Since CIV 4 has come out i have probally been the biggest advocate of scenarios, i have tried to get players for UU or QC games a number of times, and have played QC a few times 1v1.
But the way mods are loaded is totally killing this off, i hosted a 4v4 UUMadness (was actually pretty fun once it got started).
But first it took me 90 mins, yes 90 mins to get enough players, this was partly due to people not knowing what it is and mainly due to people not knowing how to load the mod. Even when people loaded the right file they were not able to see my game, well some could, but some couldnt. Finally after 90 mins we launched, the game freezes, not host drop because i was in there talking to everyone, and i have seen this bug before also last time somsone hosted a UU cton. So i said ill try rejoining maybe it will work, when i got to lobby i couldnt see my game LOOOL, after a few other left aswell i could so everyone rejoined and we finally played a pretty decent lagg free game. Even though the people in the game thought the mod was ok, im very sure they will not play it agian.
Why has loadeding mods become so complicated, firstly you need the exact same file, so for exmaple some people were laoding UUMadness and not version 1.02. Secondly it just seems like alot more hassle then its worth, why have NO MODS become popular? This is just such a silly way to laod a mod it is actually almost unbelievable, it has no sense or logic behind it.
When i said i dont like industrial era and future starts with such powerful starting units someone said make a mod, this is why mods are not an option!
A simple solution would be just to load the hosts file on all computers, with the message "UUMadness1.02" loaded, if this doesnt match your own file you get the message "hosts file does not match yours, if you have a file with the same name. SUCH CRAZZYNESS!
