i think a bunch of you raytards have an attitude problem. i love how the voting in the begining of this thread is just ignored. and you wonder why a huge chunk of ladder players don't even bother to play in the CCC? what kind of idiot wouldnt have water in a modern game. only a raytard would be so dumb. but whats it matter anyway cause obviously majority opinion doesn't. ray makes me sick. Couldnt agree more Smatt but us mere mortals dont get a say in the CCC setttings but perhaps with the new mods things might change i for one hope so i am getting bored of the game right now and I dont think i am the only one!

This is an MP community and the CCC is an MP tournament. I have no desire to play in or add a SP event to the CCC. Besides, isn't it quite easy to cheat in SP? I mean, World Builder, pause and GP exploits, reload to fix problems, etc. I don't think we want to open that can of worms for the CCC. Imagine how many "so and so cheats" threads we'll have then? That's what the autolog option is for No way to avoid a log that records your every action.....if people don't believe, they can simply follow the log and replay through the game. Also you might find you'd enjoy this sort of game more than you think....

I don't think we need to re-invent what the SP fan sights are already covering well, with there diplogames and GOTM competitions, while we are the only major MP fan sight, and the only one that caters to the needs of the MP community.

And to be honest smatt, I don't like a lot of the games that you've tried to host, but you don't see me in here calling you names and making fun of you. YOU MAKE ME SICK.

Here's yet another idea to throw out to the breeze: What if we tried adding an event that specifically targetted the single player community, in an attempt to lure more single player people into the multiplayer realm. My idea is this: the staff starts a game with no opponents and saves the file at the start. Each clan is given the save and allowed to play it from the start by as many players and as many times as they choose to try and achieve an ultimate score by a particular date, or reach a milestone as quickly as possible (such as liberalism, music, take your pick - can be a new target every ccc!). This sort of event would challenge teams to form a think-tank on the fly to really come up with deep strategies of how and what to build, how to expand (if it's a multicity game), how to tech, the works. The save would be posted at a set time during the day, probably on the first day, and by discretion of the staff there would be a particular ending submission time whereby nothing could be submitted after. I think with the addition of this sort of event to the ccc, we might see some active GOTM single player people showing up to join in our fun, and perhaps entice them into real multiplayer games as well. I think this is a brilliant idea. There are tools to easily see if one has cheated. We could borrow from the experience of the moderators at civfanatics. Playing over a weekend like this would actually be bloody fun and something for everyone in the clan to gather to while waiting for other events! I think its brilliant. And it will make us better players too as we will discuss our tactics in different situations. Something we dont have time for usually on the fly in a mp game.

Also: Votes should definitivly not be all about screwing RaY, and it should neither be about RaY people trying to get advantage on playing only maps we are good at. Let the majority rule but dont change the whole CCC. For example I think one city challanges are all about luck but if thats what the majority would want for an event I wouldnt protest, but play it as much I could and reduce the factor of luck as much as I could. lets just all be friends Im sure some clans will come and challange RaY for our titles, but you guys dont have to be angry at us for actually achiveing something the latest CCC's. Now perhaps go back on topic about suggetions and comments?

I think its time to bring CCC back to the fun it was in Civ3. A new game format has become quite popular in the lobby these days ever since I first hosted it Team battleground with start anywhere, instead of grouped up. It spreads the civs around the map a lot in similar fashion than civ3 games were. Adding the same fun and excitement back to civ. Now you have to change your tactics to every game, team play becomes increasingly important. This is the only map that has a good spread out start, sadly. But this is, as I find, finally a really great fun way to play civ. Bring back the good old days I say! Get some events on this atleast to begin with. I'd be even as bold as to say majority of them. Variety, adversity, challenge, different tactics, different positions and situations to face. This is what civ is about. Let the fun begin.

Start anywhere?
No thanks. Any players separated from their teams just get to sit there building Archers and getting rushed by the entire other team. I don't think that's a very fun game type, actually.

Well last time(and only time) I have played that, I have built archer during all the game. I was in the middle of other team Well I'm died about 25 turns before the end. That was not a funny game for me. chris.

That was not a funny game for me. chris. I agree Vencelas TBG start anywhere makes the game even more luck orientated. You get stuck between 3 players, 2 of which have war resources and you do not. I guarantee you will dead 15 turns after the opposing team gets construction. If we start playing maps like TBG start anywhere we will start having luck feast type of games which rely on fast moving and resources in the cap. I don't believe we need to be adding more luck events in the CCC, we already have the land lottery that is the OCC. The balanced map is interesting because it does start players in random locations, however players are usually close to one of their allies. However, the conclusion I got from the balanced map is that any start with more than 2 settlers the map breaks on small size. I know inland sea gets alot of flack in the multi player community but it is by far the most balanced map in the script. Also, if I can make a suggestion I would make the occ cton a killer cton where you can take the oppositions land if you kill them because as it stands the event is completely based on luck. If you kill someone you should be able to use the city, I know that defeats the point of occ but it at least allows some battling. Most of the ladder knows the farming scientist strategy.

Start anywhere? No thanks. Any players separated from their teams just get to sit there building Archers and getting rushed by the entire other team. I don't think that's a very fun game type, actually. Not all like all game types, many prefer inland sea only because it is the most "fair" and balanced. Gives everyone about equal land etc. But some players on the ladder find the variety, differences in start positions. Varying starting situations and positions of teams and individual players. Varying circumstances etc. to be the fun part. I'd like to put climate random as well, so we don't always play the same thing. Fact is this game style has become popular and is constantly increasing popularity. It is now propably the most played team game type in the lobby at the moment, not the onlyone, but the most played one. I think some of the CCC events at the least should be done using this setup. And to Zhenon, Lakes map does give more inequal starts than TBG, which I don't mind. It does have both teams grouped however, same as Pangea. TBG is unfortunately the only map on civ4 that allows teams to be separated(to my knowledge atleast). This is just one of the reasons why most of the top civ3 players never shifted to civ4, the reason games here at the time were only equal start positions and equal maps, teams grouped up always etc. Only inland sea played for cton. etc. Bring back the fun and excitement, make it more random, so what? Randomness and variety is fun. Playing the same thing over and over feels like work. This makes it feel like a game again. Besides a team finds strategic challenges from this, more differenet challenges you have to face. So one player is separated sometimes? What do you do to counter that? PLAY AS A TEAM? There are a lot different strategic scenarios here than just that too. With the regular setup, there are very few. Also this makes different kinds of attacks possible, fast moving units gain more usability. This opens up a lot more fronts, a lot more attack paths. In a game that till now has been far too defence oriented.

I enjoy the setting sometimes because of the randomness of it but this statement here is not true. I played some 12 games over 2 days now and 2 of them where start anywhere. The most played ladder games at the moment is medieval team battlegrounds with start near team. And red if your hosting all the start anywhere and then say it is the most hosted type that doesnt really count! I also noticed people complaining that this setting is too unbalanced and luck factored.

Bring back the fun and excitement, make it more random, so what? Randomness and variety is fun. Random starts are fine in games for fun, but in the highly competitive atmosphere of the CCC, randomness and luck should be mitigated as much as possible in favor of balanced and roughly equivalent starts.
