I was watching a film this evening(ALi G's film) and got to thinking what is it that makes people laugh, it's very cultural, theres no one great comedy program for all. So here's my top ten. Includes films and comedy series.
What makes you laugh your ass off, what doesn't and why?
1) The Life of Brian/holy grail etc
2) Little Britain
3) Ali g's series
4) Black Adder:series 1-4
5) anything by Richard Pryor, Eddie murphy, Bill Hicks or Dennis Leary combined no 2 - strong contender for the top spot - individualy they'd strip the pant's off most modern day comedy. Richard Pryor is the Godfather of American comedy.
6) The League of Gentleman
7) Cheers
8) Red Dwarf series 1-6
9) Fry and Laurie
10) fawlty Towers, would of put it number 5, but only one series, quality rather than quantity, but for sheer long term entertainent value others rate higher
Not making the top 10 are Kids in The Hall, unfortunately we don't get too much Canadian comedy so I haven't seen some of the fine comedians this country produces, when I do I'm very impressed:)
Also Frasier, Friends, Paul Merton's series, Bottom.
Of course there are many French, Italian, Spanish etc. etc. comedians sadly we don't get to see them.
I've probably forgotten half a dozen but they didn't make top 10.

What makes you laugh your ass off, what doesn't and why?? what doesn't and why?: The Life of Brianl etc BORIIIING... Ali g's series After 30mins I was like uhmm ok, is this how the movie is gonna continue for another hour? BORIIIING... The League of Gentleman The movie of uhmm same or almost same name. Only movie that has managed to make me fall asleep TWICE. Cheers 80's series = the suck! Among others I really despise series as Taggart, which is again an 80's series. And the worst movie of ALL TIME is Grease! DIE DIE DIE. Good series are: Frasier, some various danish ones and spin city (that paul guy cracks me up).

scrubs, most of simpsons, south park as far as tv shows are concerned; absurd, cynical&''political'' humour in general oh and, of french humour : Coluche (not hilarious, but constant smile), Desproges (cynical master), Lafesse (absurd, provocative improvisations in public, sort of 'hidden camera' show that would actually be funny)

I Hate BBC its not funny, it never is, and it just seem Fake, its like made up, and you can tell there acting.
Witch Makes it even less fun, even tho you know they are actors, atlest they need to be good, so it seems like real human Feelings

Well kinda thought a post like this would get more interest, but obviously no ones interested in what is funny. Just what is annoying, kinda explains humanity, focus on the bad stuff, ignore the good j/k

Hey sidhe. I finished watching the end of season 1 of Little britain just a few days ago and it really is getting repetitive, heh, I mean really old. The second season continues downhill I presume? The half is brilliant though - e'm the only gay in the village
Really like I'm Alan Partridge as well.

Hi idiot how's it going? Yeah well they can most of the characters that the jokes have been done to death on. New characters in the latest series are Ting Tong a Thai bride who is really a transexual. A rival for babs the naked lady, and even bigger naked black lady who wars with her for posession of her ex husband.
Sebastian is still there as is Mythanwe and Daffyd "I am the only gay in the village you know" The mindlessly bigotted old ladies are still in it. and an incontenent old lady. There's a new MP who comes clean alot with embarassing secrets to the press. And an incredibly anal neighbourhood watch guy. The two "Ladies" are still there and funnier than ever. Vicky pollard has gone! There is also a University secratary who manages to offend every minority on the planet throughout the series. ANd the delightfull"computer says nooooo" lady now has a ajob in the travel agents.
I love the guy in the book store: Am I being too specific
Well you are being a little too specific yes
well I'll take the whole shop then
ok that'll be 3400 pounds please ;D

The transexual tai bride sounds kinda neat but I kinda lost my interest in little britain there with hearing Vicky Pollard absence Early Daffyrd was my fave too, though he became really boring later on. The sketch when he decides he wants an aids test is vey good. What do you think about Coogans Alan Partridge, Sidhe?

fantastic do you mean I'm allan partridge or his radio show after he get's kicked off tv. The Radio series is better IMO.
I'm talking about the third series anyway, some of the old favourites are still around in the second.
Vicky pollard is brilliant, if your English you have met someone exactly like her in your life most likely more than once, brilliantly observed ;D
I like it when she gets the news from her Doctor that she's pregnant and he asks her if she wants to take someone with her to get the baby scanned:
Do you have anyone that might like to go with you.
No I'm not going anywhere with that slag.
Well how about a close relation.
Yeah that's what I said I aint going anywhere with my mum, she's a slag.
