Hello there. I had been playing Civilization IV for long and I wanted to do something new. So I decided to try and join this Ladder game I was always seeing in Multi-player, and here I am. There are four questions I'd like answered: 1. Do I have to log on to some special account to play a ladder game and get points or whatever it's called, or do I just log on to multi-player and just join a Ladder game? 2. My name on GameSpy is Viking-Shaman, and my name here is vikingshaman (no "-"). Do I have to log on with vikingshaman on GameSpy to be able to play a ladder game and get points (or whatever it's called) 3. Do I have to know any people to play a ladder game, join a clan or something? 4. Is www.myleague.com/civ4players and www.civ4players.com the same thing? I had to register on myleague once and then on civ4players once. Is it not the same site? All help appreciated.

Youre name in the game must match youre name on the ladder www.myleague.com/civ4players read the rules section after a ladder game is finished you and youre opponents in the game report losses to all the players above them in points at the end of the game if someone gets killed in the game they report losses to all that are still in the game to report a loss go to www.myleague.com/civ4players and click the report loss link in the left frame the only ladder site for this league is www.myleague.com/civ4players all the others are mere imitations usually run by idiots

That I don't really understand. "Report losses to all the players above them in points" If they're ahead of you in points, why report their losses? Thanks for all the tips, by the way. They were helpful I think I can go play my first ladder game now.. ;D

The way Cases Myleague works is that we don't report our wins, we report our losses to other players that beat us. So if you are in a FFA/cton and you finish in 5th place in points, you goto the C4P web page and report that you lost to players that finished 1-4.

hi vikingshaman, first of all welcome to the ladder, i hope you enjoy your experience. now to your questions: 1. & 2. there is no need for a special account, just log in to gamespy with your existing account and join any ladder game once you registered. the only thing you should be aware of is that your gamespy account name needs to be identical to your ladder name, keep that in mind when you register - if you already signed up with a different name, just ask an admin to rename your account to match your gs id since only one account per player is allowed. 3. there is no need to join any clan, neither you have to know every ladder member. just join a game in lobby (ppl will check if you are a registered member), let me suggest to start with cton style games (basically a FFA with always war, no tech trading, random civs, no game-detail related (private) chat and mostly turn and city elim limit set) since ladder gaming is a little different to normal multiplayer or singleplayer games. after some games you will recognize some players and get known, teamers will then be on the plan (if you like ). don't worry if you don't get into password protected teamers directly, ppl like to play with other known members to minimize the risk of newer players ruining a team game - your time will come once you get some games on your stats if you like to play with a certain group, found some mates or just want to be part of a clan, you might consider having a look into the clan section of the forum, not necessary but lots of fun ... 4. www.myleague.com/civ4players is the only site where you need to register (beside the forum which needs extra registration, but since you started this thread i guess you found out already ;D). all ladder related things can be found on that page, wether it's reporting, tournaments or just info about standings, player and statistics. regarding the report process, at myleague ONLY the looser has to report a game, if you are the winner, you just sit back, watch your daily reports and wait until all related stats are being changed according to your win. if you are the looser, you are in duty of reporting - it's different for FFA (like cton) style games and teamers. easy one first, if your team lost a teamer, you need to report to EVERY player on the opponent team (regardless if the were already killed or not, the WHOLE team wins or the WHOLE team loses). in a FFA type game, if you get killed, you have to report a loss to EVERY player still alive regardless of the point standings. if you manage to stay alive until a final victory condition is reached, you have to report a loss to EVERY player ahead of you in points. only the player who came in 1st place does not have to do a report ... e.g. if you finish 3rd in a 5 player cton, you will have to report a loss each to 2nd and 1st player and you will get a report each from player in 4th and 5th position. hope i could help you, if you have any questions left, feel free to post it here or email an admin. greetz AOE
