Barbs really suck IMO, this is they so few MP games have had them in the past year. It just means you have to build units sometimes when its not practical to do so.
I personally really hate barbs in MP CIV, they have no place!

Barbs really suck [snip] It just means you have to build units sometimes when its not practical to do so. [snip] That's exactly the point... they're there to balance the early game by forcing uber-culture type players to build a few troops... I don't really mind either way for this game... but if you generally don't play with barbs I think your missing the point... building a civ shouldn't always be convenient... you should have to deal with issues you don't like and adapt your grand plans when emergencies arise...

I don't mind fighting the barbs. The concern I have is that it may unbalance the game start. It's a big boost for somebody to pop a tech or even a big wad of gold on turn 5.

Whip there is a seperate option for tribal villages, unlike C3C no barbs does not equal no huts!
hhmmm_ok ... i do understand this agrument of balancing infasracture/improvments with units, but there is no need for this artifical balance in MP, because if you dont balance between the 2 your neighbour will quickly double the number of cites he has (without building a settler), so IMO this does not apply to MP.
I just find it annoying having to keep units in/near my back cites and completly escorting settlers, rather then just simply having a warrior near-by, this is not a balance its wasteful and no enjoyment comes from it.
But im kinda making this issue bigger then it is, i can play with either setting, but just stating my prefrance.

One other thing to look at is the tech rate, with 12 humans teching & trading (unless that's going to be off) I'd bump up the rate a bit or we'll be nuking each other by 500 AD

Settler rule sounds fine. barbs sound fine.
For the spirit of the game, so we can have more civs I will switch to Elizabeth.

FFA with no AIs
Settings Map: Snakey Continents Size: Huge Climate: Temperate Sea Level: Medium Starting Era: Ancient Speed: Normal World Wrap: Cylindrical Resources: Balanced
Options No Barbarians: unchecked No Technology Trading: unchecked Permanent Alliances: unchecked Always War: unchecked Always Peace: unchecked Permanent War or Peace: unchecked Require complete kills: unchecked
All game victories are enabled, as well as additional scoring opportunities during the game at ten benchmark years. The firstBM year will be 500 BC instead of 2000 BC(see sections 26-8, 26-9, 26-12, and 26-13).
Multiplayer Options Simultaneous turns: checked Take over AI: checked Shuffle Teams: unchecked Anonymous: unchecked
Turn Timer: checked (You have 22 hours maximum to log in and make your move. Players are asked to make an effort to play more often than this when available. If a player misses enough consecutive turns without a good reason, he/she may be kicked.
Turn Limit: none City Elimination: none
There is a default rule that states that in an epic there shall be NO WAR until 500 BC. We are not using this rule in our epic. I repeat: war can be declared at any time, as the game would allow.
This will be a password-protected Direct IP hosted game from my PC which will be logged on throughout the entirety of the game. One potential little headache is that my ISP uses dynamic IP's. This means my IP occasionally changes. I will monitor this and update the players.
I will email the password of the game to you before it begins. I need potential players to provide their email addy for this and other host-like things to my email at: whiplash@wi.rr.com. I'd like to also remind everyone to password-protect your civ at startup and include your email addy in the player details section in the staging area (Ctl D) if you want to recieve an automatic email telling you when it's your turn.

10 benach marks are WAY too many imo, personally i would prefer no bench marks where reports are done accoding to end score. But if we do, bench marks maybe 3-5 is enough!
None of us seem report hungry anyway, but this can be dicscussed even while the game has started, so no need to delay or anything like that!
Huge map??? hmm i never done this before but wouldnt large be big enough, isnt huge designed for like 18 players?

OK, after quite a bit of fumbling around I think I have it set up now.
Enter using Direct IP option
My IP (today anyway) is 24.209.160.202 Game pw is Origami Turn timer is 22 hours
You will see a display of Civ choices. Click on the Civ and Leader you picked. Enter your Civ pw when prompted.
I started Catherine. One thing that seemed odd is that the game continued after my first move. I'm hoping that was only because nobody else had joined yet.
I'm sure you'll let me know if there are any hangups.

Not working!
PM trieze hes set up loads before
EDIT::
lol this cant be a good thing, after you end turn there should be a little star next to your name, nothing more!
This is just like a normal MP sim game the only diffrance being each turn 22 hours rather then 1 minute!

My connection attempt is timing out. Is your firewall set to allow incoming packets on the necessary port(s)?

I'm timing out also & agree with Tony that the game moving on can't be a good thing From what I've seem everyone hosting their first pitboss game has a few problems getting it going, I'm really glad they make the effort though cos it's a great way to play the game when you can't play a lot online. Thanks to Whip for doing it.

timed out as well. what is exact game name maybe that make a difference.
Whip do you have wait to end turns unchecked that maybe would end your turn automatically if you are the only player in the game, with no civs claimed by human players yet.
