I hate too much democracy...im a super diplomat and a master cton- ... person! Quick question: How can be a super diplomat while hating democracy? You mean you're good at negotiating in the game but you hate talking about the game beforehand, right? Well, if you hate democracy, I've always wanted to be a dictator...oh, yeah, I forgot. That's the reason why we're all here. ;D

Also, if we're gonna use Warlords, we all have to have it for it to work. Warlords is not a game patch. They are 2 distinct .exe files. I either host a "vanilla" civ4 game or a Warlords game. So now is the time to reconsider your civ/leader choices in light of the changes to existing game traits and additions of new civs and leaders. Don't listen to the websites, some of them give false info. One said there were only two new traits. There are in fact three. I purchased the game last night: Protective: Archery and Gunpowder units start with Drill 1 and City Garrison 1. Double production for walls and castles. Charismatic: +1 happiness in all cities. +1 from monuments (new building replaces obelisk) and broadcast towers. Imperialistic: +100% Great General emergence. +50% production of settlers. You can go tell me to put this in reviews, but I anticipate that Imperialistic will give fast builders an edge in the early game. It's what expansive should have been, because Ceasar has it instead of expansive. Get the game for the specific trait combonations. Some of the old ones have been nerfed.

Great news, everyone. Warlords has introduced the "anonymous play" option that will allow more FFAs throughout the community. You discover who you are playing against only after you win...or die trying! In that case we will definitely use Warlords and at this moment all civs promised to players are cancelled. You will now choose your civ/leader not on this board but during startup. In fact contrary to my earlier posts, don't reveal you intentions to use a certain civ/leader. Just post here when you have purchased Warlords and we'll start the game. To sum up:
1. As this is probably our first PitBoss Warlords game, it will be a non-ladder game, anyway.
2. We'll start as soon as the players who have posted have purchased Warlords.
3. This will be an FFA game with the new "anonymous players" option.

I'd love to give it a try when I get warlords. I would only play if it is a ladder game. For an epic game I think FFA is the only way to go. If I'm in the mood for a cton bruiser ill just play the regular games.
If barbs are there I would prefer the lower level.
So basically everyone has to move every 24 hours? Is that the turn clock?
In most game I play I prefer random civs.
And host would have to be completely committed to leaving computer on all the time.

I have only advertised in this thread and this one in the general board: civ4players.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1153770179In my other posts the topic just happens to be appropriate to the conversation. The game I'm hosting is a topic related to civ 4 and I am not selling anything. Moreover, I only posted once in each thread with the link. Style is a matter of opinion. I didn't see any other PitBoss games in this section being put together recently, so I was wondering how they were forming. I gotta get the word out there. As a matter of fact, if you have looked at all my posts, that indicates you're interested in the topic as well. You'd be a perfect candidate to join our game. ;D

We're doing a non-ladder game just for the first time to try out this new game style (FFA, Warlords, and PitBoss together). Please give it a try. Don't worry, you'll still have plenty of time to play ladder games in-between turns. The game speed will be normal, unless anyone has any objections with regular barbs (some players want raging barbs, others want none, so we'll compromise). When it becomes your turn, you will have 24 hours that the server is on to make your move. Don't be thrown by this figure, the game will still move, just a little slower. I tried to start this up with regular players in the lobby and when they found this little fact they fled as if from the plague because what they envision is one move total being made per day. That's not the case. Another unique aspect of the PitBoss is that I have the ability to kick players after the game has started. Since we're using the new feature called, "anonymous play" I will not dictate what civs each player will use, random or not. If you want to use a random civ, that's totally up to you. Nobody will know who's whom. Because of the location of everybody, my computer has to be and will be dedicated 24/7 to this game, barring hurricanes and other electrical storms which are beyond my control (I live in Florida, USA).

Players can play FFA games if they want - as long as players agree unanimously, any game rules can be chosen.
But let me tell you a few other reasons that CTON style games evolved in preference to FFA games.
1) Rank mongering has already been mentioned. People tended to gang up on the highest ranked player regardless of whether that person was a threat in the individual game. CTONs minimize such "gangbangs".
2) A lot of people become upset with being back-stabbed (ie one partner betraying the alliance). FFA alliances can't be trusted - and our rules/and the game allow backstabs (unless its a Team locked alliance). I have seen friendships ruined over backstabs. It could cause a lot of animosity.
3) Some people didn't like being put in the position when you first meet someone (often in early game) of having to decide friend or foe, before the map is even revealed.
4) Diplomacy (via chat) tends to slow the game down. More typing. More trading techs back and forth, etc.
While the new "anonymous" feature might address the first concern, it doesn't really address the other three.
I encourage people to try different game rulesets, formats, etc. Experiment. But I wanted to just pass along a little history of why FFA games which were very common in the early days of the CIV3 ladder fell out of favor.
Best, SPM

I just have to say that seems like a really odd post. I mean, it's not aggressively negative, but it's like an FFA bit you once and now you're kinda out to get it, SPM.
Anyway, I'm up for this. I'd like to sign up with Huayna Capac if he's available (but I don't really care.)

It's an honor and a privlige to have you join our game, too. That's a total of eight confirmed players, including myself. Still waiting for rupman and Necrom666 to confirm. Like I said above, I will no longer (and cannot) be reserving civs because "anonymous play" is activated. In fact, just to throw us off, you might want to choose a different civ now. Do you have Warlords, yet?

When you decide to make it a ladder game, email me. A non ladder game with raging barbs would be a joke, imo. We need all serious ladder players for this to have any chance to work.

Necrom666, your email addy is hidden in your profile. I will now expose my noobness. What does IMO mean? First off, we will not be using raging barbs. Only regular barbs. If you look earlier in the thread, stin requested a non-ladder game. It's free to join the ladder and there is no approval process to join. On the other hand, the only incentive to being a ladder member is the ranking system, which the majority consensus of ladderites believe is inaccurate, to say the least. That said, as I am a bona fide "ladderite", it makes no difference to me. On this issue I want what the majority wants. If you want we can make this an official epic game which I will also post in that section. An epic game is not epic speed but rather a name for a game style that allows multiple scoring opportunities at: 2000BC, 500BC, 500AD, 1000AD, 1500AD, 1800AD, 1900AD, 1950AD, 2000AD, and 2050AD. Everyone email me your thoughts. My email is available in my profile. Also, email me when you have Warlords and let's get this game going. This game is still in it's infancy, WarningU2. As far as I know, I am the only one in this thread who has Warlords yet. There is definitely time for you to join. Like I said above, just email me when you have it. Thx.

I have warlords and would like to play. But again i stress only if ladder with about 5 scoring breaks in the game.
And I would vote for no barbs. But not a deal breaker of course. Barbs suck.[glow=red,2,300]I.M.O.[/glow] (three words). first word-- you go.......the hole
Oh and I hate to sound like a diva here but there is one other thing that would have to happen. there would have to be a 24 hour turn timer. I don't want someone going on vacation and messing up the game for all and wasting every ones time. If someone is going on vacation for a few days he can program some moves in and take his chances.

Congrats on being the first to post that you have Warlords. I hate to prioritize the first to get Warlords over the first to post here wanting to play, but since that makes just two of us ladder players, it will be a ladder game unless the majority of serious players give me a good reason why this first game would affect their score negatively. Nobody really takes the score system that seriously (I hope), so this will be an "official" ladder game. I am also going to start a thread in the epic games section, as per the rules. The number of scoring breaks (ten) I got from the official rules. Five sounds fine to me. Just tell me what years they will be at. Now, I was one of the people who wanted raging barbs. I use it in single player all the time. But I'm willing to negotiate if you agree to the other settings recommended not be used in the epic game rules under Game-Specific rules section 26-11. Plus I want "require complete kills". Also, I'm just curious but what is your experience with the "fractal" map? I think I already covered that there will be the usual 24-hour turn timer. I will need your email addy however as the game begins for host-like things. You can email it to me. As Necrom pointed out guys, this game will require a serious commitment by everyone to play a few turns every day for several consecutive days to keep the game moving and interesting. Don't worry, Necrom, you're not the only one who sounds like a diva when stating what settings you want (just look at some of my posts in other threads, lol). I appreciate your honesty and encourage you guys to communicate exactly what you want, which avoids players quitting as a result of misunderstandings, not that the esteemed members of this august body would do such a heinous thing. I need another clue what I.M.O. means. I take it there's censored material in there so please email it to me at: kingpeterf@comcast.net.

IMO stands for "I'm a Mature Orangutan"
If you have any trouble with any other chat meaning im here to help!
I have walords too, and yeah would require a 24 hour turn limit for sure, 48 max!
Barbs do suck! They have no place in MP!
