I was wondering if there would be any way to play without everyone knowing you who are, lol. Like an alternate name, reports to which go to your ladder name or something.
Its just I get tired of playing ctons with newbs sometimes when EVERYONE attacks you. Once you become known as being in the top 20 or so, it happens a lot. And you see armies bypass closer civs to get you, gets really annoying. I don't want to be one of those guys that just plays 1v1 or teamers, I like ctons with all kinds of people, but lately playing a cton with newbs is like fighting a 5v1 war.

Hehe that's not a bad idea in principle. But staying in the top twenty IMO is more important than getting there. Which is pretty much a matter of who you play with and how often. I'll attack you every game anyway Dragon, but then you do point race too much so you kinda make yourself a target The person with top score is a target, you might as well paint a big target on your civ and say come attack me, are you sure it's not just this? Look at the person with top score look at the demographics, 9 times out of ten the weakest army is with the person with top score, which means I'll bypass lower scoring civs than me to kick 'em; that's just strategy.

You both speak the truth. It is harder to stay there than get there, and even on Inland have seen some players move 20+ troops through 3 civs only to attack sum1 in the top ranks. Now the first point is legit and most there deserve to be there but IMHO the latter is a violation of the rules, in that though they travel so far to reach your land they come with a nice stack, meaning that some coordination had taken place.

I point race too much? In case you hadn't noticed, on Cton maps 99 out of a 100 times it comes down to points in the end, never kill everyone.
But I was not talking about attacking the top point guy, that is a given, especially towards the end. I mean when half the people on a map only attack you from the start. Even had some say they don't care if they take second to last, as long as they can kill me so they get that report.

That is the case with city raising probably the suckiest setting, since sucky settings were invented IMO. It's who's got the best land pop out a few wonders, then sit back and let your brain turn to mush in a cton. This setting is for ffa IMO not for ctons. I fail to see the fun in a by the numbers what land have I got and how quickly can I pop out my settlers and wonders. Once players get savy to the little tricks of the trade, I'm hoping ctons with city raising become a thing of the past because it'll be a roll of the die scenario, might as well set an 80 turn build queue and return to move your settlers into position and position your units occasionaly. Don't attack anyone till turn 70, then kill someone at the end or not doesn't really matter. yawn I point race too much? In case you hadn't noticed, on Cton maps 99 out of a 100 times it comes down to points in the end, never kill everyone. But I was not talking about attacking the top point guy, that is a given, especially towards the end. I mean when half the people on a map only attack you from the start. Even had some say they don't care if they take second to last, as long as they can kill me so they get that report. That sucks indeed. I just kill people point racing personally out of hand. two easy kills, so I lose. Better than watching the timer slowly tick down as you build more and more settlers/wonders etc

hehe, then we're agreed, I don't have a high rank in case you haven't noticed atm, I have a rather poor losing streak, but can report my 12 game no resource no good land fest is over, just played one game, had good land no early resource, who cares, good land, ok average land, but to me it looked like Eden:) not a single desert or jungle square, ah Voodoo works

High ranks get attacked alot? Get used to it, it is defending that and testing the limits that will bring your play to also become champion. Good Luck

Yes, anonymous play in ctons, that's what I've been thinking. Instead of listing people's names, only list them as "player 1, player 2, player 3" or by color "blue green white etc", and make absolutely no contact between players except via all chat.

One point you folks all seem to be missing is the posibility of players being impostered. Also I don't think the system would allow for x number of player1's and so forth to be present in the lobby at the same time.

anyways alotta people in ctons are not that rgeat if u survive early even if they send 3 stacks at u should survive... i jsut find surviving early the diffucliut part and as of yesterday i thought of my own start to help slove that problem for myslef also in civ3 i was once in lead of a civ3 game with 8 player cton and i fought in the last 20 turns 5 stacks form diff civs at diff times... though i still didnt win in points after those grueling 20 turns dropped down to 3rd .
