Firaxis gets $25 a civ 4 game All they need to sell is 100,000 Civ4 Games to make 2.5 Million. Spend 900,000 on advertising telling the world that in 3-6 months Civ 4 which is the greatest strategy game ever made is going to be hosting a million dollar tournament.
Host pre qualifiers around the world in every country or something online. Top 1000 Players around the world will compete in a weekend long tournament. You can maybe fly them all out and set up a deal with some air line for all future tournaments held or something to get a discount, at the most will cost around 700$ a person average.
Spend another 90k on renting out the biggest warehouse or convention center. Sell insane amounts of Firaxis stuff and have advertisement and sell food, you can even turn this into an entire computer game expo,
You will probably get free computers from dell or somewhere else. Tons of publicity and advertisement.
Have 250 computers in the warehouse or convention center. Host 1v1 Random era 100 Turn Games Blazing with 1 City elimination no barbarians and people can pick their leaders. This should take 2 Hours each game and 1 hour waiting in between game. Go non stop 24 hours for 3 days ( Friday, Saturday, Sunday )

On the Final day, the top 8 players will play a truly Epic style game from beginning to end where they can pick any leader they like. 8AM - 12midnight No body will know who the other players are and you can have them in compete opposite corners of the rooms or just allow them to talk in the game and do whatever. If two friends knew each other before the game and both happened by the sake of god to make it to the finals and play int he same game, than other players will probably know they knew each other and they will team up also. Anything goes in this style of game.
This will be a serious investment and you will see an insane flux of people joining the game, not just because they want to compete and in the back of their minds and make money, but they think it is the best strategy game ever and what the hell are they wasting their time playing other games for. Especially when they can be playing quick 45minute - 2 hour 1v1 games or the other 1 million variations of games civ 4 offers. You must also incorporate the fact that Civ 4 is an amazing game in itself and all people need to do is try the game and at least 50% get hooked and when civ 5 comes out you will have that many more people that are going to buy the damn game and all its expansions and thats what you want in the end. 15 million to buy the game. 7.5 to get hooked and continue to buy the civ series.
This tournament will be an amazing advertising tool for civ and will do this game justice, all hoping they can fix the game completely before they do this. And to think that you are not going to sell at least 100,000 copies by the announcment of this tournament alone, in in the 3-6 month notification of this tournament is madness. Just tell people in a 30 second advertisement on TV or whatever that Civ 4 is the best, try some kind of demo of the game or just check the reviews, obviously the game is amazing or you wouldn't be hosting such an amazing tournament. If you can snag the professional gamers in this world to play this game, you will have the serious money because everyone follows the leads of the serious gamers.
What ya think, obviously somethings may need a little work, but if you guys do this I think you may have something great on your hands.
