As i've been playing BTS I've noticed in most games that it is simply a buildfest. Get as many cities up as you can quickly then sit back and defend. Your only real chance to get a kill is to get one early.
I understand that they had to tone down cats a bit because they were way overpowered. I believe they are more fair now but making happiness and health as big of concerns as they are now has really put a damper on the game. Slaving is not nearly as useful as it used to be so now it's almost impossible to deal with having crappy land with no production. You used to be able to farm and slave for your production but now citizens get so unhappy and you have to keep enough units in the city just so they shut up that slaving is half of what it used to be.
Now the game is just build cities and wonders, then sit back and defend. The team that doesn't do this is pretty much screwed when about half to 2/3's turns are done and it's time to concede. Usually with no kills being made.
On top of this spies are way to powerful. It's so easy to see where your enemy is going to attack now and for a player to counter it.
Also, even though this was in Mookie's thread from a couple of months ago... Random shuffle teamers are a problem, for all the reasons mookie said. People rarely take the time to set up a good game anymore and this has really made the ladder less fun.

Everything you describe is an Anc Teamer and I agree with you to an extent.
Tech path ALWAYS = Bronzeworking, Animal Husbandry, then archery or wheel, or masonry if you have stone, wheel to hook the resources. After this its Iron Working, Poly or med, depending if one was taken, then priesthood. 1/4 of the game is done now and you have the option of Writing, Monarchy or HB. Smart person would take HB if there are two civs with horses and go Monarchy after. Others might go math to try to get better results from chopping and only the dense to bts now try to get cats before HB. Either or, you commit to one and the rest is simple.
Techs in Anc are predictable and boring now. Can't change em or make a new strategy to em. This doesn't include oracle either.
WW = Guy with stone or back guy building wonders if he has a solid front or good players to cover him.
See, why am I saying all this cause we all already know it right?
Thats kinda the point your making Rupman.
Don't work anything but food with your first worker unless you have to chop etc.
Its repetitive and its quite boring but some people like the familar becase they feel good at it Rup. Thats what gaming is all about I suppose.
The part I disagree with is defending. What are you defending from? See, to defend, there has to be an offence somewheres. A good team will kill with that offence, a bad team won't.
Sounds to me Rup likes its time to play Medi or Renny. Could have saved alot of post space and just got to my point but then you wouldn't have read all the great things I wrote:P

You both hit the nail on the head. Now, just pre-order World in Conflict and we'll be waiting for the both of you with open arms. The game is hardly perfect, but the game mechanics of WIC is solid enough that any gripes that I have are merely personal quibbles.
We're getting owned like hell in World in Conflict, but that's the best part of it. We can only improve and get better. Plus it doesn't hurt that there are cash rewards at the end of it all if we play our cards right.

LOL, How?
Cats are more expensive, they cant kill.
Charriots are more expansive
Slaving is harder
Spies tell you whats going on
Culture bombs are faster to get to, and early era games often have 2-3 bombs in them now.
What has changed to make attacking easier?

when Civ4 came out - "boring, it's a buildfest
when Warlords came out - "boring it's a buildfest
now BtS is out and just like the early days of C4 and WL, "BtS is a boring buildfest"
conclusion-jumping has become a hobby around here, lol!

I heard that threads like this finally started and I just wanted to drop by and say, "I feel your pain." I tried my best to explain this to the developers and single player oriented testers, but all they told me was that I was upset that my old strategies didn't work any more and that if I wanted to play an MP game I should buy World Of Warcraft.
And MMV, whoever said Warlords was a buildfest? Too funny. All it added were Trebuchets which were the ultimate city killers until their big price increase, and Great Generals which were razing cities like crazy until people caught on how to defend against Commandos.

Mookie... Hmmmmm I remember that name, you used to be on the ladder, right?
I'm truly sorry that your "suggestions and advice" weren't listened to by firaxis (or those folks over at SP)
But, the SP group DID have a slight advantage over you - that's the group that made most the mods and actually, through coding and programming, developed "the game" through their actions and thier written input in the form of actual game programming.
QAplayer: I have a suggestion and some advice
Dev/modplayer: I have a suggestion and have written a program that demonstrates the good and the bad
gaming company: Thanks for the suggestion and wowzaa REALLY thanks for your input devoping the game through game programming and sharing your files with us. Your work in this has been recognized by us GIVING you the title "game dev/mod" as long as you keep doing all the work for us for free.

1. For the first time ever I have actually been seeing every unit being used and all of them actually having a use for once in bts 2. Every single game I have played has been decided on kills and it definately possible to still kill 3. For once it actually takes some thought and intelligence to kill instead of alt queing catas 4. The good players are definately still better than mediocre ones and the playing field hasnt really been levelled
....Bts is a good expansion (with a few things needed to be fixed). If you don't like it please dont go posting all this stuff in forums. We dont care and all u do is make people who do want to play it have a tougher time of finding people to play with. Thanks

Thanks I was going to applause. At least it is the first optimistic opinion I've found about BtS. These guys only complain about the fact that there is no way to use 20-75% power advantage. I agree it is sad, because good players are not similarly to high-lvl AI, they dont have 50% production bonus. It is defence oriented game now. I also wish and hope that they will fix something about it in patck p.s: I would like to hear "BtS is noobfest, and pathetic players allways win here"

ROFL, I played a game with rupman the other day. He insisted on being shaka. All i can say is rupman's opinion doesn't matter. Especially when you only build 20 impi in a 100 turn anc tbg game. If you want to say that I had 100 wc and didn't kill, it's because the other team had 100 impi. GG RUPMAN

I have found there to be a load of killing and city razing in BTS.
I have seen multiple ways of taking cities and new strats implemented.
I have enjoyed my time with BTS thus far and project the fun to continue.
I have noticed that some players have not been around. I have no idea if it is due to lack of foresight, the inability to adapt or personal reasons. For some of the players I have not seen I am pleased, others are indeed missed.
Adapt and overcome, I know it is not as easy as slave and conqueor...

So who the heck are you to be talking crap like this? can we say magnetic personality? can we say sparkling attitude? can we say that perhaps this is the same attitude of personal charm that the mature professionals at firaxis and mature devs in single player saw in him that made him SO effective in the very things he complains about? if it SHOWS here - as fried discovered, it shows EVERYWHERE "But they JUST wouldn't listen to me!"Go figger'

I don't know which is worse, the noob that posts about a game he pretends to play, or the leet coming back to bash a game he can choose to play or not to play. They both are annoying imho.
