NumberOneMercury: you sound like caesar Chucky_Norris: dude Question: Chuk, did you say 'dude' naturally or to emphasize how much you do sound like caesar1? MGT- Question: 1) since when are holka and or dog's resource dependant UU's ? 2)Why are you even posting as is obvious you no longer play the game? 3) Lose your blackberry?

Poor chuck was unlucky it seems. Actually I have seen several cases where there is almost no resource on mirror maps. If there was horse in middle, I suppose it is possible to spam archers and escort a settler to the horse and build on it. Archers are a moderate counter to doggies, considering their price IMO. Anyway don't whine to much Chuck.. that's life You were disadvantaged, but that should't justify a loss. Would be interesting if NOM replayed on same map with reversed civs and still won hehe (or just play a new game and win to stop his whining )

When people pick resource dependent civs in a mirror game and cry that they lost because they didn't have the resource I usually will take the win I got from them and let them wallow in loss of pride. The reason for this is that the player fully understands that if they get a given resource they have an advantage and lack of a or any resources will put them at a disadvantage. I used to play maya because I don't like to gamble like that, but if you do like to gamble and are unable to accept the consequences than you don't deserve a second game. thumb up

oh well - i ll stay on topic (and i sad that and dd and aoe are mentioned as 1-1 experts not me ) 1-1 with evenly top skilled players is a bit of a gamble, espacially the civ picking part for example 1 pick egypt the other 1 zulu - as map is RANDOM (RANDOM ISNT FAIR!) and there is no horse but copper close to caps the zulu guy ll have a huge advantage even when map is random, on other hand with horse in cap and no copper/Iron on map zulu ll have a very slim chance to win. bit same with some1 picking maja/mansa - if no res close to cap/on map they ll have some advantage but with res close to caps their uu get useless and better traits/uu of other civs ll give the other player a advantage. so all in all - picking maya is a "save" choise - picking a res dependant civ is a bit of gamble - so sure u could say if it was other way round i d have won - but thats wrong. pick same civ as opponent and then at least the civ part ll be even - otherway it s just a gamble(but a fair one)

mirror duel is not a good map for 1vs1 the best map setting for an 1vs1 :
mirror tiny low sea temperate climate no city elimination 140turns or more
it's very fair, not resource dependent and requires an all-sided mastery of the game.choose any civ u want, create your unique strategy, wonderful.

Like Tommy has explained, game cannot be fully balanced if both players has different civ.
I'm not saying that pick same leader is a good choice, but if you only care about equality, it's the best choice.
The main drawback(in my view) is that it kill a bit the fun. It's exciting to discover the choice of your adversary. You need to play with your civ and your field. Sure, you could argue about that, but at least I think everybody can understand it.
