I'll take that as a compliment, as I think you're sincere about learning things from these discussions.
I have to ask though, and maybe this is a topic for a different thread, but how do you define liberalism? I mean, I consider myself a conservative. See, throughout this thread, I've preached preservation. I've applauded energies that are more efficient, and less pollutive. I have made special emphasis to talk about the ones make sense financially. I applaud all the things done in order to conserve our resources and conserve our environment. Doesn't conservation fit into being a conservative?

–verb (used with object) 1. to prevent injury, decay, waste, or loss of: Conserve your strength for the race.
2. to use or manage (natural resources) wisely; preserve; save: Conserve the woodlands.

Both liberals and Conservatives have root principles that they draw on to form opinions. The word "Conservative" is just a label for someone who has "right" principles.
The principle I think is the most important is freedom. Freedom to choose what is best for you. Freedom to make the wrong choice. If I want to smoke a cigarette for example, knowing it will kill me, I have the right to make that choice.
Liberals do not support freedom. This is because they know best and want to impose there choices on the rest. If liberals think smoking is bad, they do everything they can to take that choice away. If they think SUVs are bad, they try to take away the choice. They don't like certain radio host, they try to take away the choice to lesson.
Liberals have a competing principle. The one that competes with freedom is entitlement. In a liberals mind, everyone should be totally equal. Weather you work or not, you are entitled to the same life. The more entitlements that are created, the less freedom there is. This is because others are dictating what you are entitled too. You also become dependent on those supplying the entitlements.
The next Conservative prinsable is Justice. Choices have consequences. If you do X amount of damage to person Y. Person Y should get X amount back from you.
The Liberals do not believe in justice. For they are above this. They believe that an eye for an eye leaves the hole world blind. The competing liberal prinsable for justice is tolerance. If some guy takes your eye, its cool, thats what he does, dont judge him. If a guy is trying to rob you, and he falls and hurts himself, he has every right to sue the people he was robbing.
Like I said, I could write a book on this. There are many more princable. Each side has 1 to match the other. I'll add more later.
ok ok to be fair, you must have a balance of both sides to be stable. For example, you can't have absolute justice because some cases call for tolerance. And to be free, you must be entitled to life, liberty and the persuit of happyness
