because of the liberals that have haulted the developement of nuke power, its now 2007 and humanity is still buring coal(coal has urianum 1 part per million). The electric car does not exist because it is cheaper to fill ur car with gas then it is to plug it in the wall. In Califronia we can bearly keep the lights on as it is, imagine 20 million electic cars added to that. With nuke power we could run all the cool stuff like electric cars that drive themselfs to maglift trains that cruise faster then jets. And theres plenty of room the build them in Nevada.

use money to help sience find new ways to make beter use off anternative energi sources, wind water sun ect. is a lot to gain there but every effort is held back by the oil industri; cut the military to a min.; how healty can the earth get if you bomb a city like bagdahd for a month tax the use off energi hard, or restrict it, like it is not legal to use energi on electrical advetisements on buildings or sim. Nuke-energi is dangerous especialy in the world we live in now where two big religions are more or less at war.

We are f**king up the environment without a doubt.
Having said that, there is no viable alternative at all. We are f**ked. I know many people don't want to accept that global warming is real and i know that many people think there is an easy solution. There isn't.
We currently live in an awesome age of cheap energy and plastics, once the oil runs out that will be no more. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Decent poll. The Earth has had huge heating and cooling periods throughout it's relatively short history. A think such as meteor /comet impact pushes vast amounts of debris into the atmosphere. Volcanoes, have you ever seen one burning superheated gasses powering out of the vents; many quite toxic. Forrest fires are nothing new to this planet. How about 1k years or more ago when the continents set ablaze(lightning). They were only put out by lack of fuel to burn or rain(best I know). It has been said the 'dark ages' were so named for a more obvious reason... IT WAS ACTUALLY DARK(ER). Any or a combination of the above could have been root causes for that to happen. skipping ahead, as it is late, Nevada is aboout(last i checked) 92% Federally owed land 4% state held and the remainder public. There is not a lot going on here in Nevada. A great deal of the land is unuseable for some time to come do to nuclear teasting, not a bad thing IMO. Better to know b4 than after. Some actually feared the first nuke would ignite the atmosphere and the sky would be ablaze...killing us all. Best I could tell that did not happen. There are many solutions to the problems we face today with this issue. However, there are causes much deeper than hype of simply 'greenhouse gasses' and other phenomanon One well timed solar flare could really ruin your day - much faster than global warming... I don't hear any debates about that one; do you? Time for bed, all these greenhouse gasses are making me sleepy...

maybe this year the rest of the world will finally wake up to global warming but I doubt it theres too much money to be made from Oil. It would take 1 massive bloody windfarm to power the UKs electricity needs I guess if windpower took off in the US it would need to be maybe flatten Nevada and build one there but its looking more likely that more Nuclear plants will be built due to costs etc (cheaper to build than the equivalant in size windfarm) The next biggest problem is recycling materials not enough people do it maybe if you were payed to sort youre rubbish or taxed on the Refuge you throw out if over a certain limit that could help a little towards making people recycle more? anyways one thing for sure We will all get a nice Suntan this summer

It is incredibly stupid to not use nuclear power. Two historical problems:
The stupid Jane Fonda movie (China Syndrome) came out at exactly the time of the little mishap at Three Mile Island. The fact is though that nobody was hurt by the malfunction at TMI. There were adequate redundancies and safety systems to prevent a meltdown. Second thing was Chernobyle. That was a disaster; but it's because the Russians designed the thing without good safety precautions.
Nuclear power is clean, cheap and reliable (no blackmail from mideast for fuel). People worry about the waste. It's not a problem, dump it near Dr. Shot.

Lol, seriously though the waste from nuclear plants is a problem. Even reprocessing still leaves high grade waste which is much more harmful than natural uranium. It really needs to not only be buried but also guarded and cared until it's radiation falls to safe levels (10,000 years or so).
Another issue is the cost. Nuclear power is often much more expensive than coal fired power, assuming the coal plant can be built near coal reserves.
There's also othe issue of nuclear is fine for electiricty generation but what about replacing oil? Electric cars produce a lot of harmful waste in terms of batteries that do eventually wear out. Plastics and synthetics are typically made from oil too. We use them for everything.
I honestly don't beleive there is a solution that allows us to maintain our current lifestyle without screwing up the environment one way or the other. We should just enjoy our luxuries while they last, whilst still being conservative.
btw your poll options are very American centric. Democrats? Republicans? And Liberals halted nuclear projects? (here liberal refers to a very pro-capitalist polical party, who are all for nuclear power)

I admit the poll is americanized but i was also trying to be funny. If you got to mine the urainum out of the ground what wrong with putting it back in. I see a bunch of "the sky is falling" behavior. I'm willing to bet a warmer world would be a better one. With longer growing seasons etc. The majority of humanity lives on or near the equator. I think global cooling would suck more.

Global Warming aint just about getting a nice sun Tan The sea Levels will rise and quite a lot of land will be under the sea so best not live near a river or a coastal area ALL move inland or Live up a mountain is the best bet

1. Global Warming MIGHT be man made, but in all probability its just a natural process of cycles and subcycles within the earths atmosphere and within the sun.
2. Many years ago an obscure civilization not heard of by many people called the Vikings farmed fertile land in a mythical place called Greenland, which in modern times is covered with ice.
3. The sun is getting hotter and giving off more energy. Scientists attribute this to natural sun cycles. This seems the most obvious reason that the temperature on earth would heat up, and the first place someone should look. Sun hotter= Earth hotter.
4. One volcano going off puts out more carbon oxides than all the cars on the earth can put out in an entire year. I think we should put our money into researching electric volcanoes as this would make the atmosphere better than if we did the same to all the cars.
5. When ice melts the sea levels will not always rise. If the ice that melts its already floating in water then it melting will actually cause the water levels to drop because ice displaces more area than water. If the ice that melts in on land and then runs into the water the levels will rise. So the real question to ask is how much of the worlds ice is floating and how much isn't.
6. Finding somewhere to put all of the depleted uranium from nuclear factories is not a problem anymore. It molds nicely into armor and ammunition. So instead of disposing or burying the waste we can just litter entire lands that we don't live in with the stuff. Since the war in Iraq the United States has disposed of over 620 metric tons of D.U. by this method. And look on the bright side, in 20 billion years there will only be 310 metric tons left in Iraq. Nevermind the soaring cancer and deformity rates in this region. There is no connection at all.
I think we should give up all our land and rights to a global organization/world government so they can save us from the sun and volcanoes and ourselves. Humanity must be controlled and enslaved to prevent the sun from getting hotter. Remember chicken little, the poor little chicken who thought the sky was falling? In the modern age chicken little has become a god.

Here is a link to an interesting article I found at www.infowars.comwww.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1363818.ece"Climate history and related archeology give solid support to the solar hypothesis. The 20th-century episode, or Modern Warming, was just the latest in a long string of similar events produced by a hyperactive sun, of which the last was the Medieval Warming."

The only thing certain in this whole matter is that Al Gore's silly movie will win the Academy Award for Best Documentary.

true that whip i'm posting again because today one of the top stories at www.infowars.com deals with this issue. its a good read. the best stuff is right after halfway thru the article. The Creeping Fascism of Global Warming Hysteria infowars.com/articles/ps/global_warming_creeping_fascism_of_global_warming_hysteria.htmgotta love this quote from the czech president.... Czech President Klaus stated, "Global warming is a false myth and every serious person and scientist says so. It is not fair to refer to the U.N. panel. IPCC is not a scientific institution: it's a political body, a sort of non-government organization of green flavor. It's neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists. These people are politicized scientists who arrive there with a one-sided opinion and a one-sided assignment."
