I like the idea. Maybe get a couple admins or vet players make some kinda noob clan for the soul purpose of teaching more people to play civ. It could pull more people into the hole league scene. Maybe then it won't take an hour just to get that 8th person for a teamer.

Unless it's very off-peak hours, there's usually too many people wanting to get into teamers than a lack of people. And no, I'm not talking about noobs who build wonders and leave their cities undefended.
I don't think ladder teamers are the best way to learn, though... it's probably better to have some kind of mentor system, where you join a game with your student vs the AI, have no turn timer, and slowly explain how to build up from the beginning and what squares are critical to hold, etc. That way there's no pressure... if they don't learn from that, then not much you can really do.

I don't know why there is this idea going around that it is the responsibility of better players to school the rest. The notion is feeble. Schooling will teach people how to play like the teacher, the key is learning by yourself how you want to play. Nice to say the best players on this ladder are very different in playing styles and thus make it interesting.

Maybe that is the way forward, having a charity for rubbish civvers...send donations. Give enough and we can teach these guys to be able to read the manual.

Ah but if you teach someone all your tricks it forces you to find new ways Fried has written many a civ article, he still gets surprised by people on occassion. In clan training in a way yes.... Everyone in your clan should know what you know. But to raise the whole ladder's skill level by giving pointers will only make an environment truly competitive and entertaining. Who wants to play in a teamer when you know you can crush the other team? The best games in my opinion are the ones where equal talent exists on both sides and you "shake" cause the adrenaline is pumping through your veins. Those are the games where you outdo yourself and rise up another level.
