I don't know about you guys, but sometimes you get stuck with a bad team and in order to deal with a bad team you need a decent civ. There's nothing worse than being on the unlucky side of the RNG.... Frederick FTW!! This may sound complicated, but one of the issues with banning ancient civs, for example, is that you lose good traits like agg, exp. So what if we turned on unrestricted leaders and chose any civ and leader combo we wanted EXCEPT for the banned ones, like no zulu, no mali, no persia, no gyp, etc. So if you wanted to be Shaka of Khmer or something.... Then maybe the next step would be to actually pick teams... ;D

its not a ladder Rule to be random is it? Just Host what ever type of teamer cton OCC you like to play im sure people will come if they dont like it tough boot them from staging agree to a degree with teamers but part of the fun in a cton can be seeing what wonderfull Civ or Bad Civ you get gifted with and managing to your best or worst in my case to cope with what you are given

Down with Random/Shuffle!!!!! That is for the lazy and inevitably results in me being able to pick the winning team before I have even founded my capital. Then maybe the next step would be to actually pick teams... ;D Nothing complicated about it if you have an IQ higher than room temperature. You could even make it simpler by say allowing people to take any leader, but everyone has to play as Spain or India for their civ. Thus eliminating Zulu/Impi, Perisa/Immortals, etc

I think the ladder will change with the new ladder reporting and seperate statistics. I'm hoping there will be more options when it comes to game styles, eg more ctons, (which have almost become extinct) and maybe more epic games.
With the seperate stats for different types of games people will want to show they are good all round players and not just getting rank and skill from piggy backing good players in teamers.
My experience of playing civfr and BF is that the ladder players are much more friendly because the whole reporting when you lose thing doesnt exist. There is never a discussion about not reporting a game from a week ago with these leagues.
So im hoping that ladder players will have less reason to bitch with each other and will do different game styles. Maybe just wishful thinking.

From what I've gathered about the Random/Shuffle teamers:
1. They are usually relatively quick. The average length of a game is between an hour and an hour and a half. This is in contrast to the 3-6 hour games that we had when Civ 4 first hit the streets.
2. The Cases' Ladder ranking system does not work well for Civ, hence the new ladder we'll be getting soon. Captaining is usually a bargaining process which could take anywhere from 5-15 min on top of picking the game settings if the host has no idea as to what era they want to play.
3. Back to #2, picking settings can eat up quite a bit of time and some players who don't have the patience for it may leave during the decision making process thus lengthening the time spent in the staging room.
4. Back to #2. It is difficult to judge a player when players create new ladder accounts instead of just renaming their old ones. The stats tend to be inaccurate, so if you don't know a player or what handle an alias used the results of captaining would be skewed anyhow.
5. Indifference. Some people are just here to play a casual pick-up game. They just don't have the time to get involved in a clan due to their responsibilities outside of the game.
There's a slew of other reasons, but I think the time factor probably plays the biggest reason as to the proliferation of the Random/Shuffle teamers. There's nothing wrong with them, it's just that there's a lack of other game types.
Maybe if the new site could later incorporate some type of calendar/clan matchup page to where clans could arrange challenge against each other there would be less objection to random/shuffle teamers?
After getting spanked real hard in this last CCC, RaY could use a few clan vs. clan matches.

Well clans in general are more formal in the new league, but as of now we don't have a formal clan challenge system, but feel free to post suggestions in the new leagues forums and we can look at things like that after we have the basic Clan/CCC code done.
I would probably be best to start posting there instead of here as at the end of this week I'll be making this forum read only.
