Ok people, This may need to be verified by a few more people, but I am pretty sure I have solved the problem of peer issues forever......... Obviously some people think you need to clean catche or change modem or router settings, but I don't think this is the main issue. After doing some research I have come up with the following. If you are getting stuck on someones peer it is because that person has opened Internet Explorer or some other internet connected program. If that person closes that Program you will be able to connect to that person and get past there peer. Test it out, so far its worked with everyone who has tested it with me and it will do the job with reconnects also, just make sure both the person connecting and everyone int eh game has the programs closed in the staging rooms..... Hopeful this will solve one of the main problems of this game.....

Nah it can't be that simple. When i'm playing Civ4, i have ICQ and Xfire in the background. Also, there are several FireFox windows opened (ladder "player search", gmail that updates information about every minute etc.). I remember i even played in a lobby with a Torrent client taking 60% of my upload capacity (30 kbyte out of 50 kbyte upload) and everything worked just fine.

Ditto...
Always have mail client & browser open, at the very least, and no problem whatsoever (except the wifi dropping, which has nothing to do with those)

game might be right in 1 point - internet explorer and civ4 dont like each other - when i host and got it open at same time i got in about 50% of games some huge lag when getting into game - because my firewall start suddenly to run high - and other people in game dont see me
oh well and there are people with problems and people without out there - sure if u have no problems u need no trick ..

::shrug:: Never run into this problem myself. Really gotta find a way to convince MGT to mod-down his thread titles.

Dont know if this helps but when i was visiting my parrents and was on a firewalled connection i had to turn off protection from DOS attacks to make it work. This could be because civ4 might send a lot of packets fast to your router and routers with DOS attack protection will refuse these packets of information.
And also i have firefox open when i play civ4 too...

CIV 4 dont seem to mind IE, when you are in the lobby and tab, it causes the lobby game names to go funny.
But once you have connected to a game, then you can run IE just fine. Infact when i am waiting for players at the staging area i ALWAYS, have IE and c4f open in the back, and to date havnt denied anyone getting in. In fact i would say, amoung those i play regularly i have a "good peer" rep, ie no one has EVER had problems with me.

Well, I ALWAYS have my AOL browser open and I've been able to play well over 250 games now.
I don't think this is the answer, or the most important thread ever...I really thought that we'd get to read MGT's post of resignation this thread, I really did.

People, Next time there is a peer problem and someone cant connect because of another player, don't have the admin boot that player or need to compeltly rehost another game. What I am saying is ask that person if they have other internet related programs up, if they say yes, which they will say, than have them close it and have the person trying to connect close it and you wont have to deal with this. Sure its possible that players can connct to a game while these things are up, but when people can't connect to the game, its beause these things are up. I think you guys should directly test this out with what I said in mind, if you have never had any peer problems (Which I don't see logical because everyone has been in a teamer or cton with a peer problem unless you have only played one and got lucky), than forget this, but if you do ever encounter peer problems just test this out...

Hmmm those thing is not that simple. If u have external firewall or XP-microsoft Antispyware that can cause peer problem. Antispyware have 3 categories one of them is IE seting which disable connecting to client IP , depend of a lots of setings. If people use default seting on Antispayware and run CIV4 that can make trouble. same can be with anti virus etc... Opened IE without Antispyware is one thing and Opened IE with Antispyware is different thing. U are to fast on your guns, gunslinergs.

the·o·ry (n) - An assumption based on limited information or knowledge lol Admins> could you please look up the possibility of adding ignore options to the boards ? Some bad apples are kinda spoiling it, and probably driving people off. As time off and banning must be carefully weighted, a personal way to avoid annoying behavior would be warmly welcomed.
