I wish you luck with this "tournament". I am not sure it really can be called a tournament, although invitational tournaments certainly do exist, you aren't really inviting people as much as accepting (or rejecting) players that happen to show up.
I believe this thread belongs in the non-ladder sanctioned events section. An interesting format (though quite elitist). Should make for a good game. I would have posted this several days before the event to give interested players a chance to sign up and make time to play.

8PST is 4am in England and 5 am in the rest of europe, so i guess its gonna be a all american affair (plus nero ;P).
But if this was at a sensible time, staurday 2-3pm-PST, then alot more players would be interested including myself.
But on a side note if i ever won this i wouldnt accept any payment!

You may also use this thread to reserve a spot in the tournament. I will accept pros in the order in which they repost and remember that this will be a normal ladder game, but I am just throwing in the $50 to make players think a little harder and push a little farther.

Yeah actually that time will be bad for most players, perhaps delay the game 12 hours so that it's 4pm in europe, 8am in the us. I'll still (try to) play even if it does end up being a midnight start for us aussies And yeah taking your money doesnt feel right, perhaps have ladder buck instead (worth much less but they are designed to be given away in tourneys).

Experts Only - If you Are not Pro in my Book you will be booted ;D lol I bet you actually have a book too! (can we see a copy) edit/after though: would I lose my ladder status as well as my amateur status for playing for money?

would I lose my ladder status as well as my amateur status for playing for money? In most sports, its not the fact that you are playing for money that takes away an amateur status, but how much money you have won. Since there has never been a cash prize for any civ tournament, then the winner of this event would lead the pack in cash prize money, and would be considered a professional.

Yes it did, but due to the length of the game we decided to finish the second half of the game at a later time. urrently all players have been defeated except "NotaGoodname, MissladyLuck, Pooky, and Myself"

Only pooky and myself showed up for the time set last time, I am going to set the continuation of this tournament for this friday at 8PM PST ( california tim.) Hoppefully everyone will be able to make it, regardless, I will continue the epic at that time and the game will be up at 8PM sharp. I will sit in the lobby with the game open for 20 Minutes and I will start with everyone there. Please verify ( NOTA, MLL, POOKY) if you can make this time or we need to hold it another time. This time was the original time the tournament was set, so I figure you all can make it.

if only pooky showed for the schedule game - he clearly wins and should be paid the prize
this is what happens with continual postponements
people lose interest.
pooky didn't - pay the man and show us all some credibility
