As far as I know I m the only "elite" who ever played this game All other just copied what I did, or use bad game design in their favour. Everyone not believing, can still write me a mail and challenge me I know he has added similes and this was meant in a joking way, and i wouldn’t say he is the "only" elite, but i would say he is in a very small group of “elites”. This begs the question, what is an “elite”? well in my book, and this is just my opinion, an elite is someone that picks up a game extremely quickly and basically invents strategies that everyone uses. When the game first game out, everyone was trying to out think each other. What to build first? how many workers? Is slaving worth-while? What is a sensible rate of expansion? Shall i choke? Shall i sit back? What shall i do with my workers? etc. During this period of time, the game was very fresh and exciting, nothing was routine, every game involved thinking and learning...and during this, 5 month period, IMO he was alot better then the rest of the ladder. Sure everyone else has got alot better but this is after 19 months of practice and in some cases, literally 19 months. After this much time, you can move your units without even thinking, and the build order and rate of expansion is routine to say the least. As i said before i wouldn’t say he is the only “elite”, but hes in a bracket of say 5 players. Just my thoughts, based on my definition of an “elite”.

What shall i do with my workers? etc. It sounds like you have all this figured out already. Do you care to answer these questions: For "Classic" start: What to build first? how many workers? Is slaving worth-while? What is a sensible rate of expansion? Shall i choke? Shall i sit back? What shall i do with my workers? Again, for classic era.

I wish I was around for this. This is why I really don’t like strategy guides and such things, it really teaches people to play like sheep and not think quick on their feet. I dont really like being able to see into a teammates city either(line of sight is fine, but why do others need to know build orders etc?), people don’t realize its counter productive, and reduces game longevity for the individual. I can honestly say 95% of the stuff i know i have learnt myself. So to answer you question CV ... give those questions some thought try some new stuff out and eventually you come to a answer that works for you. IMO anyway!!

Learning from other players is important. I have played online and know for fact many players are faster than me. For early production, the rules are simple, more workers, chop, whip, mines, ... , but some people just excecute them better than other.

when i started playing this game i didnt know what a cottage or slavery was. its only by asking what things do and why u really find things out. that or clicking the wrong button and watching a size 5 city change into a size 2 with a warrior waving at u. now i know what the red button does, what do cottages do and how do u make them?

Are you really sure about that iron? ;D
The biggest mistake ppl in general do is that they buy a new game they never played before, play 1-2 games in SP and then go to MP asap. Then of course you will lack knowledge about game concept and will be crushed by expert MP users.
Sure, somethings you wont learn from SP, but atleast 75% of the basics you need to pick up for yourself. 20% you will learn from experiance and 5% you will never learn becuase you can always get better ;D
