I can't create an account in Gamespy for Civ4. Is there anyone else having the same problem or is it just me?
When I attempted to go into multiplayer it asked me to create an account in Gamespy enter email address, select name, and enter a password (twice). I did that 3 times and always got the same message, "unable to create account".
What's the story and why hasn't anyone posted any feedback on the game in general?

Worked for me. Maybe someone has your screen name already. I was worried about that so the bfirst thing I did was go create my online account.

Yes try a slightly different name, unfortunately the ingame interface doesn't tell you why it failed. The CIV lobby operates under a special "Take2 namespace" that is separate from other games player database, this was done so that you can have names that exist in other lobbies and not conflict with them, so if you were beat to your prefered name there's not much you can do but change yours a bit.

Let's see, I verified my name at gamespyid.com and tried to enter under that name and get "the user name you entered is not valid".
That was after I attempted to create an account for:
jumanjiiii,, abcdefg, forgodssake, and jumanjidude.
I can certainly get to Civ 3 without a problem with my Civ3 name but can't get to Civ4 with my Civ3 name or by creating a new one.

I had the same problem yesterday and Islonian told me a work around to it. Now I can access lobby without problem, maybe it works with you too. When the screen tells you to log in or to create a new user account, then create a new user account but use all data (gs-id, email and pw) like the one that your current gs-account has. Then I got a message that the login attempt has failed or any such message. After restarting the game I logged in with my user-id and pw that gs refused before and voila, it works. Hope that helps Rhyanon

The other problem maybe that if your GS account is Gold or above the CIV database can't use that because it belongs to the premium users database, I know I have never been able to use my gold account ID in CIV.

Never even saw where to access the GS lobby for Civ4. I was never even prompted for anything related to Gamespy. Where do I need to go and what do I need to do to get there? Gamespy lobby that is.

Don't expect it to run smoothly. PTW didnt at first. Neither did C3C. Patches will come sooner or later.

Well I don't know who "everyone" is...because the lobby has been packed for the last two nights, so my believe is that all the problems we hear about are from 5% of the players and we don't hear from the 95% that the game works fine for. Whoever everyone is, they're nuts... played 12, 13 games in the last four days, none with the slightest problem. ::shrug:: Come join the fun.

That's half the problem with all computer software, we expect it to be bad & let them get a way with it. They should be bound by the same rules as all other products, if I buy an apple & find it full of bugs ...

Just be thankful Civ has never been published by Sierra. I swear they never beta tested. You bought the game and were the beta testers.

At this point I kinda wish I had signed up for beta testing. I would guarentee you would have heard a completely different story about the content of this game than what has been presented to us currently.
I think it was Whip that said that we have been sold eye candy, I agree.

Perhaps my inability to ever get the Beta releases running hence my not participating in the playtesting was a tipoff to a problem.
I have more than the "Recommended System" (2.6Ghz, as compared to the "recommended 1.8GHz) yet I can not run a map larger than tiny. Pity the soul with the "Minimum System" who shells out the $50 in anticipation of playing the great game of CIV.
I think that the "eye candy" is largely responsible for the need for the big muscle hardware. I don't care about the "eye candy"; but it forces me to buy another 512 of RAM. The poor soul with the "Minimum System" needs to upgrade the CPU, RAM, and Graphics Card.
I call this FRAUD. If you think this is a bit harsh; Dictionary.com defines that word as follows:
"A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain."
They are selling something which is not as described on the box.

Well maybe Take2 did not list every tested and proven compatable video card and the working drivers on the box....but what company does? I don't think this means they are a fraud at all.
They did state the requirements for video cards, the fact that the average Joe doesn't know anything about there computer hardware is not really there problem. It's always been our own Fan sights that have sorted our own communities out and this will continue. I'll be glad to help anyone with there hardware/software issues, and recommend some good replacement hardware as required.

My video card is 2 1/2 generations better than what they list in the "minimum System Requirements" they say "64 MB Video Card w/ Hardware T&L (GeForce 2/Radeon 7500 or better)"
Do you really expect this game will run with that card and a 1.2 GHz CPU and 256 RAM?
If not, it is FRAUD

civ4 isnt playable (or very slowly) on my athlon@2,1ghz, 512mb ram, Gforce 128mb... even duel maps are running too slow.. I can hardly believe that anyone with minimal requirements will be able to play that, not even with recommended hardware. at least I didnt have all the installation/ati/dvd reader issues that seem to be frequent...
methink the game was released in quite a hurry...

Sounds like you need newer drivers and/or follow some of my thread on reducing the graphics settings.
