Better way is topic - guidelines for new players in teamers. wot build first, tech tree , teamers rules (must listen captain) etc... This will be civilzationed way (as our game have name) for that.

Great idea! All lousy players should just all copycat the formulaic strategies of whoever happens to write up a page on the forums. Being able to think and learn for yourself is so 2005.

Having just fell off my chair from the realization that I actually agree with lestat on something.
Best way to kill a community, run off the noobs. Without noobs there is noone to replace players who leave for other games.
This far after the release of civ3 the ladder had total control of the lobby. 9 outta 10 games were ladder. This isn't the case for civ4 for a variety of reasons, and barely 1 outta 10 games is ladder.

I'll attribute the lack of players to the connection issue problem we had for months. That was a key period in solidifying the multi-player base of Civ IV. Took so long to correct that people probably moved on. Maybe more people will try out the multi-player with the expansion.....but that'll be an even smaller base that tries.
Do we truly want the ladder to have control of the lobby? My preference would be for an in-built ladder into the game with a stat tracker. Just a few of the basics you need for a mp game, in my opinion.

An automated ladder has to be very involved or it's useless, not to mention very difficult to be manipulated, C4P isn't perfect but we have humans at the helm that can fix things on the fly very easily. It would have been nice if we could have connected the game directly into the Cases database or some other community managed software(so that reports would be automatic)...but that didn't happen, which is all I can say on that topic. So I still think that the way we handle things is as good as we can get when dealing with human nature. But we are always looking for good ideas and suggestions ofcourse.
