tbh i dont think tht making a limit on how many ladder games you can play each other is gonna make a difference. if ppl want to play with other ppl they will pw the game and play non ladder.
i agree it is frustrating when you start out and not being given pw for teams when you want to play. i had to wait months before i got to know ppl, learnt the way to play ( supposidly ) and was recognised as a half decent player. <-- (dury still out on tht!!) its very dis-heartening some times when u see 9/10 in a ladder teamer, not a player in sight and u still cant get in.( i know ive been there) But i can assure you in my experince everyone goes through this until they have been around for a bit.
unfortunatly in this game in the teamer aspect if u have a weak link it can end the game before it is started. in fasted pace games u dont have time to watch and throw advice every minute, its just not possible.
i understand how it looks and agree when i pw teamers i generally play with ppl i know, but if i dnt pw i will not kick anyone out..... except ulla whole stole my land.
its a tough subject that does keep arising but at the end of the day if people want a private game nobody who is not invited will get in, ladder or non ladder. this is nothing to do with rank im sure, its just the standard of the game the ppl want. its not personally directed at anyone from my point of view or intended to offend.
teamer anyone?

Go play a cton --
1. An idiot who has no idea how to play Civ doesn't ruin the game for you.
2. You don't have to follow anyone's orders but your own.
3. If you want to try a new strategy no one will try to get you to conform to what they think is right.
4. No one will ping you to death.
5. You won't have a teammate who absolutely refuses to follow the team plan.
6. Nobody will demand that you send them units, workers, or settlers.
7. You don't have to watch someone who is utterly clueless attempt to play the game.
8. Any reports you earn are your own, and any you have to give out are your own fault.
...
Teamers on blazing are a waste of time. There is no time to analyze, communicate, and formulate a team plan. Heck, a lot of people don't even have time to move all of their own units, let alone offer advice or think ahead! It's 5 players playing ctons vs. 5 players playing ctons. In the quest for faster games, teamers have become quite one dimensional and unfun.

This issue comes back over and over again and it is the time to systematically address this issue. Both sides have their own points, the question is really how to avoid conflicts of interest from both sides. I do not think this is hard to resolve. First of all, the problem is: (1) Elites do not want newbies, a very valid concern. (2) Newbies do not want to be kicked out a game, an equally valid concern. Both sides are rights: Ladder cannot survive without new blood (newbies); ladder games are not interesting if the games are stupid. Personally, I think a simple protocol will resolve this conflict really easy; but I would rather leave the protocol to others.

prettyhatemachine you noob, i subbed in the game killed your teammate and that means you have to report to me. If you want it or not. And im not going to email you cause i write down 30 names every week of ppl that dont report and im not gonna send emails to all of them, i file in unreported matches and thats it. I dont burden myself with additional work for ppl that dont report. And yeah, just dont report to me Canuck will do that

This thread addresses a few problems.
1) Elitism is a bit out of control.
2) Non-Reporting is a bit out of control.
3) Making moutains out of mole hills is alive and thriving.
My opinion on elitism is that its the single biggest threat to this ladder. Running off new players will NOT sustain this ladder as some veterans WILL drop out and there won't be any NEW BLOOD around to take their place.
That does NOT mean you should be prohibited from hosting games with the people you want to play with. I would suggest the following, however, that the host dictates who should be allowed in his game. Once you INVITE a player into your game, you should honor that commitment and absolutely NOT boot that player because someone 'better' came along. If any player in your game demands that 'so and so' be kicked so their buddy 'so and so' could join, you should immediately boot the player that demanded the boot and let his buddy in. If you are host and someone in your game gives your password out without permission, you should boot the player that gave your password out, and let the person he invited stay and play.
If you host a NON-PASSWORDED game, you should definitely allow any qualified (ladder member in good-standing) player to join your game.
Lately have you noticed that some ELITE players demand every worker, settler and unit you make be sent to them. Hysterical!
NON REPORTS and CHRONIC LATE REPORTS
The second biggest threat to this ladder is the chronic non and late reporters. It takes 30 seconds to do it and more importantly ITS THE RULE. Ladder matches are to be reported IMMEDIATELY after the match. IN certain circumstances you have 24 hours to report, but that is the EXCEPTION and not the rule. REPORT after the match, REPORT AFTER THE MATCH, and did I mention REPORT PROMPTLY AFTER THE MATCH. The rules PROHIBIT you from starting another ladder match BEFORE reporting that match. This needs to be treated as seriously as non-reporters. Any player caught starting another ladder match before reporting losses needs to be SUSPENDED just like a non-reporter. NO its is NOT ok to save your losses up and report all at once.
Penalties NNED to be increased and enforced for non reports and chronic late reporters, up to and including LONG SUSPENSIONS from ladder play.
QUITTING Teamers and Subs
If you quit a ladder game for any reason, you MUST report to all. Asking for a sub or even having a sub does NOT excuse you from this obligation. If you quit that teamer, even if you find a sub, IMMEDIATELY report to all in the game, end of story. When you quit, you are trying to say that your time is more important or more valuable than anyone elses. That simply is NOT true. Subs can further imbalance games, cause or lead to delays for the remaining players in the game, or can create a host of other problems.
You quit, you report, end of story! You quit, you don't report, then this is the same as NON-REPORTING and you should be suspended.

Allow me to clarify the origin of Satan's angst(first post).
TGS was the second player in the room. After the usual BS associated with starting a team game and lengthy wait (game flopping from 8 to 10 to 8 players) tgs was booted to make room for someone. Ironically this person did not remain and at least one more joined b4 game actually launched.
Enough of that...
Strangely enough the perception seems to be focused in another direction than the problem lies. Player want to say how magnificent they are, go for it. Lip service to display ones civ fortitude, great, go for it. Brag all day and night long, np. The problem is the way some carry on toward (most) others.
Bottom line, only a fool thinks yelling and being a jerk will get the desired results. There are obviously many fools out there, for some reason they seem to be called 'elite' players.
IMO most of the better(and best) keep to themselves. Offer insight and demonstrate leadership traits through subtle ways and get results. I notice that NONE of the ones I am thinking of have posted ill here. They need not, they know how to get things done without being a fool and a jerk while doing so.

u ullan00b.
someone answer to rules. either u have to email people before file in non-triplicate or not? all this works is making for a cranky pretty but sure as nuts not doing it if i dont have to. so if i dont have to do then fair enough one report for ullan00b coming up with compliments. if i do gotta do though then ullan00b can blow me for skimping out on my christmas card which is also fair since my christmas is spent at the office emailing every n00b like mcscrooge. so get to work chunky.
and wot of subs rule? so ullan00b subbed it turns out which why i dont have ss of it. ullan00b amazing as it is wos betta then the first n00b. so wot i gotta report two people now just cos one is a bum.
and i got third question. kc good goes and retires on cton i start yesterday turn 2. then lupus says screw this and quits. then everyone says scrap meanwhile i got uber land and am crying rivers of blood. kc says he never retired but i have ss that says message of him retiring. so who is to blame for my wasted land? this quitting at start of cton thing seems prity common. i want to report kc and lupus for robbing me and report everyone else in the whole cton for scrapping it cos i had it won from moment i got my uber start.
and can i get a tylanol. alls i wanted with this restart is my stat set back to where it was at 80% before i stopped nonreporting so i dont gots ta get n00bed out of any more games. can i just get someone to set it at 80 to never gotta file something ever again. k thx bye.

u know wot. i was confuse topic i think and miss point. to fix i have tip for you greatsatan. u say u are elite but it makes no difference cos every nutssac boots u anyway. then for u it makes no difference whether u have grand stats or stats in the floor cos u get booted either way. wots the diff.
wot u gotta do then is think outside the box and outside this boxheads. offer 3 reports to everyone who ever beats u everygame regardless. just start doing it making 3x reports to each winner. most peeple really like their stats so u will be like the high class hooker of civ4. everyone will be wanting a piece of your action. teamers will be "hey there's sates in lobby. n00bio out and bring lucy in." "hey beezlebub, how bouts join our teamer buddy"
hell even u could just start reporting 3x everyone regardless of whether u win or lose. i bet u will be the ladder prom queen in no time. once u got all their love and they r addicted to your free ride, then u reset your stats and stop giving up the goods but saying it. like humpy dogs they will be in the habit and it will be too late. they will all be satanists.
hope that helps!

make the "newbies" make the units while you expand carelessly, then when the time to attack comes let them do the job so u can blame them if it fails
