Ok can you folks in the know clear this up without violating the NDA? I saw today at Apoly the the ship date is now 25 October vice 24 October. If you can't share anything can you at least tell us if the actual date is still up in the air? I want to take a day off of work the day it is in stores but now Im not sure which day to take. HELP!

"release date," "ship date," and "in retail store date" can all be different things.
as many have posted, the fastest most guaranteed way to get it, is to order it online with express/overnite shipping (additional cost).
second fastest would probably be ordering online with a cheaper but slower shipping method.
in retail stores? in my oppinion, it's more of a gamble and probably not the fastest or even a guaranteed "definate day" to purchase method. you're relying on the retail store to NOT just directly get it from the manufacturer, but from the supplier and also slowed down through the retail store's own distribution network.
For retail over-the-counter purchasing, it's more of a guarantee if you've pre-paid and pre-ordered through retail and not just a stop there and buy off the shelf kind of thing.

It's really hard to tell and not something that even Firaxis has any control over, Take2 is the publisher and getting the game to the store warehouses is there job. The 24th is a tuesday which is the typical day of the week for game releases, but most stores won't have it on shelves until the 25th, so that explains the slightly difference. The best thing to do if you plan on buying it from your local "brick and mortar" store is to phone them and ask them.

If you pre-order from EBGames they will send you an e-mail the day before they expect to have it and give you a phone call the minute it arrives.

25th is the date here in Ohio, and mines on the way Although I am wondering what the system requirements will be. I was told they will be similar to Pirates, but Im not sure. Hopefully I can run it or I will be staring @ the box for a month til I can afford to upgrade

Hopefully I can run it or I will be staring @ the box for a month til I can afford to upgrade That seems to be the current urban legend Im now hearing also that you can choose "single units" vice those "multiple looking units"most of us have seen in the previews. That not only provides you with something that looks more "CIV LIKE" but also sucks up less system resources. So my guess is unless you had a hard time running pirates you should be OK, and may have more options than pirates to turn settings down to get things to work right or better. Thats just my SWAG though (Scientific wild asss guess)

Personally I'm just totally confused Amazon UK had it released at oct 24th then changed it to the 4th of November. It seems most UK distributers are saying between the 25th and the 28th. In the US it comes out on the 24th. But why are there so many different dates? Anyone even have the remotest idea when it will be released anywhere, cause it seems to change with the wind. I can't see why some distributers are apparently getting it a week and a half earlier than others anyway, not in the same country? Doesn't make sense, I have seen a site claiming that it will be released 5 days ago? Nice one? It's the not knowing isn't it, that's the worst part Can someone enlighten me to a release date that is likely for the UK even if it is give or take a few days? And if anyone has recieved a copy in the next couple of days please let us know.

Thanks, one more question, why was it changed from 24th Oct to 4th Nov? Not a great surprise after all many games are late, but in this case they moved the release date back a week suggesting they were happy with the games progress and then forward again?

I'm not sure what's up with Anitquity.
The decision was made for a variety of reasons to allow the beta testers to begin play on Monday, to avoid nasty "fake-report" situations, along with a host of other problems.
Since Antiquity isn't the name of a beta tester, he's going to get the boot, and soon.

I received the e-mail from EBgames today saying that it was shipped Oct 24 (today). If they hold true to their promise they will give me a phone call when it arrives in the store that I pre-ordered from.

Yep, went into EB Games this afternoon to pick up my pre-order and they told me it will be in tomorrow 10/26/05. I then called CompUSA and they told me the same thing. I then called another EB games and they told me Thurs. 10/27/05. They said it was pushed back a couple of days.
Well, I guess we can read all the complaints for the delay and cross reference them with those that thought they were rushing release before it was ready. :-)
