Just about everyone that has been on the ladder more than a week knows how to click on the “Unreported Match” link on the left menu of the Civ4players Myleague page, and fill out the form. But what happens after that is probably much less understood, so I’ll provide a step-by-step walk threw and emphasize the common issues along the way.
1. You submit an Unreported Match report; a copy goes to the alleged offender and to the current non-report Administrator (CanuckSoldier at the moment), One thing to note, if you are the alleged non-reporter Cases makes the email look like it comes from the Administrator, but it in fact came from the player. This is done so that all you have to do is hit “Reply” on your email program and explain your side of the story. But please don’t send some vulgar or rude email to the Admin thinking that you are emailing the other player. If you want to email the other player look up there email on the Myleague page using the Player Search and forward your comments to them. Being rude to the non-report admin is not a
good way to get your side heard. Players are, by the rules, suppose to report matches right away, but please don’t file non-reports until 24hrs has past, this is not to give players time they really don’t have, but to not waste the admins time on reports that are reported a bit later than they should be.
2. The non-report Admin files the non-reports after a quick look to see if there’s something out of the ordinary, and files any replies. At the 48hrs(2 day) mark for each report, the admin looks for any replies and/or checks the daily reports to see if the match has been reported. Several things can happen; the two most common are that the report has been made and the non-report gets filed as Actioned, second is that no report has been made and no reply refuting the report has been sent to the Admin, if this happens guilt is assumed automatically and the match is forced, depending on the number of reports a player has determines the punishment if any. Please note, the only replies we look at are if you hit the “reply” button on the non-report email. If you try to use the “Contact Administrator” link on the Myleague page, those emails go into a common mailbox and are checked every few days at random by the admin team, but the non-report admin does NOT check there to see if you replied by using that link. And therefore they will likely force a report on you and not find your reply until later.
3. If there is a reply and the two players do not agree then the Admin will ask both players for evidence in the way of screenshots, saves or testimony from other players in the game. The admin will then decide who is right, if there is no evidence provided either way then the report is voided.
4. The Admin team takes chronic non-reporters very seriously. Our policy right now is to give each player one free mistake, your second non-report gets you a “Bomb”, letting everyone know that you have problems conforming to the rules. The 3rd non-report will get you 7 days in the penalty box. Non-reports after that will get you more time in the box at the discretion of the admins, depending on the circumstances. But rest assured that if you continue non-reporting you will be kicked off the ladder sooner rather than later.
5. It is the responsibly of ALL ladder players to check the daily reports every 24hrs to see who is suspended, and if that person is yourself. It is illegal to continue to play games when suspended; game hosts and the players in the game should not let suspended players play games. Not only is it in the daily reports, but when you do a Player Search, and have the player stats displayed, if they have a negative “Days Idle” that means they are suspended for that many days. Example; if PlayerX has “-3.6 days” idle, he is still in the box for the next 3.6 days. Any non-reports are filed for players that should not be playing due to being suspended they are void and will not be processed. That player will most likely be put in the box even longer since they can’t follow simple rules.
6. The Admin team will show leniency for players if they get in trouble over non-reports, provided they email the admin team and state how they plan on obeying the rules from now on. They will then be put on probation for 90 days in which time any legitimate non-reports will see them suspended for a long time or simply kicked off the ladder.
As you can see, it’s not a complicated system, but it is the corner stone of keeping the ladder an honest place to play the best MP games to completion. If you have any questions about the non-report system feel free to email any of the admins.
