I was just discussing with some people a few simple options the devs could add to the game in order to facilitate multiplayer
1) Player Chooses to Raze or Not - In games with a city elimination setting, usually 1 or 2, you can either always raze the cities or never raze. Giving us the option to let the player choose, like you can in normal singleplayer, would be very nice.
2) No Unique Units - Lets face it, some civs have flat out hideously unbalanced unique units. As a result these civs see a LOT of play and it makes people hesitate to let you choose your own civs. Give us an option where everyone uses the normal, so we can pick the traits we want without worrying about UU. It would be just an option, but I suspect it would be a popular one. You might actually see America and Germany played occasionally:)
3) Balanced Resources - Give every map an option to balance resources like the balanced map does. Playing balanced all the time is boring, and other maps have lots to offer, but the resource distribution can be nasty. I once played a game of Inland Sea where I explored literally 1/3 of a standard sized map and there was no copper, iron, or horses. Not a lot of fun. So give us an option to balance out resources on every map.
I am not an expert on coding, but I imagine the first and second would be very very easy to implement. As for the third, you could probably use the strategic resource distribution model from balanced as an option on the other maps, not sure how hard that would be to implement.
