take that back..... there were a couple of ccc scenarios that I needed to see to prepare for long ago.
Anyway... MP rocks. AI getting huge advantages on tough settings is mundane compared to playing your average Joe Human. "Foolish" Human moves allow for remarkable risk/rewards that AI never take/gain... IMHO
CivII Gold was great for human vs. human play without the frustration of connection issues and the occasional unknown player exacerbating the most patient among us. I am hopeful cIV will bring us the best of both. No more imposters! I am not yet willing to hold my breath for no reloads but I got to believe the new platform is miles ahead of the old SP design.

Hopefully the AI will use the same rules as a human player just be smarter like playing sargon or a computer chess game. If that is the case I will play MP for a while before embarassing myself. :-)
