Yeah i concur, pretty lifeless forum, i dont think people are just that excited about CIVVING, i play most days, although its alittle less now days. But just dont have the addiction/passion C3C did for me.
Alot of the old C3C players that were advocating CIV seem to have moved on, funnily enough some back to C3C.
Anyway back on topic, i think a nice simple ancient 2v2 would be nice, played on balanced map, or TBG. This would mean reasonally quick rounds, and would probally generate a high level of interest as most people know how to play ancient.

I think alot of it is to do with connection issues, not meeting the specs and the fact that I haven't posted in two days so no ones got anyone to moan at , there are way more people playing CIV than C3c trust me. That said I would be up for any tournament in any time period except classical.

I'm curious how Sedhi would know how many are playing each game.

That's a good question I'm going by my clans reports of numbers on both sides, so it's entirely anecdotal, they say there are a lot less games ladder wise on C3c than CIV & yes they do play both as did I untill recently. So I'm going by word of mouth, so if I'm wrong you'll have to excuse my sources. However I'm sure one of the admins could put up some figures?

No one is saying more people are not playing CIV more then C3C, in fact they are playing it 2-3 times as much. But C3C is 3 years old, yes 3 years, i personally havent touched it since i got CIV4. Thats because im bored of it, 3 years is more then long enough for any game IMO.
If my memory serves me correctly, there 900 barrier was broken on quite a few occasions, and lets face it C3C was very buggy and definatly not intended for MP. In terms of MP popularity i think its embrassing that it even being compared C3C (Although it is quite effectivly), it should be compared with modern MP games like AoE, and lobby numbers should be compared to measure MP success. I think youll find its wouldnt even be 2:1.
Im not saying 1 game is better then the other, thats in the eyes of the beholder. But im seeing alot of Civ fans turning there back on this, one must as why?

Actually this game has a huge fan base, but mostly in single player. A lot of people I know that play AoE, dont even want to try Civ4 because of the single-player impression they have of it. Also, in the first couple of weeks, it was impossible for some people to play Civ4 MP due to connectivity issues (like me), and I really was on the verge of giving up (it would take 3-6 hours to get a game). So basically, any one-time attempts by new people would have resulted in them never trying again, and I know one such person. The majority of those that stayed on have played Civ in the past, in fact I'd even say, have played Civ Multiplayer in the past (I for example didnt play C3C, but I played PTW).
But those that played the game for fun single-player, are addicted btw lol; including many first-time civvers.

Well a little birdie told me the patch is out soon, so maybe the fan base will increase. And forget about the single player snobs we all know where the best players are ;D

Well a little birdie told me the patch is out soon, so maybe the fan base will increase. And forget about the single player snobs we all know where the best players are ;D MMORPG clearly show that patches rarely bring people back even if these people left only because of the issues that are fixed in these patches (i.e. only minority returns). And they can't bring new people as well. Expansion can increase a multiplayer fanbase. Patches can't do it. I say we can also compare it to old MP games like Starcraft. 1/5 of the population of the South Korea played on the battle.net ;D

Alot of the old C3C players that were advocating CIV seem to have moved on, funnily enough some back to C3C. Yeah, where are all these beta-testers and strategy-guide-writers who were hyper-active promoting Civ 4 on forums about the time Civ 4 was released?

Yes I'm still here as well, but have been busy with inside testing and other problems. But I give everyone the power here to advertise the ladder in the lobby, you are all our best ammbassadors. I process approx 20 invites to Civ4 per day, and by far the biggest reason is that they are tired of poeple quiting in the open games and want a real challange, so lets leverage these strengths of ours and make the lobby the domain of C4P like C3P was at it's prime.
