is there any strategic depth in team games?im interested in finding anyone claim he can implement his own strategy in a teamgame except for the commander. the most important reason is in team games technologies are shared, you dont need to plan from the beginning, all things you need to do is expand expand and expand while insuring safety, when to attack?when to expand?when to build oracle?when to devote to economy?how to modify your scheme according to terrains and resources?when to launch the final attack and kill? it should have been planned from the very beginning but i cant see such a necessity in team games.
but without strategy,if you have no strategy at all,how could you be an "elite player"?afterall,i think civ4 is a strategic game, not a game just showing pathetic skills.
im not meant to say all teamplayers noobs, just feel bad for those who are discriminated by some teamer newbies who think they r "elite"but dont even know how to play .i just want to tell them:even you do well in teamgames, which doesnt account for your deservation of being elite, you may still suck.duel is not the whole content of civ,but never blame others if you cant defeat him a 1vs1

Longhorn, I know were friends, but you always say that people do the same nuts and don't try to improve. I get sick of seeing these posts by you. You should seriously take a look in the mirror.

u guys dont think the players u called "elite" came from space and directly started to play passwrded games...do you? yeah i was a noob like everyone here when i started playng this game... i wanted to join those passworded teamers, sometimes i could get in-sometimes i couldnt even get a response from the host, and for those who wonder-i got booted from staging room too, but i knew i was a noob, i wasnt at the same level with those players i played with and i could understand why they were not wanting me in + i was not enjoying those games as well and suddenly i stopped demanding pw's for those games but i just kept on playing ctons and some easy teamers. after a while i understood i was ready for the games of those "big-asses" i started to ask for pw's again and no-surprise i did well in those games then became a so-called "elite" and a wanted and respected player of every teamer. now listen to me guys, u have two choices: -1st is crying like babies coz u cant get in those elitist teamers and opening threads like this...this is the easy way... -2nd is harder and requires a little self-knowledge and merit...u just need to accept you are a player below average and just dont try join the games which u think its level is higher than yours... you know who you are and what you are really capable of, do u really want to be the unwanted noob of the staging room even if u get in? or try for a while to become a guy who doesnt even need to ask for pw's and become a wanted guy of every teamer??? i have chosen the harder way folks, it wasn't really easy for me becoming dreddcool-one of the most successful players of this community, achieving n1 spot of ladder, winning a ccc, grabbing the most wins in whole ladder... and pls decide which way u want to follow now and think again before opening a thread like this next time every single post in this thread has been like the one above, (dont get offended dredd but this post is rather good and i picked it because it covers jsut about everything that everyone has said so far in this thread). This has nothing to do with the actual first psot of the thread by tgs. being kicked by the host for another better play while waiting a long time is just unacceptable. if anyone is to be kicked at least the last person that joined the game should be, in a polite way. getting booted( basically told to f**k off with no reason why) happens alot and these wankers that do it should grow up. if u let someone in the game dont kick them, it is your own fault, you let them in the game. It has nothing to do with being a noob and NOT getting into games, It is the problem of getting BOOTED from a game for someone ( in the hosts opinion) a bit better than them. please remain on subject here Mat

Crypto- this post had nothing to do with you or your play style. In fact it mentions NO individual or group. I really can't see why you felt the need to criticize me once again. Hope it makes you feel better about yourself.

yes matlowe, i can understand your point, but if satan opened this thread just for to complain about getting booted from a teamer, i wouldnt write all of those above (and i would totally agree with him on this) it's really not nice to boot someone from the staging room "if the host invited him", but he wrote down 5 articles about the "elite" players on his mind so he let the topic turn into an another conflict between so-called "elites" and others so i dont think i've gone out of subject here

crypto why do u gotta go off topic in the forums? who cares if i had old screennames? i sure dont and anyone who does can kiss my a**. i have had screennames before...who cares? and whoever really cares can step up and respond with a reason why they got a problem. and then i can cry about people knowing my old screenname...boohoo waaahh ...yeah right i dont care so i dont see why u bring it up here in a thread about being booted from games..... back to topic------being booted from games for sum1 else isnt totally acceptable unless they were not invited.

Its not like the true elitists have improved their game in the last 6 months. Its the exact same strategy with a little more 'I think I can walk on water' added. Maybe they have become a little more demanding of what they expect from you and a little more demeaning toward you. But thats the extent of their innovations and evolution. I didn't say you who you were talking to, but you know who you are.

Ithink its just that people want todo games with equal skills and with people thats been playing alot toghter.
I find it fun to play with my old school veterans "only" now and then, as much as i enjoy to play games with guys i never played with at all.
Every 3rd or 4th game, i try to play "open games" aswell to even play non-ladder players.
So, ithink the issue is that all wants good games, and now and then some gamers like to play teamers with same skill level.
But i also agree with longhorn in some parts, its not certain that the "elite skill" games is sure to be more fun, i´ve played just as many "lower skill" games thats been funny as i played funny elite games.
Finally its just a game as someone said, dont hang up on small things like this.

I have no problem with playing games with newer players, as frusturating as it is when you lose a city because the player behind you didnt send you his starting archer, or dies to a warrior more than once every 3-4 weeks (we all have that happen occasionally, do a miosmove, etc.)

Now there's a post that will promote new players to come to the ladder. As much as a pain as some new players can be, lets remember that we were all new players at one time(even MGT!) and that new players are our life blood here. And while you may legitimately not want them in your teamers right away, a little politeness can go along way, and good sportsmanship is supposed to be a prime quality of the ladder. Being rude to new players is just confirming in their minds that MP players are just ignorant and rude, and off they go back to poly and CFC and talk down our ladder....
CS
Edit: I posted this as DTA was reviewing MGT's post, my opinions on the subject of "we" are better than "them" stands. And MGT the next time you feel you have to spout drivel it will come with a vacation from these boards.
