As of 11-11-05 how many CIV games have been played?
And is there a way of comparing c3c vs CIV given the same timeframe?
Would really like to see if this new game is more successful than its predecessor.

SPM posted in the civ3players forums that the civ4 ladder had 1300+ games while the civ3 ladder had 1000+ games.

SPM posted in the civ3players forums that the civ4 ladder had 1300+ games while the civ3 ladder had 1000+ games. Well the actual numbers are misleading; but it does show the balance ok. SPM counts the number of reports. That's not the same as the number of games. It is a valid comparison though to measure the CIV4 action against the C3C action.

Thats what I am trying to get at. SPM said 500 games were played as of Oct 30th, then said that they played another "almost 600 games" on Oct 31st. I find that hard to believe since if you look at the stats I show as of today only 4,170 REPORTS.
Now considering that it takes atleast 2 to play a game(lol many would argue that I know) thats at the MOST 2,088 games. I would venture a guess that most games have 4-6 people in them, say an average of 5, that makes it 834 games as of 11-11-05. Either spm misquoted and meant a "total" of 600 games on the 31st or there some misleading numbers out there.
I only see 200 people on the ladder that are ranked, and MANY of them have played only 1 game which leads me to believe that if there are more below them, that they too have played only 1 game as well.
I dont see how this game is supposed to be more popular than c3c considering that a game now averages 2-3 hours. I dont think youll see as many people invest that much time into a game on the net, well atleast THIS game on the net.

Well I can't say accurately how many "games" are played, but as of this post C4P has 1411 matches, and C3P has 1199 matches in the past 7 days. And CIV is less that two weeks old and C4P is still growing, so I'd say that CIV is a fairly popular game given that some parts of the world still can't buy CIV yet. There are 205 "ranked" players meaning they have won atleast one game, there are 726 unranked players. There are also approx 200 people waiting activation as Cases has a bug right now in sending out activation emails, but we are processing those manually. So I doubt just because a few ptw/C3C vets don't like CIV that that is going to make CIV a failure, but time will tell which one of us is right.

Since in a 1v1 game only the loser reports it would there for be at most 4170 games. The rest of themath to break that down to say all 5 or 6 person games I'll let you do if you want. A game now averages 2-3 hours, where have you been, C3C games lasted 3-4 hours and some much longer then that due to reloads form drops and such. Thank God for the Hotjoining now. DTA

Actually I know of at least four people who personally have refused to play untill the lobby is sorted out, I'm sure they're not alone, and I'm sure it will gradually become more popular than C3c by a wide margin once the annoyances are sorted out and with the advent of new mods, not that I care. If your anything like me you love the chance to play both games. Nothing in the CIV lobby ah there we go a future up in C3c and vice a versa. This is not necessarily an are you a cat person or a dog person situation.

You can check how many "matches reported" (games played) by going to the "Daily Results" button on both Civ3 and Civ4 Ladder sites.
Last night at approximately 10:00 Eastern Standard Time, Civ3 showed that 283 games had been played so far on Sunday.
The "Daily Results" section for Civ4 was unavailable (nothing happened when you pushed the button) so I couldn't see the totals there (today it is working fine so far.
This morning, the Civ3 Daily Results number had changed and showed only 264 matches/games reported (glitch I would think).
...........Civ3.....Civ4 sun......264.....264 sat.......223.....200 fri........167.....177 thu.......205.....152 wed..... 204.....190 tue.......189.....163 total....1252....1146

My number of games played is 0.
I've finally been able to get the game to run by doing the Radion unpack on Friday. Several times over the weekend I've tried to find a MP game. Everytime I fail to see any recognizable ladder players available. My buddy list has about 2 dozen entries and none are in the lobby. It seems like all those CIV4 ladder games are being played by new members. Where are the vets?

Using the top menu bar of the Lobby you can -
click games once and it changes the list to inverse alphabetical; a second time puts it in alphabetical order.
towards the far right, on the top menu bar you will see the "whited-out Civ Icon" - the games listed below that have that symbol are "games in progress" and you can't enter those. The games that DON'T have that whited-out symbol are available to join. you can also "click" on that civ icon in the top menu and put them in a different order - games being played on top of the list, click again and it's vice-versa.
Someone suggested here somewhere that "LADDER" games should be game-titled with "LADDER" as the first word of the game title (i.e. LADDER WHIPLASH) so that when it's in alphabetical order, all of the Ladder games appear in one place
Now..... how do you get to one? MUCHO DEXTERITY - click on game with your mouse tab - scroll and click on one further down (as fast as you can to prevent the list from bouncing back), repeat repeat repeat until you find the game you're looking for.
That's the only way I've found to manipulate the list of games - anyone got a better one?

After you have sorted the games list alphabetically, it's much easier to click on a game and then use the arrow keys and not the mouse.
People just don't hang out in the lobby for long right now Whip, mostly because it crashes to much, people enter the lobby, and enter there game as soon as possible. Right now vets are more likely to use there YIM list to find and organize games, I played for 3.5 hours on Sunday in my Epic game.

Im sorry Whip, since you dont play CIV MP your ability to post here will soon be revoked according to CS. Actually it has nothing to do with playing CIV, but you must be a member of Civ4players for the privilege of posting on Civ4players forums. But thanks for trying to twist my words to suit your needs.
