Shut down? What's that supposed to mean? As far as us getting reacquainted Canuk, I don't remember you. Did we play civ2 together? We did, EoN, you don't remember clan Sayen with Moker and OzzyKP et la? I'm hurt now CS

LOL Oh my god now I remember. I used to destroy you and the rest of that little tribe on the ladder all the time. Those were some really easy points. HA!! Wow, I remember now. I guess I'll have to repeat the same thing in civ4.

I'm looking at the civ3 ladder and i notice a disturbing trend...your top players have tons of losses. When I played on the ladder for civ2, I think I might have like maybe 5 total? I always had 10 times as many wins as I did losses or even more. Why is this?

Team games are very popular; if you lose in a team game, you report to everyone on the opposite team. This has the effect of greatly multiplying wins and losses. Also, many of the current cadre of top-ranks learned the ropes at the hands of elite players who no longer play enough to be top-ranked; thus they tend to have a lot of losses from the "Learning curve" period. By the by... be careful about talking TOO much smack before you get comfortable. Tends to paint a target on you. Enjoy the community!

I've had a target painted on me for the last 6 years, I'm not worried. I'm fully confident that I can find a way to beat everyone within a month. I can't imagine any serious player playing a team game for ladder?? That seems really silly. When I played everything was 1 on 1, team games add too much luck to the picture. I guess that would also explain the huge amounts of games played on here.

Actually you should do a team ladder separate from your 1 on 1 ladder. Then you can get clans involved more that way and your 1 on 1 ladder will not be skewed so much. In civ2 we had something called tribes where teams would play against each other for ranking. Our tribe was the divine tribe, and we went through civ2 undefeated.

I also don't like the way that the number 1 player can be number 1 but have way more losses than wins. Doesn't make much sense to me. I remember that same problem back when I played checkers on cases ladder back in 1996 when I was 13 years old. hard to believe cases is 10 years old now. When I played civ2 it was different. Ranking was based on point totals so the top players always had better win-loss ratios than the lower players. However we didn't have all the bells and whistles of cases ladder. It's too bad you can't combine the two.
Btw did you play civ2 MP friederich?

Whew.... haven't seen a new guy strut that much in awhile. S'okay, you'll either be the first one to upset all the cookie jars or one of many who learned the taste of humble pie. I wish you luck, either way. Many players enjoy team games, and it's important to realize that the longer a ladder has been in existence, the more skewed the stats will get as great players wander off, etc. Most folks who enjoy team games point to the more advanced tactics and manuevers available with teamwork and careful planning. It's an acquired taste; most folks do acquire it over time though. As for my own history, I started playing with Civ3PTW. Had a great time ever since. A small request though - please try and keep everything in one post rather than three; helps those who are subscribed to particular threads.

Things come to me as I hit submit and I forget to edit posts. And I guess you don't know who I am but I was god of civilization 2 MP. I don't think you guys have players on here that were so far above everyone else like I was. I went 3 years playing ladder games and I lost less than 20 games in ladder play total. The way people played civ2 was the way that I created. Even today people still use the strategies I created. I can strut my stuff because I can back up what I do. I don't know if you played civ2Mp or not but everyone knows who I am who played that game.
Oh, and don't call me new because I'm about as old school as it gets. I was playing MP back in 1999 and I've been playing civ since 1992.

Go ask MarkG or Thunderfall who I am. Ask anyone who is familiar with civ2Mp who I am they know. My strategies are in the civfanatics sun tzu war academy. I defined who Civ2 was played for the entire duration. Even within the past couple of years I changed everyone from using Monarchy with a knight rush to using Republic and racing for SOL to change to communism thus negating the riot factor and allowing you to build 50 cities in the span of about 10-20 turns. Explorer rushing, horse rushing, expansion, tricks, tons of the MP bugs, all created by me. You say you started in Civ3 PTW, that's a LONG time after I came around. If anyone is the new guy it's you. I was around in civ before even CanukSoldier was.

.... I'm really not sure quite why you're getting so agitated. In this community, you're new. I wasn't suggesting you were new outside of it. Easy there, chum. We're all friendly around here.

hehehe Because I have a 6 year old reputation to maintain and I've spent a long time at the top and I don't like being out of date. I will quit this game if I don't become top again.

EoN.....this is not Civ2MGE...you'd better evolve some...Civ4players is for the entire Civ MP community not just you. Team games are as popular if not more than duels, if you limit yourself to just 1v1's you will be missing a huge part of the fun aroung here, but to each his own CS

I will play team games on the ladder, if only because it is the only way I can compete. Me, Kaak, Markusf if he plays, we will dominate as the divine tribe.

I hate to tell you but you became "out of date" the minute you decided not to play Play the World. You are trying to ride on a extinct 6 year old rep, that no one but me remembers. Time to make a new Rep in the world of CIV. EoN. CS

Not quite, I played civ3 some, I just didn't find it any different than civ2 once you took out some of the bullnuts like extreme corruption and a ridiculous combat system. I have every intention of reviving the EyesOfNight name, assuming that the game has the capability of allowing me to crush people like I did in civ2. If the game brings everyone down to 1 level and has too few options in it like civ3 did then I won't be playing it anyway. I'm still god.

I still have Kaak on ICQ...he never played PTW or C3C either, real life issues I believe...but good luck with your "clan". The Knights of Civilization will be glad to meet you on the battlefield. As will any of the 13 other current clans I'm sure. We have this major clan competition....the CCC, once every 6 weeks. Nothing we had in Civleague back then even comes close. Feel free to enjoy it EoN. CS

Kaak didn't play civ3 because he thought it was a piece of nuts just like me. lol In fact, he thinks civ4 will be horrible and not worth playing but I'm trying to get him to try it out.

CIV is rift with strategy options, there is no "right" way to play any one game. You may very well rise to the top if you want that, but it will be a fight to get there and a bigger fight to stay. CS
