I'm tired of having noobs quit games for a variety of reasons from OOS, to being attacked by a single axeman, to getting a bad start location. I think noobs who show a paticular noobiness should be blacklisted and denied entry into all games hosted by ladder members.

I voted no. They can't learn if you don't teach them. I know it gets annoying, but try to tell them that what they are doing is wrong and try to knock the sense in them. Tell them that as a ladder member, they are not to quit ladder games. Or just tell them to go read the rules

I'm in complete agreement with Tommy. We're not going to categorically ban anyone - players make their own judgements on who they play with and who they don't.
Everyone - including me, Tommy, Agent, and even SPM - was a "noob" at one point. If you want to be elitist, that's your business. As for me, I'll continue to play folks I don't know and make new friends.

I would like to add my 2 cents regarding banning newbies. It's not fair to the newbs to ban them for being newbs. Would you want experienced ladder players to ban you because you were not as experienced as they are? (that's the old, "do unto others" thing again)
I fully support every player having their own black list. I have found my own blacklist an invaluable tool to assist me when it comes to choosing who I will and will not play.
The truly wonderful thing about having a blacklist is the ability to cross off someones name when they have learned how to behave in an acceptable manner. It also feels really good when you inform someone that has transgressed the bounds of what you deem as acceptable, that you have added them to your blacklist.
Once enough players have added a miscreant to their blacklists, the bad behavior usually stops. I say usually because, unfortunately, there are always those that will never learn and their names will remain on your DNP list indefinately.

if they're not listed on the ladder, simply don't play them.

A definite NO. All ladder players should play with a noob once a day. Its sort of like watching a cat play with a mouse before it swallows it

I don't have a blacklist just a black name so it doesn't really count. And playing newbs is fun, just as being newb is educational. It is like a cat playing with a dead mouse good anology.

Not for long if you don't stop talking down and being rude to other players agent. Pl@yaz has many members playing many diff games and when you act like this you insult us all. Plz try to show respect in this forum and in lobby.

Don't know why Agent always seemed ok to me, why what you done And no this is reserved for someone much more annoying than you I think you got a slightly odd attitude to noobs, but that's no reason to get on a blacklist.

Ok, I am not a noob, I have played in civ 3 since december 2003 (got the game for christmas). I just didn't register for ladder because I thought ladder members were elitist snobs who though they were better than other people. I finally registered a few weeks nefore the civ 4 release for the civ 3 ladder (sir party man took a long time to reply to the invite request).

There are some players who are elitist, either in their attitude, or the players they will play with, who hang around in pools, who only play with a small minority of players, fortunately they are few and far between and do not consist of the members amongst the vast majority of clans. Whilst I have no problem with anyone playing with a minority and not mixing it up a bit, or only playing games they deem are worth it if they contain their best mates, I have far more respect for players who aren't obsessed with incestuous ladder play, who accept that to make this a better community they need to spread the word and who by example will play anyone. It's early days if you've formed cliques already then as far as I'm concerned your a hindrance to the ladder not a help, you have every right to chose who you play with, but don't come a round here and voice your opinions cause your a minority group with little or no worthy input. In c3c it was established and you didn't have to make an effort, and you shouldn't of been necessarily expected to, times have changed: you want to do the same here, then you'll get no respect from me nor should you expect any. That said I've yet to meet a player who falls into this category, but I would suspect there are a few out there: my message: you play a few for the team eh, after all they'd do the same for you. And Agent006: there is no hierarchy amongst the ladder players, no I am better than you because I've been here x years, you are judged on your contribution not the length of the chain on your belt. I of course contribute nothing to anything which is why I get flamed so often but that is to be expected, do not expect any sort of positive comments for trying to help. Merely derision and intolerance, this is the way it works If you are having trouble gaining acceptance then change to meet their criteria, if your still having trouble then ignore them, they aren't worth your consideration. Agent006 you have in any game I've been in with you been fine by me, I don't see what the issue is, they might have a point that if you're too free with your opinion no matter how valid or whether you have a point or not, then you challenge some peoples fragile idea of accepted behavior. What they don't realise is that by far the most good comes of those who rock the boat occasionally and that stagnation leads to death, but the some people will never learn. If you hate noobs so be it, if you don't like city raising, so be it, just don't expect a warm response from the conservative element, they neither realise that this is not c3c nor care. If I see one more person not using his common sense and trying to abuse an obviously antiquated rule system, I will report them to admins, you know who you are; I have no problem with the rules but if you're gonna abuse them to suit your own ends or keep banging your head against your keyboard to count the rule violations then expect short shrift from me. And despite my recent comments I am not singling out anyone to who I have referred on this forum: that small and ever decreasing minority are out there now, you know who you are: be ashamed be very ashamed.

I would like to protest the closing of my "ban the christmas-noobs" poll by the moderators. The poll contained no offensive language until it was closed because of 2 flame threads posted by wiphash and Sidhe, my opinion is they should be punished, not my poll. This level of censorship is something I would expect from a cheesey website like "civfanatics.com"( from which I was banned).
I deleted the two flaming threads mentionned. The thread in question is reopened. Use it wisely to show us that we did the right thing reopening it.
