I have seen many players complaining about Hub, Ring and Wheel because of really poor land, especially because of a huge amount ot deserts. It is shameful because these maps are very interesting, but hardly playable in MP because of bad and unbalanced lands. C4F or HB maps help a little but they only add ressources on capital. The rest of the land is unchanged and can still be awful. So I had the idea to try another change : playing with probabilities for each kind of tile to appear. Here is a list of the changes I made : - decreased desert ratio
- increased grassland ratio
- decreased jungle ratio
- increased hills ratio
- decreased mountains ratio (except for Green_Hub, I didn't find how to do this for that map)
The negative part is that you get very few flood plains. But since the rest of the land is very green, you don't lack food. Cities won't grow as fast as they would with flood plains, but you don't get unhealthy people, so they can grow bigger. As to me, these map are especially appropriate for Ironman, but can be good for any game as well. Check these out HEREJuni

People always complain, thruth is, its equally unfair and fair for all. Without randomness the game will die faster.
I prefer old way, but anyone can try new things sure.
I find these maps all very good as they are.
Any map shouldn't be equal for everyone. then it becomes boring and useless.

Well said Red, civ mp is all about making the best of what you got. if you start in the corner of the map and have desert tiles mixed in with tundra plains and flat lands, a tiny island to yourself and are stuck next to RedPhoenix as Maya racing ahead on points... get a religion.

Those maps really make nice lands... or at least never awful I've tested them in several ironman (green hub, green wheel) and players didn't complain, overall less desert and more plains and hills. The latest civ4fans version install them in the BTS publicmaps folder (along with c4f and HB 1,2,3 maps).
