Hi Oli, Most clans are elitist and have closed doors ;D but I think KC (Knights of Civilisation) is open to taking on new players. Message Canuck Soldier, he's a site admin so his contact details should be on the home page here. In fact he may well be along shortly .

Well I would agree that KC is not elitist, but we do have our own standards for admission. I recommend that you get a few ladder games under your belt and get out and meet the members of different clans. Most clans do want to see that your are capable of learning this game to a certain extent of your own. And you will also meet and learn what the different clans are like so you can decide what ones you would like to join or not. CS

Hm the thing is in a lot of games players join a new clan to learn the game from more experienced players. It doesn't really work like that in civ which, in a way, is a shame.

clans do not always provide the best training.....sometimes just getting in a teamer and asking for advice is the best thing to do....I have only recieved a few 1 on 1 sessions of training and i am very thankful for them (MGT).....Oli u get out there and maybe one of these nice gents will want to play a 2v2 to help trian u a bit and u can try out for a good clan....lots of good clans will accept u once u get a good rep and listen to advice ^^

Yes it is a shame that more clans don't want to put any energy into training new players. Speaking for my clan, we haven't recruited a lot of new players lately because our member turnover has generally been quite low. We've been able to keep pretty much the same group of players together now for nearly a year. With so much stability (knock on wood), we haven't had a lot of open spots to fill. In fact, the players who have decided to leave, in my opinion, left to become bigger pieces of the puzzle in other clans. However, we have always invited others to play Ladder games with us, and our TeamSpeak server has always been open to guests. We have always done our best to treat these guests with respect and tutor them as much as we can during the games we are playing together. In this regard, we are putting a lot of energy in helping newer or less experienced players better learn the game of Civ. Finally, with so many teamers being played using the Blazing Turn Timer, it has become truly impossible to try to teach anyone how to play. With this setting, many players do not have enough time to finish their own turns, let alone examine someone else's civ and offer tips or advice. I understand the desire for faster games, but dumbing down strategy and teamwork is too high a price to pay.

Oli, just playing ladder teamers will do a number of things for you in this direction. 1-You will meet players from clans (you may not know it though-not everyone has a clan tag even though they are in a clan) 2- Your play will develop and you will get better- thus making you more desirable for recruiting into a clan. 3- You will learn more about team play. Good Luck! Mookie is correct, just about anybody can come on the RaY teamspeak, and those that are friendly and adhere to TS decorum can come back . Sorry for the semi off-topic Finally, with so many teamers being played using the Blazing Turn Timer, it has become truly impossible to try to teach anyone how to play. Blazing timer makes teaching anything in game impossible and lowers the level of everyone's play.
