Croxis at CFC posted this synopsis of the article:
The latest April 2006 issue of PC Gamer contains a two page interview with Soren Johnson (Civ4 Lead Designer) and Barry Caudill (Civ4 Producer) on page 56 of the magazine.
There really isn't too much new that we don't already know. They talked about how multi-player was included from the ground up and that helped with the AI-bottle neck in the development cycle. They also had a playable build in 6 months. Soren said he wished they did a public beta at least three months before shipping to catch many of the issues from launch. Civfanatics and ulfn's graph mod was mentioned and how his mod was included in the second patch.
Soren also mentioned that he wished they had time to develop an editor for the game so people can change basic features without having to dig into the xml.
Some news on the next patch: "Besides the upcoming pitboss and SDK releases, our next patch will focus mostly on bug fixes, especially in regards to connectivity within the GameSpy lobby. In the future, we're going to take advantage of the modding flexibility of Civ IV ourselves, so we expect to see some scenarios that provide interesting twists on the core gameplay."
So there is hope for the MP lobby, let's hope that Firaxis is indeed successful in solving most of the connectivity issues.

You forgot to switch to slavery Good old whipping works perfectly. Firaxis can always hire some more developers and betatesters as a replacement.

Is that what is being promised? No, but it'll be the best they can do, and as close as perfect as any good game developer has done. There may be gameplay items that have been addressed that some may love and some may hate, but that's par for the course when you make those changes. CS

Well, I'm glad to see they have connectivity as a priority. Then maybe I can actually play the game and make a first-hand assessment of the value of CIV.
Perhaps my comment was a bit of a wise-crack; but the patch taking so long probably raises expectations.

whip there must be a good reason u cant connect, do u know why??? cause i connect 4 out 5 times and reboot for last 1/5 or kick someone to join maybe firewall? or soemthing...? Well, I'm not the only one. There are many posts here from people who can't connect at all, or it takes so many attempts they conclude that it's not worth it. And no, I don't know why I can't connect. No firewall, no router, cable connection which is the most reliable and fastest of any player on C3C. Well, almost any. Canuck spent a couple of hours trying to diagnose the problem; but it remains a mystery.

Whips problems are perplexing and not within the normal range of issues we know how to deal with if not solve completely. But if he pays for a plane ticket I'd be glad to make a house call CS

Have you tried Hamachi Whip? chris. I never heard of Hamachi until it was talked about on these boards a few days ago. I'm awaiting the patch and expecting that to fix things. If it doesn't I don't know what I'll do.

Hamachi seems a good track in your situation where nothing has worked, maybe it won't work, but I think really you should try. You will need to join another people with Hamachi to do the test in the best condition.
