Along with catapults, elephants and conquistadors, this has to be the most overpowered unit around. Especially in regards to Medievil starts. Question as to why the most powerful defensive unit at the start is a non-combat unit. regardless, perhaps should changes should be made here.
First, do not allow it to be the defending unit in a stack. i.e. it should not be able to cover a chariot from a spear attack. This idea of an enemy being able to send their non-combat units to stall an attack is really silly. Second, Bring strenth down to 3. Why cant I at least have a 50/50 chance to kill something without weapons on flat land?

Boohiss...trying to nerf the explorer!
It got a small shelf life of value, leave it be especially given that elephants eat them alive.
I like how your overpowered units misses out the impis, a truely overpowered unit due to being able to move swiftly over all terrain and gain said defensive bonuses and can be combined with chariots. But oh no, it is the poor, offensiveless explorer that takes your irk.
Good infact to have a defensive unit that is fast so in teamers people can help each other out.

over powered or not, explorers should be just that explorers, and using them to defend in future is even more BS. They should have zero str or 1 at most, with huge movement. What is the sense in making them start with forest and hill too?
See stuff like this and making catapults weeker will have little or no effect on SP, so why firaxis sh1t on us i have no idea. There are thousands of MPers, casual and regualrs, and there could be alot more if some attention was given to this, infact i doubt the average SP guys plays as much as the average MP guy.

Are you crazy? Explorers are already pretty useless in singleplayer because their strength is so low. Making it even lower will make them even more useless. Compass is never a priority tech. You usually have longbows and stuff long before explorers. And even if you don't you'll have axes and swordsman which are better defenders (and cheaper for axes, and equally expensive for swords). Do you ever see people building large amounts of explorers? I don't. Maybe 1-2 or medieval starts. But even there usually only if people lack copper or iron. Sure the starting explorer is cool, and can defend effectively for a while. But hell, that's not a bad thing. Games aren't supposed to be over in 10 minutes Yes, I agree that explorers are a problem in future games. But that's not a problem with explorers, it's a problem with future games. If you'd still be able to build chariots or axes in the future, they would have been even stronger than explorers. What the game needs is a late-age explorer-type unit. I dunno, something like a light armored vehicle with 16 hp, ignore terrain cost, 3 movement. And, most importantly, a lot more expensive than explorers. Like 120 hammers or so.

explorers are usless for exploring in this game, we only play inland sea and tbg not liek we dont know the map already lol, go fractal go!!

This is exactly what im saying, explorers should be explorers, they should serve only 2 purposes:
1) Very fast fog of war clearers, wheaher this is a newly found island in an epic or your current island in a later era start (ren/medi/indus/modern/and definatly future too) - they should have to be built, so you have to weigh up, wheather you want a exploring/resource finding unit or not. Of course they shouldn't be used to explore your own island, in an epic, that just stupid.
2) And secondly a very fast/cheap unit you can sacrifice to see whats deep in the enermies land.
3) This is for SP mainly and kinda applicable to MP too, so you can make very fast contact with others, in medi plus eras.
These things are applicable to SP and MP imo, as didiem says explorers have little purpose in SP epics, this is also the case in MP game that start from the begining, this is why i say these kinda changes would have little inpact on SP, while at the same time keeping MP happy. This is also why i say they can tweak catapults too, without effecting the SP game too much and still keeping MP happy, well happier then they currently are.
