No router, no firewall, no virus software, no ctd's from the lobby; and I can't connect. I can run CIV SP just fine. I can host in C3C as well as anyone. I never lag in C3C. I never drop in C3c; and I can't connect. My comp is above "Recommended System Requirements". I am on a solid cable connection. And I can't connect. I've tried everything short of witchcraft, and can't connect. If I try to join a game from the lobby, 90% of the time I can't connect to the setup room. In the 10% of attempts where I do get in the setup room, I fail to join after launch. Anybody? Ok Trayk, here's your chance to slam me again.

Someday Whip I think you should let CS or someone you maybe trust more look into your computer by remote or some such. Also please turn on logging in your ini and you know where to send files. If not send them to the email you have for me, and I will see that Firaxis gets them. I know that you were once a reliable host and since you have upgraded so see no reason for you not getting into games.. I think that maybe allowing CS into your maching remotely will truly help your situation. I am sure you are finally getting tired of Future games in c3c land. Hope you can get in CIV games soon.

Would logging show anything if I never connect? I'd be happy to allow CS to do an anal exam. ;D

Yes whip, logging would show something if you never connect. It would show the attempt to connect and may lead them to where exactly it stops working at. It records each step as it is initiated. So it would tell them which step in the connection process that it is quitting on.
Also allowing someone else, like CS, to look at your system remotely may help. They may see something that you overlooked.

Well whip, I know that it's no consolation, but EVERYONE the last two nights have had GREAT difficulty in connecting.
All of it can't be ALL our fault.

I am far from any kind of a computer expert. I flip a switch and if it dont work I am screwed...however if I were you I would do the following and this is more problem solving than computerese First I would determine if the mp files on the game disc are ok and i would do that by taking it to another computer.. friend or relative load it up and see if I can get it working there. If it works then you know its either your computer or internet connection... I guess what I am saying is I would systematically go through the process and see where it failed. If the disc works somewhere else...borrow a computer for a night. I think you get the drift and good luck whip

Whip I posted this on Franky as well but what is the make and model of your motherboard? I will look it up and find out what it uses to connect to the net. Your problem if fixed could solve many others problems as well.. I look forward to your continued support.

Motherboard is Intel D845GEBV2 with a Pentium4, 2.6 Ghz, Front Side Bus Frequency = 400Mhz, L2 Cache at 512 KB. Connection for cable modem is direct to USB port. No network card, no router.

any chance you don't have an "authentic" windows version?
(I really don't think it could be your motherboard, you'd have seen reflections of that in C3 - you were/are still a TOP very stable host there with no problems ever)
But these C4 probs, they go back to when you TRIED to beta-test but couldn't, right?

Connecting to people sometimes is very hard and none of the recommendations make it easier. This will need to be fixed in the next patch. Sometimes I play and somewhere in the middle of the game say I CTD or freeze and need to hotjoin. Tough luck I can't. And people just assume I didn't return and continue playing. That's silly. Either fix it, or ask someone from the game to go to lobby and check that the drop players is or is not there, trying to reconnect but not able to... Until connection problems are fixed (I am sure it's a game issue, not connection issues, because too many people have them) going back to lobby to check on a disconnected player needs to be made the rule.
