The following information may be safely assumed to supercede what you read in the manual, or is added to it: Chariots: This unit gets 100% vs Axemen, not the 50% mentioned in the manual. Charismatic: This trait gives you +1 per city, +1 per monument/obelisk, as mentioned in the manual. The manual neglects to mention the 25% less experience in promoting troops, however, which is in the game. Anonymous Play: (Omitted) This feature hides the identity of all players' civ choices at the start of a game, and causes every player to be labeled by their leader's name, making it impossible to know (in-game) who has chosen what. True identities are revealed at game's end, or when a player dies, he is revealed. Shuffle Play: (Omitted) This feature allows you to have teams randomly chosen. Set the teams in the manner you want them to be randomly chosen (2 of 5, 3 of 3, 7 of 2) and don't worry about who is on what team. After you click "launch" every player will be randomly assigned to one of the team slots. Thus, if you have ten players assigned to three teams of three, and one person left out alone, the game will randomly assign the ten players into three teams, and leave one person out by themselves, but it will not be the arrangement you chose in the lobby. If there are any other manual errors that need mentioning, please post below and I'll copy them into the first post.

while playing the anonymous method - if a player drops and doesn't come back, do the other players know his name for reporting purposes?
and also, when a player dies in this type of game, is he able to see the names of the people who he is supposed to report to and vice-versa?

When a player drops his/her real name will be in the vote box, and the real player names are in the staging room, that is now were you will have to write them down in this style of game, not wait until in game.

so, when someone "drops" from the game (remaining players see dropped players real name at vote), does the rejoining player see real "ladder names" at some point in their hot-join process as well?

They would see the "connecting to..." as normal, but that doesn't tell them what Civs those players are, and they already know who is in the game in the first place.

Yes that can happen, but WL's is no different from Civ4 in that respect, anonymous play doesn't change any other basic game mechanics.
