i dont think any ladder system would provide accurate rankings because of the way civ games are played
weak players can relatively easily get wins against top players - due to cton and team games
therefore, however u rank people, it will always have failings

Not true Sidhe.
Tommys highest streak: +60. Highest Skill: 2130. Ranks played Higher: 7.5%
Yumpak highest streak: +115. Highest Skill: 2108. Ranks played Higher: 27%
Yumpaks highest skill rating is almost same as Tommy.
I can tell you that in that +60, almost all the players he played had good skill.
Atm, Yumpak has highest skill rating in game. Does that make you happier Sidhe?
I personally dont like the "Skill Rating", as it is meaningless. Currently, Tommys skill is at 1746, cuz he just got beat by Red and some others. Many unknowns have higher skill than that. Does that mean they are better than him? On the other hand, the ranking system is very good. Red is 1, tommy 2, ebd 3, loaded 4, ironclad 5, islandia 6, tricky 7, eiffel 8, civerdan 9, willburn 10. Other than tricky (never played him), I think the current ranks are well represented and "meaningful". Thankfully, at the end of the day, ranks are based on ladder concept, not this wierd "skill" rating.
I would therefore support Cases ladder, and I think the simple ladder concept has been implemented effectively.

Well i disagree, ladder ranking is dependant on who you play and how often, If had regular play with tommy or Red or whoever in the top 10 I would be in the top 10 in no time and I would stay there it's as simple as that. It's not how good you are it's who you play. Ok the number 1 means a little more but the rest pretty meaningless. I haven't played anyone ranked above about 50 in the past month and my rank sucks that and a two week sabbatical. Frankly I think the longer you play and the more people reset there stats the less meaningfull ladder stats become. Never taken much notice of them nor does anyone who played for more than a year on c3c ladder. Just don't mean jack really unless a) you never reset your stats, Yumpaks win percentage is mostly because he can't get to play the higher ranked players. Look at his rank? Same with most players outside the top 100. Either they don't play a lot or they don't get to play with the timezone that has the most players from the top 10. Believe me these threads would pop up every few months on the C3c forums, sooner or later everyone had run through what is wrong with every stat and why cases sucks for civ. And everyone came to the conclusion that untill a better ladder or a benevolent computer programmer comes a long and programmes a better one then we'll just have to be jealous of the French league and it's equitable and fair system. ;D Cases is inadequate it's hardly a minority opinion or a contreversial one either just about everyone knows this.

yeah but he's not playing the best because he's in the wrong time zone, do you see what I mean? I don't doubt Yumpak isn't a good player all I'm saying is that anyone who was anyone in c3c knows how little value there is in ladder Rank/skill/win percentage because of the way games are valued. The only skill system I see that actually reflects skill is the French league but 'til we get someone who's willing to design a decent ranking system we're stuck with this pile I'm afraid. Yeah I got kicked off the forum and ladder for a couple of weeks do you remember you said it was an incoherent rant and was no way to go out. Kicking and screaming was a better way

to answer the question on why not to wirte a ladder system into this forum. This forum, like Case's system is a free service. There is only so much that can be done with it. We don't have access to the server side on either system, which would be needed to really do what CIVfr has done.
