I was recently part of aladder game, where as usual I knew it was my responsibility to check the settings before starting. In this particular game, the host purposefully waited until all were clicked in and changed a key setting and immediately launched the game. This setting is not one I would have consented to, nor would some others willingly.
What do you all think my obligation to this game should have been. We are talking a purposeful change in setting last minute and immediate launch by host.
Thanks,
-lh
PS I am purposefully leaving out names becuase its the subject in general and not an issue about any particular player I wish to hear feedback on.

Well that is fraud, the game is void and i would feel free to leave the game without reporting and challenge any non-reports filed by the host or others.

If a host makes a major last second settings change without notifying anyone in the game, then quickly launches the game seemingly trying to trap people in it, then I would have to agree that this is pretty underhanded and any players involved should feel free to leave without any chance of retribution due to the host's dishonesty. If it was truly an accident I'm sure everyone would be ok with a restart anyways .

It's amazing what some people will do in order to gain an advantage.

If a game settings aren't exactly the same as when I checked in, I'd pause the game and challenge the host about the settings change. It is of the upmost importance to call out the host and sternly admonish them as to unacceptablity of the setting change. I think it would have been perfectly acceptable to state your objection to the setting change and leave the the game. I'm sure most reasonable players would soon join you in the lobby.

I was hoping for a discussion in the broader sense, but if the particular matters-- the change was adding anonymous to the game. I have had SO MANY problems with that feature in past games that I absolutely REFUSE to play it anymore. In this particular game, the host clicked anonymous immediately before launching the game and absolutely against my will! PS.. Not hut games sux , And zhenon- I would consider change of timer or map a serious change as well. Imagine if I clicked snail timer in a 5v5 teamer immediately before launching-- Or turned your 5v5 ren inland sea into islands

I haven't played since the patch, but before with anon, people could select leaders and nobody would know. That's why the host waits until everyone checks in with <random civ>, then the host hits anon and immediately launches to prevent anyone from sneaking their own civ pick in.
Usually it's announced in the chat that the game is anon... maybe you joined late and didn't see or something, but I don't think it's that underhanded.

LOL Well we seem to be veering back to this specific instance. OK, no the patch did not fix this. If there is a reload, once again you see who everyone is- in terms of anonymous. 2) No it was an intentional switch because the host likes that setting and knew with certainty if he made it known others including myself would not play it.

So you quit on turn one and the game is ruined and the host looks like an arse ;D
lp
PS Any teamer I host wich is random civs and shuffle teams is also gonna be anonomous, they go hand in hand for me, I love this setting, I think it's more true to the game of civ yo
